US Post Office

It seems kind of weird to be writing a review for a post office because, well, it’s a post office. Aren’t they all the same, with hugely long lines and bitter, surly employees who are living testaments to how the phrase «going postal» came into being? I’ve only had experiences with one other post office in the ‘Burgh (Squirrel Hill), and every time I needed to go there I would have to mentally psych myself up for the undoubtedly horrific experience that awaited me (and horrific it always was indeed).
Then I moved away from Squirrel Hill. And my friends, I learned something very interesting. It turns out that not all post offices are created equal. Shame on me for being such a judgy judgerson.
This sleepy little post office is pretty much the polar opposite of every terrible postal experience I’ve ever had. The building is small and unassuming — if you don’t look closely enough for the American flag and tiny letters on the building saying «United States Post Office», you might miss it. It has one counter and rarely is there ever a line. The one time that there was a line (of a whole two people), it moved quickly because the guy at the counter was COMPETENT and EFFICIENT! Imagine that. It’s always the same guy who is there, and he’s pleasant enough and quite helpful. Plus he looks like the love child of Jim Gaffigan and the guy who plays Mike on Veep, so that’s fun.
Easy in, easy out. Sharpsburg really isn’t all that far from much of the East End, and I only wish that I had discovered this alternative when I lived in Squirrel Hill. It would’ve been worth the drive to spare me from all of the headaches I got dealing with those clowns over there. But dare I say I even look forward to mailing packages now?! Who would’ve thought?
