This BBQ place is always good. The service is friendly, laidback, but prompt. Good location, good food, good service. I like the little mac and cheese jalapeño poppers or whatever they are??? And you can’t really go wrong with any of the meat combos. It’s a can’t miss BBQ place.

Being from a state MUCH further north, I decided to try this in particular because I think Southern people do BBQ-type foods better. I was right! There buffalo wings were the best I ever had.(I am not kidding, they were literally, my favorite wing recipe EVER). Really liked it. Also did not know what a hush puppy was but they were very good too. The BBQ ribs were delicious. Definitely if we visit NC again we will come back.

This little BBQ place at the one of the entrances to the Pisgah National Forest just outside Brevard has all your standard BBQ joint fair. Plenty of seating and a large menu allowed for all the time to review each item on the menu while ordering a beer. Now, they got 5 stars from me until after the 3rd beer had more head on it than Mr. Clean… basically depriving me of about almost an entire beer after 3… disappointing, but not totally making the experience negative. Nice staff and good food makes this a good place to eat in these neck of the woods.

This is the 2nd time we’ve eaten here. Unfortunately, it will be the last. The BBQ is fine(its hard to screw up BBQ). However, the signature onion rings that take 20 minutes to make came out in about 5 minutes this trip. My first bite told me that they had been fried quite a while ago and then dumped back into the oil to heat them up. They were cold, soggy, and had that burnt oil taste. And the veggies are just marginal. Our first time here was in August and the place was crowded. Now its October and I’m realizing that it was crowded back in August simply because of its location at the entrance to the Pisgah Forest not because its good…

Not good. Ribs were way too fatty(almost under cooked), BBQ was nothing special, and the service was terrible. The location was the best part about this place. I would avoid the pork if you eat here. Maybe try a burger and a bake potato.

Hit this place every time we camp. Can accommodate a large group but be patient… service can be slow. 1. Corn Nuggets…5 stars. My wife’s favorite part of meal. 2. Fried Mac & Cheese Bites…5 stars. Spicy and delicious. 3. Pulled Pork…4 stars… good but not amazing. A little dry. 4. Garlic mashed potatoes…2 stars… eh. 5. Baked beans…2 stars… sauce tasted jarred and not cooked longer enough for flavor to meld. 6. Hush puppies…5 stars. 7. Fried squash…4 stars… good…little greasy. Generous portions, good value. Will return next trip.

Very bad experience but very good food. We had a party of 4 adults and 8 children and this restaurant was recommended by the Park Ranger at Sliding Rock as it was close and locally owned and operated. The restaurant is nicely furnished and has many large tables that seat 8 or more and we were seated very quickly. That is where it starts to go very wrong. We were seated at 1645 and forgotten. Two visits to the front of the restaurant speaking to staff were required prior to getting a waitress to our table that was about 20 minutes. We placed a drink order and received the drinks around 15 minutes later. Very irritated but willing to order we did place an order with appetizers and main courses all around. The appetizers came out in 20 minutes but they were warm and good. But, no main dishes so two more trips to the front were required and finally at 1800hrs we had had enough and demanded the manager come to our table and explain why 3 other large groups that were seated after us had been served, eaten and were leaving the restaurant while we sat and waited. The manager came out and apologized stating that there were two misconnects with staff that caused the problem. He was very apologetic and said our food would be at the table in 4 minutes. Well it took 5 but we all agreed that the food was very good and under normal circumstances, decent service, this would have been a 5 star hands down. We didn’t ask and the manager did not offer to comp any of the $ 158.00 tab which did not set well with any of us but it is what it is.

After dropping the kids at Gwynn Valley camp we stopped here for lunch. We ordered the eastern pulled pork and the St. Luis ribs. Both delicious and moist, I would definitely come back here for more!!!

Best BBQ in Brevard, but that’s not saying a lot. The barbeque at Hawg Wild is pretty good, but the service is tepid and the décor is tacky. Expect to have your order repeated back to you several times by local teens, leaving you to stare at un-punny license plates or read the business cards and napkins shoved under the glass dining booth top while waiting for an unacceptable time for your food to arrive. To avoid this, I have tried to use the drive through, but still waited 25 minutes from time of order until served at the window(after they said it would only be 10 and after taking my money they asked me to drive around so other drive-through customers could be served). The food, thankfully, makes up for it. The meat is tender, the sauces sweet, and the side dishes complementary. I could use a little less of the forced country décor and the oldies music dispersed through the satellite TV audio system, but I will keep going back for the food and not the(cloying) ambiance at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest.

