excellent food, the staff was super helpful and very nice, I’m definitely going back to this restaurant before I leave Phoenix.

Sushi was absolutely delicious especially given that fact that it is in Arizona! Lost one star since it was not the best I have ever had, but still good! Lost another star because we were sat immediately, however waited 15 minutes before our server greeted us. He also forgot our drinks and we waited another ten minutes for them and we were still charged! Setting was sleek and upscale for being in a strip mall.

We went for a birthday dinner. There were 6 of us. We ordered drinks and food. Our drinks came right out. Food began coming to each person. 5 people got served. One person of our 6 got lots of excuses but no food. They didn’t offer anything to us except — it will be right out(X5). Epic fail You’re off the list.

The food and atmosphere at Yasu is one of a kind! You’ll feel as though you are eating at a resturant in New York or Los Angeles. It’s the best sushi in Arizona by a long shot! If you’re lucky Mr. Yasu will be there preparing your perfectly curated dishes!

I’m am kind of hesitant to share this review because it could turn into a much more popular locale. Located in a strip joint, and had an open table for 4 on a weekend night, I didn’t expect much. But I was pleasantly surprised. Really fresh, personal, tasty sushi joint.

Incredible food. Horrible service both times by pretentious server(Jordan). He messed up order and blamed us– that we mis-ordered. Service 101– repeat order back(if large ego allows). Also forgot to order items and never asked when we wanted things brought out(miso soup first– oops, forgot to order). Support staff Yvette was pleasant & attentive. 2 days later service still sucks– charged same card twice on split bill. Get over yourself Jordan.

To start, as soon as you walk up they’re charcoal grilling kalbi out front and the aroma is amazing, I ordered the kalbi don and the marinade they use was delicious. My boyfriend got their chirashi bowl which came with a fantastic variety of fish and also came with scqllops, shrimp and octopus which was a beautiful add. We also tried the black pork gyoza skewers and soft shell crab, adorable presentation and absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We had dinner their Friday with my daughter and her boyfriend. I have dined at some of the finest restaurants in the US. This meal was a culinary extravaganza. It was without a doubt the finest dining experience of my life. Yasu made all our choices from beginning til desert. What an experience!!!

Great sushi, great service, good atmosphere. My wife and I found this gem and we are coming back. The only downside is no substitutes.

This is my favorite restaurant in Phoenix right now. I’ve been here 5 or so times, and every time I am impressed by the service, food, and ambiance. Walking in to the restaurant, you are greeted by the entire kitchen staff shouting something in japanese — it’s fun and welcoming! The environment is very classy, but people can be wearing casual to dressy attire. There are a variety of seating options, from regular tables, to booths, to sofa chairs, to benches. A few patio seats as well. Now on to the highlight — the food! Disclaimer– I am not a huge sushi fan, though I will eat and enjoy it occasionally, but Yasu’s has so much beyond sushi and it is all amazing! I usually order off of the tapas menu. The pork belly bun is my absolute favorite, incredibly delicious. The house green beans have a sauce that is so delicious I could order two of those generous servings and have that be my whole meal(if it weren’t for the fact that I’d be missing out on all the other amazing options!). My new favorite are the bacon wrapped dates — the perfect mixture of sweet and savory. The asparagus with egg was good too. I’ve tried probably 5 or 6 other menu items as well, and it’s all on the range of good to great to absolutely amazing. I am so happy to have found such amazing Japanese food here in Phoenix!

I really wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by Yasu Sushi Bistro! Newly moved from Scottsdale to Phoenix, I am in desperate need of new neighborhood eats. We had our«go-to» sushi place in Scottsdale(Hiro), but haven’t found much in our new neighborhood until we tried Yasu Sushi Bistro. The location doesn’t seem like much from the outside — located near PV mall in a strip mall that has a Circle K and a smoke shop. But this is typical for Arizona, so don’t let that affect your decision to try this place out. We came on a Saturday evening around 8PM. There were only a few other couples dining. Our waiter was attentive and knew the menu well. He made great suggestions were were always very helpful to our ordering. We ordered a few items off of their special menu as well as the Bistro cold udon(amazing!). We were pleasantly surprised by each dish — all were great and all will be ordered again on a future trip. I’m happy to say I’ve found my new sushi spot!

Yasu didn’t live up to all the good reviews. The star can only be for the staffs, they should get a 3 – 4 stars. The restaurant was not full, but I had to wait 30−40mins for my sushi, while my friends got n finished their blacken cod, poke salad. Mine wasn’t done yet. My friends ordered more rolls, and they still came before my sushi. I just had their regular sushi. Very small plates and not worth the trip. I am a sushi n sashimi fanatic, and Yasu was like a fusion petite plates n nothing special.

