The absolute best pizza that I have had in North Carolina! Perfect amount of ingredients, crust was not to thin, not to thick. I had the Italian Scallion… delish. Also, always a fantastic salad. I get the Garden Salad. The ingredients are always fresh, quality and there are plenty of them. Lastly, LOVE the soup!!! Very few places actually serve soup that taste homemade and just leaves you feeling all warm and satisfied. well this little spot never disappoints on their soup. I have the Roasted Vegetable soup, Chicken soup and chilli… all fantastic really! Thanks MOD!

Really 2 ½ stars, but I’ll round up… Tonight was our first experience with The Mod. We ordered a take-out Italian Scallion, with sausage as an extra topping. With tax, the 12 inch pizza was $ 14.95, which, as it turned out, was not a good value. The pizza had a good amount of cheese and capicolla, but the sausage for which we paid extra was almost MIA – a few crumbles, maybe an ounce at the very most. Also all but MIA were the scallions – we searched, and found only a half-dozen green flecks on the pizza – if the scallions aren’t present, it’s just an «Italian» pizza. Despite the foregoing, the toppings tasted good. The crust was another matter; it was properly cooked, not burned as are many wood fired pizzas, but the crust was really quite tough, and that ruined an otherwise decent pizza. So, the pizza was just OK – nothing great, somewhat over-priced for what we got, and nothing to bring me back. I make better pizza at home.

Pizzas are generally good and the salads are fresh but service is typically pretty poor. I’ve been frequenting this place for a couple of years and it’s consistently slow service. The owner Tim has always had a reputation for arrogance and lack of customer service but tonight I got to experience it first hand. He knows me and my husband and never acknowledges me when I am there. I’ve ignored that. Tonight I got charged $ 2.00 for extra dressing. When I questioned it, it became apparent that they charged us double instead of just one and when I expressed my outrage to the waitress for being charged an upcharge of $ 1.00 for what tasted like a bottled dressing, the owner came out and pointed out that it states on the menu that there’s an upcharge for the dressing. I wasn’t going to get into it with him and I actually now regret that but how desperate can you be to charge a customer $ 1.00 for a tiny bit of dressing? Other restaurants typically don’t charge for that but if they do, it’s rarely more than .25 or .50. And if you raise that as an issue, for the owner to argue the point that it’s written on the menu is not only lame but appears a bit desperate. The place is notorious for bad service and I’ve experienced first hand but I’ve always overlooked it because I wasn’t particularly in a rush. The owner’s attitude is notorious in this town and now I understand why. I will not be back there again and that’s too bad because it’s convenient and close to my house. He can charge someone else for extra dressing if he wishes, but while I don’t mind paying for quality food, I will not be insulted in this manner.

Noisy. Slow service. Mediocre food. Overpriced. Might go back when I can sit outside in nice weather and have tons of time to kill and some money to burn. The modern-ish architecture, sparse décor, and sterile atmosphere seem out of place in Pittsboro.

As others have stated its a good meal most of the time. Everything I have eaten to date has been fresh and well done. Only constructive feedback I would share would be that service does tend to be hit or miss and prices are somewhat on the high side for what you get. $ 6-$ 7 for a pint of beer? Ouch.

My wife love going here when our kid is down at the grandparents! It’s like another date night type with good folks. Unlike many places this owner comes out and will have a great conversation with you.

I have been here a few times in the past. I always had a Chicken Club, which was good. I do not care for the extra bread in the center. My wife and I were here a few weeks ago and the service and food was excellent. Tabitha was our server and she was very attentive. the owner was the chief at the time and he also came around and spoke with us at our table. That was a 5 star experience. My wife and I went there Wednesday evening. We did not get the same service as we did before. Only one server and cook. It took longer than we expected and the food was sub par on what we had before. I do like The Mod because they are a cut above the other restaurants in Pittsboro. They have a much better quality of foods from the grills in down town. This is upscale compared to them. I want to give The Mod 5 stars, but from our last experience I can not say it was. This will not stop me from going back, but I will make sure certain people are on duty.