Overall food and service was good. Ordered the sampler and full rack of ribs. Ribs on the sampler were nice, juicy, and tender. However, the ribs from the full rack seemed a lot smaller and overcooked. Explained the situation to our server who was very kind and gracious and got the manager for us. Manager was excellent and took the time to explain that ribs vary in size so that was the reason for the difference. We asked if we could get a few more of the thick ribs, and he happily ordered some free of charge. Great customer service. In the future, will make sure to ask for thick ribs cooked medium.

I’ve been visiting Brevard since 1998 but have never tried real southern BBQ. My family and I FINALLY decided to grab lunch here with my Grandpa. We came around 2pm on a Sunday and we were seated within 5mins. The hostess and wait staff were very friendly. We ordered fried pickles, eastern and western style BBQ sandwiches to share, along with a mixed plate of Eastern&western bbq, ribs, and hush puppies. The meat was super tender, and the Western sauce was sweet and paired well with the meat. We were STUFFED after. Haven’t really felt hungry since. One of the most filling meals I’ve ever had. Really recommend this place to anyone passing by this area!

Had lunch here today, first time and was I impressed! I had the BBQ sandwich Eastern Style and it was outstanding! Best BBQ I’ve had in the Western NC area!(Except mine)! The waiting staff is very cheerful and made you feel at home with an endless supply of tea being served. Just a tip, lose the sweet-n-low for the unsweet tea. Splenda is such a better tasting option for those of us who are diabetic.

We went on a Sunday afternoon after camping for the night and it was very busy. Seemed to have enough service staff but service was not very good. They all looked like they were in high school. It took a while to place our order then we didn’t see the server again until I asked for the bill. She was very nice but just overwhelmed. The food was good but the BBQ sandwich was light on the pork compared to other BBQ places around. The french fries were awesome. For myself, two kids burgers, and a frosty beverage it was $ 25 plus tip. Oh the bathroom was disgusting which makes me wonder about the kitchen.

I was in Brevard recently and just had to return. They were very busy, but it didn’t take too long to be served. The ribs were to die for. just like the last time. They were so good, that I bought two more full racks and transported them home… four hours away. I cut them up, froze them, and now I can have a taste every so often until I return. Their ribs are that good!

This was some serious, killer BBQ! This was a random stop on the way out of Mt. Pisgah and we’re really glad we found this place. Hands down best hush puppies I’ve ever had and their ribs were up there too. The ribs were smoked, but still literally fell off the bone and the flavor was intense. It was porky, smoky and sweet. I could drink the Carolina sauce it was so good and a bit of that on the corn nuggets was an insane flavor combination. This was the best meal we had in all of the Asheville area during our trip and some of the best barbecue I’ve had anywhere.

Before I stopped eating meat, I literally went crazy over this place. Best barbecue that you will ever eat! The atmosphere is super causal and welcoming and the service is always great. Since I was a kid, my parents would order Hawg Wild. I love their barbecue… Even though I can no longer eat it. The hush puppies and slaw are also fantastic! Definitely worth trying out if you want some good old fashioned barbecue.

Stopped in at Hawg Wild last Saturday at lunch time. It was plenty busy but we were sat quickly. Décor is as you would expect at any BBQ restaurant, pigs everywhere and ironic, pithy country sayings on the wall. My friend recommended the two meat plate with Eastern and Western. Sounded pretty good to me. It came with slaw and fries. The Western was surprisingly dry. I had to load it up with sauce to really make it palatable. Conversely, the Eastern was really really good. Moist and flavorful. Both sauces that they have available were good but I preferred the Western sauce. The fries were really good too. Nice seasoning and a good crisp to them. Slaw was standard. Our server was hit or miss. Mostly miss I suppose. Our drinks were empty for most of the meal and refills were brought when we asked for our checks. It’s likely that I would return to Hawg Wild next time I’m in the area. I’ll get the one meat plate of Eastern style and leave room for some Dolly’s.
