Let me start off by saying that i am not typically one to visit a franchise spa… that said. I received a gift card, and also not being one to turn down a free service– I chose the Massage Envy in Mt.Lebanon. I am very familiar with several spas in the Mt. Lebanon area.facials happen to be one of my guilty pleasures… but I have never considered Massage Envy. From the very beginning I was surprised and thoroughly impressed. The spa was immaculate and very chic, and the staff very professional and welcoming. Despite being known for«massage» I chose an Anti-Aging facial. It was one of the best I’ve ever had. My Esthetician– Tasha was extremely knowledgeable, and informed me about every product she utilized and the benefits of each. She incorporated massage throughout the facial… and had a great touch. Most importantly I left feeling sooo relaxed and my skin glowing. I ended up buying Murad products(Invisablur– LOVEIT!!) My surprise came at the very end… when I realized the financial benefits of becoming a member. To be honest I wasn’t crazy about the sales process at the end… but they weren’t pushy… once explained I couldn’t pass it up. To top it all off they even validated my parking– unheard of in downtown Mt.Lebo. Thank you for an excellent experience! I can’t wait to get a massage next!

recently tried massage envy for the first time ever. they are everywhere, so i hoped they could provide a convenient solution for me. to start with the positive, the facility is lovely and the reception staff were very friendly. the actual massage was great as well. heres where it all went wrong: i generally try to keep pretty quiet during a massage so i can breathe & relax. since this was a first try there was more conversation than usual. sadly the therapist ended up telling me way too much about their personal life, including that they were essentially brand new to the field and totally inexperienced. this made me worry about whether or not they knew what they were doing so i couldnt relax. the topper was that they then went on to say that this was only a temporary job until they could start their own business because the salon didnt even pay them half of what the clients are charged. whether this is true or not is immaterial. there were also a number of references to the fact that most people cant afford the services, which made me feel guilty about being there and obligated to leave a large tip. i dont want to feel guilty about a service i rarely get to indulge in. i will stick to the higher end salons with the professionals. its not worth the savings.

I’ve had back pain as long as I can remember. The last massage I had a few years ago was just terrible and I was kind of put off from the whole experience for awhile. I’ve been seeing Trent at the Mt Lebanon location for a few months now, and he is honestly a godsend. He approaches the massage treatment in a very clinical, ‘let’s work towards finding a solution and not just mask the problem’ approach which I really appreciate. My back has never felt better. The location is clean, and everyone I’ve encountered there is very friendly and knowledgable. Trent is awesome. Very respectful, professional and extremely knowledgable on just about everything having to do with the human body. Highly recommend.

I just moved to the area and totally messed up my shoulder during the move because I seem to think I’m a 6 ft. male weight lifter instead of a 5’2″ female with a desk job. I was having shooting pain by the end of every day, and i knew I’d need to get a massage pronto. This Massage Envy location is a convenient 5 minute walk from my house. While there are some horror stories on Consumer Reports about the franchise’s membership program, I decided I’d rather go there then chance the Asian massage parlors further away, which only seem to be mentioned online in sketchy forums where creepy guys lament the lack of a «happy ending» at the places. *shudder* I called Massage Envy late in the day, around noon, and they were able to fit me at 4 p.m. the same day. When I showed up, it was pretty busy, with several other people in the waiting room and a few others exiting, so I was surprised there weren’t any reviews yet about this location on Unilocal.I walked up to the front counter to sign in, and the woman there didn’t just introduce herself, she gave me a handshake, which I found very classy. Actually, the whole place was very classy, clean and professional. I filled out my intro form in about 3 minutes and then they led me to the darkened back waiting area, which as the website says is designed to «relax» you and get you ready for the massage. My masseuse Maggie showed up almost immediately and we walked back to a room, where she and I talked about why I was there and what I might need. She suggested a trigger point massage to take care of my shooting pain, and the whole experience felt very similar to when you go and get a haircut — the assessment was very nice because I felt like she was really imparting her expertise and finding out what my needs were. Maggie was wonderful and gave an excellent massage. The focused part at the beginning involved a lot of working together to ensure my knots were loosening, and she communicated really well with me. it was like having your own personal physical therapist work with you. Then the general massage started and I was kneaded into oblivion. I kept wanting to give her compliments during the massage, but as both my muscles and my vocal cords had turned to mush, I was unable to speak. At the end, she brought me water and an assessment booklet that outlined what we had done that day, and even demonstrated some exercises I can do on certain muscles to keep them from tensing up too much. It was a great experience. Let’s be clear that a standard 1 hour massage is technically a 50 to 55-minute massage, because there is downtime at the beginning for the assessment and at the end for the post-massage relaxation period. It’s totally logical and makes sense in a business where the employees are working with their hands for hours on end. Also, I wouldn’t want them to be jamming me into a 1 hr. session and then hurrying me right back out of the room at the end to make time for the next person booked on the hour. It would be terrible. I read extensive reviews online before booking my appointment, and this was sometimes a complaint I read. But I felt like I was getting a full hour with the masseuse, so just because she wasn’t touching my body every second during the hour doesn’t mean it wasn’t quality time. As for the much-belabored membership program, the girl behind the desk at checkout asked me if I’d like to join and politely explained it to me. While I didn’t sign up, I did not find her to be pushy and I appreciated that my masseuse and I could stick to talking about my needs and not worry about things like money or programs. All in all, the system ran like a well-oiled machine, and I know exactly what I will be asking for this Christmas. More massages!