For starters the only reason this review is a 2 is because the food was good, other than that we will not be back. The restaurant is not staffed. It took 30 minutes just to get a water and we were there for over 90 minutes waiting for salad and pizza. The food is good but not worth the wait especially since they weren’t even busy. Best part of the night hanging with friends.

My wife and I were looking for someplace to have dinner in Pittsboro – nothing too fancy, but someplace we could get a good salad or sandwich. We walked past this place as we ambled through town, and we completely dismissed it because of the name. Del? We don’t want hot pastrami and half-sour pickles(see what«deli» means to a New Yorker?); we want something light. Later on, in our room, we went through all the online reviews for the local places(which struck us as very hot or very cold, never consistently just plain good), and my wife finally said, «You’re not going to believe this, but I want to go to the ‘deli’ place,» based on the menu. When we arrived, the waitress told us they were short-staffed in the kitchen, so our meals would be a 20-minute wait. Still, she kept checking on us, kept filling our water glasses, and kept updating us on progress until the meals came. We both ordered salads – she an all-vegetable salad(the Alison, I think) and I the beef and bleu cheese salad. The bowls were big, the presentations were great and the ingredients were fresh and varied. We enjoyed them very much. Around us, the other diners were getting sandwiches and wood-fired pizzas, which all looked great, and which everyone seemed to enjoy immensely. The one hiccough: we asked for some details on the very unfamiliar names on the list of house wines available by the glass. Neither of us is a wine connoisseur, but we had no clue based on the names. The trouble is, neither did the waitress, or anyone else in the restaurant, apparently. The wine we eventually ordered was a nondescript red. In fairness, the restaurant bills itself as a place for cocktails and craft beers, but I’d suggest getting some fairly easy-to-identify house wines(an Argentine malbec, a good, reliable wine, etc.), so that they don’t put themselves in the position of having to answer questions from partons they’re not equipped to answer. The other suggestion: Go outside and paint over the«Deli and» on the sign. The atmosphere was good, the menu was varied and food was great, and we almost didn’t drop in because of the misleading name. We’d definitely go back the next time we’re in Pittsboro.

This place has the worst service/management/kitchen staff of any place I have ever been to. Timeline: 7:15: Our party arrived. The place had about 25 people in it, but the wait staff couldn’t even handle that. 7:30: The drinks that we ordered when we sat down finally arrived. 7:45: The waitress comes back to take our order 8:30: The two people who ordered salads at our table finally got them. Note: ITTOOK45MINUTESTOBRINGOUTTWOSIDESALADS! 8:45: After everybody else in the restaurant was served, we finally got our«entrees» ITTOOK90MINUTESFORUSTOGETOURFOOD! Oh, and by the way, I ordered a cold turkey club sandwich. Now I’m sure you’re asking yourself«did the cold turkey club sandwich taste like it was made by a 3 star Michelin chef?». Note: If you did actually ask yourself this question, please punch yourself in the face. I can’t believe how awful the service/kitchen/manager were at this place. After we were done with our dinner at roughly 9, the waitresses did not even come by to our table to check to see if we were okay(presumably to avoid any sort of complaints we may have). I had to scream across the room to the waitress who was standing behind the cash register to bring us our checks. Also, the manager did not come by to apologize for how long the unreasonable wait took. It wasn’t until 9:30 until we finished paying and left! That’s 2 hours and 15 minutes for some drinks and a club sandwich! Never go to this place unless you enjoy wasting your Saturday nights being annoyed with your friends and waiting an ungodly amount of time for simple deli food.

Tried a modern life today and it was great! We went in for lunch and ordered a pear salad. The salad was plentiful filled with lots of onions, pear etc and the grilled chicken was moist and delicious! The atmosphere is clean and kind of groovy. The couple next to us ordered a wood fired pizza that I wanted to grab… it was thin and crispy and full of toppings. We can’t wait to go back and have a pizza and try a craft beer!