Arguably the best sushi in Arizona, and I can be a snob about my seafood! The oysters are the best I’ve ever tasted; I have never been a fan of the larger Atlantic oysters, the most common in the U.S. given that we harvest them. Unfortunately, they taste no better than a glass of sea water to me. Their fish is always fresh, including their uni, which is hard to come by. The service is great, and the owner is very kind. All in all, I have no complaints other than the fact that there isn’t one close to home!

A patient and helpful waiter, combined with outstanding food and a perfect semi-sophisticated(but not too sophisticated) vibe, easily results in a strong five star rating. The menu is more than a bit complicated. I believe there were actually six of them this Friday evening. That’s half the fun and where a helpful waiter comes into play. Since a majority of our party had never been to the restaurant, we opted to share numerous small items to sample the menu. Many were ordered on the recommendation of our waiter. We were not disappointed. Interestingly, the bistro green beans tapas was my favorite dish(I was traumatized early in life by too many middle school cafeteria green beans, so green beans are never preference of mine). Or were the pork belly buns my favorite? Or the shrimp tempura udon? Can’t decide. Highest praise came from my daughter, the one who lived in NYC for a year. She stated, «this reminds me of my favorite NYC sushi spot.» I greatly appreciated the helpful waiter who showed no impatience with our illogical ordering process or our preference for water(there goes the big tip in many waiter’s eyes) as our beverage. We tipped him as though we had all ordered cocktails. The location, wedged between a Subway and a Circle K, doesn’t impress. But open the restaurant door and you’ll be rewarded. Reservations suggested if you are going at a peak time.

I ordered the snake shiitake. It’s amazing that they make the shiitake as thin as noodle. I’m a vegetarian. The taste makes me remind meat’s flavor. The waiter is also kind and polite. I will give a 5 no doubt.

I come here to eat probably a few times a year, mostly lunch, sometimes for dinner ever since Yasu opened at this location almost ten years ago. Menu changed slightly over the year but the food was always consistent. This place is small and I always feel crowded as space between tables are not that much, that is probably a main reason I don’t come here more often. I had chocolate soufflé for desert. I think their ice cream was homemade. The yamamomo(Japanese wild peach or Myrica rubra) was so sour, it complemented sweet ice cream and chocolate soufflé. Yamamomo left a nice after taste. In a way, it was balanced like yin and yang, sweet desert with sour yamamomo. On this particular day, I had chirashi for my meal. It was good, but great. I like to order chirashi from any sushi restaurant as it comes with variety of fish and other food, and it is easy way to evaluate the quality of ingredients they use. Their chirashi wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but they were good. I would order again.

My boyfriend and I went to Yasu Sushi Bistro on a co-worker’s recommendation. Needless to say we were extremely impressed. The sushi is fresh and flavorful, the décor clean and tasteful, and the server we had was extremely knowledgeable about every item on the menu. We asked him for suggestions, and we were thoroughly impressed with everything he recommended. Yasu, the genius who comes up with the menu items, is himself behind the sushi bar preparing the wonderful delights that pleasure your palate. Try the pistachio salmon — raw salmon, rolled up and drizzled with hot chili oil, Japanese mayonnaise, and garnished with a delicate Japanese mint leaf, and topped with a pistachio. The flavors mingle and develop in perfect harmony in your mouth. Pork belly in steam buns have a little Mexican flair, as they are wrapped taco-style in a soft, delicious, Chinese steam bun wrap. If you like bacon, you’ll love pork belly. I can’t get enough of this place. I actually want to try everything on the menu. This is hands-down the best sushi I have ever had, and I have eaten a lot of sushi in my lifetime so far.

I’ve been to Phoenix a few times on business travel. When I do fly out for a job, I like to eat fairly well. This place came highly recommended by my sister, who was a pastry chef at the Bourbon Steakhouse. She’s eaten here a number of times and loved it. Since she’s Miss Picky Eater, I took her suggestion to heart and came here on my last night in town. I was not disappointed. I arrived in time for happy hour. I was able to grab a few drinks and a seat at the sushi bar. It was an honor to have Chef Yasu see to all my dining needs. He provided excellent suggestions. I ordered the ankimo monk fish liver, ocean trout nigiri, Japanese snapper nigiri, cream scallop, bistro green beans and the bistro albacore tuna. My favorites were the ankimo, ocean trout, bistro albore tuna and the red snapper nigiri. I was SUPER pleasantly surprised with the snapper. Past experience gave me the expectation that a red snapper is one of the more tougher fishes for me to eat, especially with that bit of tendon that never gets removed. Chef Yasu proved that it could, in fact, be soft, tasty AND delicious. If you couldn’t tell, I stuffed myself silly. In the end, Chef Yasu and I swapped dining recommendations. Him for Phoenix and me for San Diego. I look forward to my next trip out. Another visit for me at Yasu. Can’t wait!
