I heard about the Swetts, who own Antiques of Shadyside, from a friend who said they had the best prices in town for both buying and selling. Could not have been more true. They have a fabulous selection of high-end antique watches and rings, all very reasonably priced. And they are also incredibly nice people — they take the time to explain everything to you, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I insisted my whole life, up until the day I got engaged, that I would never get married. My wife felt exactly the same, so there we were, a couple of people who had no idea what we were doing, trying to figure out all the details of a wedding. Neither of us knew anything about jewelry, and we had decided to elope so we were pretty much on our own to figure it out. It was intimidating to say the least, and with the added fear that we might encounter some homophobia in the ring shopping process, I dreaded it. Antiques of Shadyside was the very first jewelry store we walked into, simply picked for the fact that there was an adorable neon diamond out front and the one thing we did know was that we wanted antique rings. The owners, a married couple, were both there and instantly put us at ease. Both were helpful in educating us on all the decisions we had to make about what we each wanted in a ring, and showed us numerous rings behind the glass case and pulled out boxes of more from the back. They didn’t bat an eye at a couple of ladies marrying each other. Quite the opposite, they were very welcoming and treated us like friends, pulling out photos of their adorable grandson to share with us. We must have been there over an hour, and in that time my wife fell in love with a ring. We left the store without it, thinking it was ridiculous to buy a ring at the first place we walked into, but only drove down the street before realizing it was just right and turning back. We then spent months looking for my ring in over a dozen other stores in different cities. Once I had a better idea what I wanted, we came back to Antiques of Shadyside and they pulled out even more boxes of rings from the back until I found my ring. Of all the stores we visited, nobody was anywhere near as kind and helpful, and nobody had as good a selection of antiques or such fair prices. And in all the time we spent there, we never once felt pressured to buy. I probably couldn’t recommend anyone more highly.
