My family makes a point to go to this place every year. It’s such a timeless little spot. So far removed from the troubles of day to day realities. I love it. If i could give this place six stars, I would. Things to do while there: 1. nothing. the best option ever. Just bring a book, sit on the deck and watch the time go by. 2. the creek. Every year I must take a dip in the creek. I’m nervous how deep it is this year, but time will tell. 3. Anderson valley brewery. I dont think anything else needs to be said on this point. 4. Hit up the coast. It’s near by… and beautiful. why not. Either way, if you need a place to stay, or if you are planning a get-away…think of Van Zandt’s. It’s wonderful.

We just had a very delightful stay at VanZandt’s. I will say that I was a bit worried about what we’d find since the website has almost no information and the place only takes cash or checks. I could only find one other review, which was here on Unilocal but it was a positive review so we took our chances. There are 5 cabins. We had one that had a double bed and twin in one room and another double and twin in the«sleeping porch.» The cabin is clean and fairly maintained but it’s very obvious these cabins have been around a very long time – which added to the quaintness of them. The walls are not insulated. We were never cold inside. There is a wood stove, however, and plenty of firewood to be had on property if need be. The lack of insulation also means you really have no privacy between rooms so it’s good to be staying with people you are okay with hearing everything, because you will. The kitchen has a modern gas stove/oven, a coffee maker, full size fridge and plenty of dishes, pots and pans, glasses, etc, that you might need to prepare your own food. There was a nice table in the kitchen so we could eat inside. The bathroom has a shower, sink and toilet. It’s a pretty tiny bathroom but suited us just fine. There were plenty of towels. We spent a lot of time on the spacious porch. In the evening we had a perfect view of the moon coming up. There are a few mosquitos that appear in the evening so be sure to be prepared for them. We brought our laptop since there is(limited) wifi so we could keep up with the outside world. We also enjoyed music since we brought along speakers but next time we’ll bring a power strip since there is only one outlet in the kitchen and it had the fridge plugged in. We didn’t spend much of any time inside since the weather was a lovely 90ish for the first weekend of June. There is a river about a 3 minute walk on the property with patches of sand and enough water to have a decent swimming hole. We paid $ 155 per night for the little cabin(#3) and while I thought that was a lot at first I really think we got our money’s worth. We saved a lot not dining out for 3 meals a day and most of the other places to stay in the Valley are really not affordable to us. There are several nice wineries to check out nearby and within a few miles, which is what brought us to the area in the first place. Jose, who is in charge of the resort was easy to work with and non-intrusive. We will surely visit again.

A friend brought us to this rustic Redwood oasis, and we love its country-charm, and secluded location ever since we came here the first time. Their wooden cabins: are basic, but fun to stay in, and the grounds are well kept-up. At night, lay down on the grass and count the shooting stars… Or, the next morning, go to Scharffenberger Cellars, and try their Brut Anderson Valley… For those who don’t expect hotel or B&B comfort, it’s a great place to spend out-time, walk, swim, picnic, bbq, or explore the natural surroundings.