We tried Mod today for lunch. My husband ordered the pizza, changing a topping without any problems. The pizza was very good. The service was a bit slow, due to «phone orders» prior to our arrival. At the time of ordering we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered a reuben which was very large, the corned beef lean, but one side of the bread was black from over toasting or grilling. The potato salad as a side was average in taste and plentiful. We will return and try again soon.

Update: Beware that after posting review to Unilocal the owner posted the Unilocal review to his Facebook page for the business.

Really friendly staff, inviting and clean décor, and good, fresh food. The roasted artichoke pizza was pretty on point, and the salads were large and vibrant.

I have only made it here a handful of times — each time for lunch. Each time, I had a great sandwich. I really like the atmosphere, almost the whole place has been upcycled. The staff is friendly and the food is prepared as you order it. The place is clean and the owner is usually buzzing around and he is a really nice and friendly guy. I have yet to try their woodfired pizzas but will soon. I have passed the business at night and it looked pretty active. I just read about their beer selection here on Unilocal so I will definitely be back again soon. A+

Best Woodfired Pizza in North Carolina… Wonderful salads with generous portions. Delicious deli sandwiches that come with a dill pickle spear and choice of chips, pasta salad, potato salad, or 3 bean salad. Nice selection of Craft & Local Beers. Highly Recommended!!!

I love having more cool places in Pittsboro! Stopping by for both lunch and dinner I have been able to try a variety of things on the menu and by far the Reuben is my favorite. Every part of it is Yummy. Great corned beef makes this warm sandwich just perfect. They even sub out the thousand island for mustard for me no problem ! I have tried two of their pizzas too. Good size for one with leftovers. Wood fired pizza style with just enough cheese and toppings to make them light but very satisfying. The garden salad side was super fresh and the blue cheese vinaigrette different and delicious Wine and weekend music add to making this a great place to hang out.

I’ve been wanting to try«The Mod» for quite sometime. My wife and I brought our daughter and had a pleasant experience. For the foodie in me — the food is decent. The wood fired pizzas are tasty if a little sparse on the toppings. The sandwiches are pretty good. A solid 3 stars for food. Where this place makes up for it’s slight shortfalls in food it more than makes up on in its beer selection and beer club. The pints are all straight priced as are all the bottles. 5.50 for a pint(Relatively standard) and 3.75 for a bottle. Their beer club is 50 bucks and gets you a bump up from a standard pint to an imperial pint on all purchases, specialty tastings, and at times a free pint of new breweries or offerings to their line-up. We’ve only been for lunch so it may be different for dinner, but you order from the counter and the food is brought to your table. A bit weird if you’re ordering drinks with lunch as you close out, and then reorder and rerun your card. Whatever works… The interior is well appointed and the owner Tim and the guy at the counter are very friendly and definitely enjoy what they do. We liked this place enough to join the club and have been twice in the past two weeks. We’ll be back again.

The best pizza in town and really good sandwiches. Anytime I’ve been slightly unhappy with something, the owner has made every effort to make it right for me. I can tell they are really trying to make this place great, and I really enjoy going here for lunch. The atmosphere is a little stark and not really my style, but it’s okay. They could use some more art on the walls or something. I also have to get up and ask for almost every refill which is a little irritating. I recommend the bell pepper pizza or the buffalo chicken wrap.

OK, the place might be considered a bit eccentric, I write that off to the owner Tim trying to establish a unique place. The hours are different, but they have been the same for a while and they post any changes they need to make well in advance. The service has always been good, and the food has been consistently great, especially if you like wood fire pizzas. So if you are looking for a faux Italian pizza place there are several in town. There is also a classic Italian pizza place not to far down the road. But if you are looking for a place with a bit of creativity, some excellent food and a unique ambiance, then try the place out. If you are a beer drinker that appreciates a good NC brew, this place is on its way to having 21NC beers on tap.
