I live very close to Brother Tom’s and was very excited to see a bakery open in Sharpsburg. Brother Tom’s has several good qualities and much room for improvements. I have eaten many baked goods over the years and know what good quality is. PROS: The only bakery items that I will buy again at Brother Tom’s are the donuts and the cinnamon rolls. My favorite donut at this bakery is the cake donut with white buttercream frosting. The fudge frosting is good too. The cinnamon rolls are flaky, sweet and delightful with delicious white buttercream frosting. The frozen pierogies are very good. The dough is thin and not bulky. The fillings are pleasant. Warning: The sour cream pierogies are sweet which not everyone likes. I enjoy the sweet sour cream filling; but my husband does not. This is not a negative for Brother Tom’s — it’s just a personal preference. The frozen soups generally are good, reasonably priced, and a nice option to have at home for a quick meal to heat-up in minutes! Brother Tom’s offers a small selection of deli meats which is convenient to have in Sharpsburg. Deli prices are reasonable. Also offered are a small selection of milk and bottled juices and tea. A friend has told me that the homemade bread is good. I will try the bread soon. CONS: The breakfast is OK; I wouldn’t order it again because the bacon is cheap quality and the entire plate is greasy which is not my preference. Most of the baked goods are not visually-appealing and are not tasty. As I said above, the white buttercream frosting is delicious; however Brother Tom’s using a different white icing in most of the pastries. This other white icing has an undesirable texture of too much Crisco and fake ingredients. I have tried many chocolate chip cookies over the years and Brother Tom’s chocolate chip cookies were not good at all. Another downside is they only sell cookies in bags of a dozen. I would prefer being able to buy one cookie to try instead of being married to an entire dozen of a cookie that I may not like. I don’t know who buys and returns to buy most of these pastries. OVERALL: I hope that Brother Tom’s reconsiders how to prepare many of the pastries; otherwise I’m afraid this restaurant /bakery won’t last the long-run in Sharpsburg — a small town that could really use a good business.

Came back for breakfast. If you want a good, simple diner breakfast(eggs/toast/bacon and coffee) this is the place for you. They also have frozen pierogies for sale, so I’ll have to come back for those. The employees are great. All around I’m glad that Sharpsburg has Brother Tom’s Bakery.

Yesterday, I stopped in to buy an Italian hoagie. We were thinking of getting these for a picnic that was planned over the weekend. The hoagie was $ 5.50 and had ham, hot ham, BOLOGNA, salami and provolone cheese on it. I asked the clerk where the tomato and lettuce was and he said I could purchase some for $ 1.00EXTRA. Have you ever had an Italian hoagie without lettuce and tomato and what makes those condiments so expensive? Well, that is the last time you will see me in that bakery. We have had breakfast there and it was just OK. The bakery goods are not good except the brownies and they are not eye pleasing at all like Oakmont Bakery. It is a shame because the building is very nice and clean, but the management has no idea to run a restaurant or a bakery. Good luck Brother Tom!

Breakfast is always good with lots of food for a small price compared to so many other places. Also good bakery.

Brother Tom’s serves breakfast and lunch, in addition to selling a small assortment of baked goods. This review is only for the bakery. I popped in here on a whim to buy a birthday cake last minute and was pleased overall with my purchase and the service. There were only three small cakes from which to choose, and I bought the vanilla batter-raspberry swirl cake with buttercream icing. The cake was very moist and tasty, but the icing was super sugary and kind of crisp.(I prefer a smooth and creamy icing, but it wasn’t the end of the world.) I also tried a cookie and a ladylock. Both were good, but not memorable. On display, there were several different types of doughnuts, a few varieties of cookies, and some random sweets for sale. I was pretty disappointed in the selection, but it could be because the bakery just opened a couple months ago. I’ll probably try this place again in the spring.
