Great steaks I have been eating for over 50 years. They have not changed. Still Great.

Ill start with what was fantastic. the onion rings and milk shake were exactly what I was craving. The onion rings were crispy and flavorful and you could tell the milkshake was made with decent ice cream. Unfortunately, its the cheesesteak that was lacking. I ordered a cheesesteak with onions, mushrooms, mayo, and mild sauce. Unfortunately the mayo and mild sauce was missing. While the flavor of the steak was good, there could have been more steak inside. The bun was soft. I would give Joes another try and hopefully actually get to try their famous sauce!

Excellent steaks and great service! Would recommend the in house sodas and lemonade — definitely would come again!

This place doesn’t even deserve a star… I went there twice on separate occasions and got TERRIBLE service. I’m not the type to review but, this place needs a new waitress or whatever she is. First of all she did not greet, secondly I asked kindly to give me a few minutes meanwhile I called my coworker to see what he wanted and I asked to see the size of the bread for the cheesesteak. The other woman showed me and I said«it’s not that big» she turned her head(the one that I asked to give me a few mins) and repeated exactly what I said, «it’s not that big». I only said that because my coworker doesn’t eat much and that was about the size he eats. I explained why I said it wasn’t that big and she did not apologize so I left. NEVERAGAINWILL I COMETOTHISPLACE. Such a shame because I heard good things from this place and people are always wondering where are good cheese steaks.

This is the kind of place that makes Jersey great. My son and I were hiking in the area and our stomachs were rumbling. Perused Unilocal and found Joe’s. A local landmark it seems. A quick drive over and we were ready for some serious eating. Friendly person took our order but the person who rang us up gave the impression that exchanging a pleasantry or two was a foreign concept. The place is known for their steak sandwiches. My son had hot dogs. He demolished them quickly noting they were better then Jimmy’s down the block. That’s high praise in my book. I had the steak sandwich, no cheese with some very good spicy sauce and grilled onions. Great sandwich-needed more sauce. Next time I’ll ask for it. French fries and onion rings. Some of the best rings anywhere. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Coming back from PA, I had to stop by for a good olé classic Cheesesteak sandwich. Place has been around for nearly 75 years, so clearly they know how to make a good sandwich right? Mehhh… I love a loaded sandwich, so I had, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and peppers on mine. Bread was stale and hard, provolone cheese was not appetizing, and were very skimpy on toppings. Once the bread is ruined, its hard to really enjoy a sandwich. Steak itself was nicely chopped up but had no seasonings, lettuce wasn’t chopped up, just a large piece you’d see on a sandwich from Wendy’s, jalapeños were a perfect kick, and mushrooms were fantastic! Fries were also delicious, perfectly soft and crispy. For my drink, I had a fountain diet coke, something so simple, right? It wasn’t a shake or anything that you can mess up on. Took a sip and immediately noticed that It was very flat, no biggie, returned it and politely asked if the soda keg can be changed. The young lady proceeded to the back, returned and advised that everything was flat… Okkkk? So I took a bottled drink instead. What got me was another worker proceeded to say«not everyone can get what they want.» Luckily, it was said to my man and not me because if I heard it, I would’ve walked out. I’m not going to give your business my hard earned money, when this is something so simple that can be fixed but since your embarrassed, you decided to flip it around. I won’t be returning with attitude like that, but I’m glad I tried it since it’s not around the corner from me. It’s a descent spot, but nothing out of this world.

Favorite cheesesteak. PDCFO H/S. Been going here for years. In high school I’d go for three sometimes but no longer. Every once in a while I’ve been stuck with slightly stale(let’s say not as fresh) bread, but this is an exception. Love the hot chip steak sauce. Beats philly stops IMHO and I’ve been to many and love them. Joes is better, especially with the sauce. And for those curious it stands for«plain double cheese fried onions hot sauce on the side.» Say those words when you get there and you will leave happy. I like it this way because the bread stays a little less soggy so I pour on the sauce with each bite.

Best cheesesteaks in the area. All of their other sides I’ve tried are fantastic too! I recommend the poppers and pirogies. Make sure you ask for extra sauce to dip them in! Service is friendly and fast. Food is cheap! And they have a loyalty punch card in which you can earn free steaks! Love this place!

I have been going to Joe’s since my parents took me in the 1960’s. I remember steaks being $.45! My wife and I moved to Phillipsburg in 1980 when we got married and I got her hooked on Joe’s. Years later and my kids are big fans of Joe’s, too. We were just in Philadelpha this past weekend and I don’t think that the Philly steak I had there was any better then Joe’s. Joe’s is the best, bar none.

