Just had Lasik eye surgery. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Dr. Rom was very quick and precise. The procedure didn’t take long at all and my eye sight started to go back to normal almost instantly. The next day it was completely fine! Well worth the money! Here’s to a lifetime without glasses. This place gets 10 stars in my opinion.

I had my surgery in the summer of 2010 at the McKnight location. I was nervous as anybody would be before a procedure. I looked into another center in Pittsburgh but they required that I got an eye exam from another optometrist days before they would perform the procedure. This didn’t work with my schedule and they would not return my calls. I was fed up so I thought I would give Dr. Rom a chance since he had performed the second most operations in the area. The staff was very friendly. They performed all of the pre-​op exams on site and in one visit. They had me use Restasis (to increase tear production) the week leading up to the surgery and I couldn’t wear contacts for a short time as well. Some friends told me that I would have to go without contacts for months but neither location said I would have to go more than a week or so without contacts. You must have someone drive you home after the surgery. They offered me a Tylenol PM to help me sleep after the operation. They explained the entire process and said that when the laser is doing it’s thing I would see a green light, then a red light, and then smell something burning. Like getting a tooth drilled or burning hair. I was glad they gave me the warning because I might have freaked out if I wasn’t expecting that. I like that you can see the operations being performed. It creates trust between the patient and the doctor and the biggest fear people have is the unknown. They can’t hide a mistake when they are within few of anybody in the lobby. Dr. Rom did a quick exam and then administered numbing drops in my eyes. They use one laser to cut the flap. It has a suctions cup which causes you to lose vision in the eye that it’s attached to but it only lasts for a few seconds. They do this to both eyes, then guide you to a chair next to the first where they do the corrective part of the procedure. It lasted about 10 seconds per eye and the machine does all of the work. Even if you were to freak out and look around the machine will follow your eye so there is a minimal chance of a mistake. As they had described I was able to see the clock across the room but i was blurry like trying to open my eyes under water. Blurry but not fuzzy like it was before. I had a friend drive me home and I went straight to bed. I woke up once and my eyes did burn but it wasn’t too bad. They were very watery and I just went back to sleep. After a few hours I woke up and my eyes were fine and my vision was better than I had ever experienced. I didn’t like having to wear protective glasses to bed. You only have to do that for a week but I like to sleep on my stomach so I was happy when i was done with that. During my 1 day follow up my vision was ²⁰⁄₂₀ and at my 1 week follow up they said that I had ²⁰⁄₁₀ vision. It’s been over 5 years and it was one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I see better than I ever did with contacts or glasses. I had astigmatism and I would get headaches if I wore my glasses all day. They were almost half he price of other centers and they take 10% if you have any vision insurance. They do the operations 1 or 2 days a week so they have about 30 people come in at staggered times all throughout the day. They could probably knock out about 4 – 6 per hour so there is very little wait time and you are in and out. I would recommend the procedure to anybody that can afford it. Especially, if you are young and active. I would also highly recommend Dr. Rom and LasikPlus. The staff was very friendly, told me what to expect during each step, and the whole process was hassle free. Like I said at the beginning, I had my operation over 5 years ago. Some of the details may be off such as how long you have to use eye drops or the protective glasses. Plus technology changes all the time. The basic process should be similar and I wanted to write a review from somebody who has been able to enjoy the results for a while.

I just had my surgery last week and I still cant get over how amazing the results are! Although my eyes were not terrible (–3.00) Dr. Rom was able to give me near ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision! The staff at LasikPlus is very friendly and take care of your appointment on time unlike any other doctors office. Everything about the procedure is well explained and they will answer any questions you may have. The procedure only took 10 minutes and that’s exactly what Dr. Rom said it would take. I would recommend Lasik to anyone thinking about doing it!

I had my LASIK surgery done in March 2011. It is one of the best things I have ever done. I was wearing –7.5 and –6.75 prescription contact lenses. I had my consultation on a Monday and was booked for the surgery on that Friday. I was told to arrive at 8AM. I also had to wear my glasses in the days leading up to LASIK. Honestly, this was the worst part! Glasses give me headaches for some reason, and it was a LONG few days. Day of the surgery I arrive at 8am, and so did about 20 other people. It’s first come first serve! I was not expecting that. Had I known, I’d have been there at 7:30. I would have preferred appointment time slots. The procedure is done in a glass enclosure room so everyone can see you. Talk about anxiety while you wait! First you get your cornea cut and have to walk to the laser station. You won’t be able to see well on this short walk. The actual LASIK procedure took 17 seconds in my stronger eye and 19 in my weaker eye. I could see better immediately although not clearly. On the ride home, my numbing drops wore off and the not so fun part arrived. Pain, scratching, watering, uncomfortable eyes for the next 4 hours. You are supposed to go home and sleep, but I am not a napper, so I laid in bed in misery for about 4 hours. I couldn’t fall asleep for the life of me and I hadn’t slept much the night before. I was a watery, snotty mess (snot from watery eyes, it was never ending) At the 4 hour mark I suddenly felt like I could open my eyes and I could see! The next morning I read the ²⁰⁄₂₀ line at my post op. Recovery was pretty simple, you will get sick of eye drops though. Literally, you will taste them by the end of the week. All in all I recommend, but gave 4 stars due to the «publicness» of the surgery.

LASIK Plus was a great place to get my Lasik surgery. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The procedure was short and done very adeptly by Dr. Rom. The pre-​operative and post-​operative care/​instructions were impeccable and easy to understand. They only lost a star because they told me that I would be given a medication to help me relax during the surgery, like Valium. I was a nervous wreck about people touching my eyes and the procedure itself, which I verbalized on multiple occasions to the staff. The medication they gave for the procedure: Tylenol PM. FAIL. Did not settle me at all for the procedure. Actually made me worse, because then I was an anxious mess and fighting the Tylenol PM. Disaster. Otherwise, it was a pretty good experience.