It’s a steak shop, so I really just came to check out the steak sandwich. A friend had told me about this place, and I wasn’t real hopeful, since a decent steak sandwich in the area is rare. I will not compare steak sandwiches outside of Philly to those that are made in Philly. That just isn’t fair, since Philly steaks are in a class of their own. 4 stars for the steak. It was a decent size, nicely packed. The roll was good, not great. I ordered my sandwich with provolone only, no onions, no sauce. I wanted to taste the sandwich without being overwhelmed. Overall, it was nicely done. Maybe next time I’ll skip the cheese and go for fried onions only. I ordered two sides(oink!), mozzarella sticks(a true litmus test, ha) and the mini pierogies with garlic sauce. The mozzarella sticks had a breading that was different and better than the usual bland coating. But there was something amiss with the cheese flavor. I recall telling my dining companions that the cheese tasted like American cheese. The pierogies were … meh. Tiny *tiny* bit of potato that was encased so that when deep fried, you had mostly a pocket of air to enjoy. But I was okay with that. It was the garlic sauce that turned me off. I was expecting a drizzle of garlic that had been very very lightly sauteed in butter. I would have even tolerated something creamy. I got creamy alright, but it was awful. I offered a taste to a dining companion who mentioned that it was like some kind of salad dressing. And yup… that’s exactly what it made me think of, that somebody had bought a garlic salad dressing in a 2 gallon industrial jug, and just emptied it into little cups. Thankfully it was served on the side, so that I could still eat my pierogie air puffs. I am not an al fresco fan… I don’t like having to wave flies or yellow jackets away from my food. But I was tempted to dine outside. I suspect that Joe’s is more of a takeout place, not for dining in. The interior was small and claustrophobic. Staff was very courteous and friendly. My dinner was cooked and served up at the counter promptly, although I saw a few individuals in line behind me that didn’t get their food and sit down until I was well into my meal. So it appears that wait times can vary. Price is better than average. Only 6 bucks for the sandwich, but if you look at the pics posted by other reviewers, they aren’t that big. Overall, a good place. A better than usual steak sandwich for the area, and while I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit, I’m still glad that I had the opportunity to dine here, and I’ll probably get takeout if I’m going to be in the area anyway. Sandwiches only, though :)

The best cheesesteaks in central Jersey. It’s fair to say you would have to visit Philly to do better. Try ordering a «cheesesteak hot» I love the peppers they put on.

The place is a dive, but if you’re in the mood for cheesesteaks, these are pretty tasty ones! Only complaint is that they need better rolls – they’re way too soft, which means that you have to eat it really fast before it gets soggy and gross. Definitely better for eat-in(when you eat as soon as it’s ready) than takeout, for exactly this reason.

Joe’s… OMG! I’m a native Chicagoan, and my(now ex) wife is from PB. I came out here and wanted a «Philly» cheesesteak and she and her brother just laughed… and they brought me to Joe’s. So, Joe’s is apparently not a Philly cheesesteak, it’s a Phillipsburg cheesesteak. There’s a difference. And NO, contrary to their reviewers, the sauce is NOT ketchup-based. Just because it has tomato in it doesn’t make it ketchup. I recommend the«hot» version, it’s got quite a kick to it. I can seriously eat two or three of these things… I’m sitting here in front of my computer in Chicago, and I am seriously tempted to drive out to Pburg and grab one(or three) of these things. Seriously, you haven’t lived until you’ve eaten at Joes…

2 for friendly service and being a clean place. The food? Meh. We ordered a steak with hot peppers and sausage with sweet peppers, both with hot«sauce». Note to self – remember to always order things on the side. Why? The sauce is ketchup based, and I’m not a fan of ketchup. I know, it’s apparently unAmerican of me, but it’s one way to guarantee that I will dislike something – just add ketchup. Fortunately, I was able to nibble along the spine of the sandwiches as though they were corn on the cob to avoid the substance. Also – even the peppers are in the ketchup sauce. I will say that the sandwiches are enormous – 8“x4″, so if anyone is complaining that they’re expensive, bah. They’re massive stuffed sandwiches. But, the bread is also not toasted/heated on the flat top. Grr. It was a good roll, but this didn’t help matters. Then the meat – meh. Chipped beef or chipped sausage that each tasted a bit gamy. The onion rings and french fries were standard. The pickles are a standard German style with sweet spices such as clove and coriander. Under $ 15 for the 2 of us, and we were stuffed, but I can’t say in a good way. Very full still – 4 hours later – but not a happy fullness. Just full. And they do accept credit cards, plus offer a AAA discount which we decided not to partake in using. A cute place with a pleasant staff, but we weren’t impressed by the food. There’s a funny sign in the shop mentioning the need for 2 napkins, but you will need at least 4 – 6 if not more.

Joe’s has amazing cheese steaks! They are delicious whether you get them ‘hot’(with jalapeño peppers) or not. Their fries and onion rings are delicious too. The cheese steaks are a perfect size for the price! There’s a small eat-in area(i’ve never seen it full) and some picnic tables outside. It’s extremely casual and best for a group of four people or less. You just order at the counter then wait around for your food. They prepare it fairly quickly. Everyone is friendly there, I haven’t had any issues! mmmmmmm i really could go for some cheese steak now!
