First off. This is not Mexican. It’s Tex mex, it says on the menu but If u read the reviews, many ppl confuse the 2. 20 minutes and the waitress only brought us water and forgot my Lemmon. Giant group sat next two us and they pretty much forgot about us. so 20 min later a different server shows up and finally takes our order. Food is about the same quality as Taco Bell. They have a great little Mexican place right behind Tinseltown beside a car mechanic shop, that place has great food but no fancy building like rio grande.

Our service the night we went was excellent! I was wishing I knew our servers name– gentleman in his mid 30’s, maybe early 40’s– hispanic, worked the outside where we were. he was awesome! He got all 9 of our orders correct, and was a perfect waiter for every one of our needs. Past that. the food and drinks was nothing I’m dying to return for. Seriously. Boring beans, boring rice, lack luster Mexican food all together. Hot ass salsa tho!??

Our go-to mexican place. Disclaimer: every Mexican place we go to I get the exact same thing: 2 cheese enchiladas, crispy beef taco, rice. A must for me is AMERICAN cheese used in enchiladas/nachos!(I know, i know…) This place has that so we tried it a few years ago. I stupidly decided I’d get one beef enchilada and as I pulled the fork from my mouth my fiancée(then boyf) watched on in horror as a long black hair came out of my mouth.(gag) Manager comped our meal and we like to say that’s the best business decision they made. We tried again a few months later and YUM! Make sure to ask for ANGELINA! There is always a sports game on one of their many TVs which is a big plus and the place is never empty. We usually get chicken fajita nachos to start and they are delicious. 6 half shells, not a big pile. Salsa normally very good — sometimes extra spicy. I always get the Rio Combo and the fiancée can recommend: *Puerco Cascabel *Chimichanga *Carne Gratinada *** sometimes he gets no rice/beans and extra veggies and cheese and they do it right! Looks and tastes delicious. Service is AWESOME with Angelina. I don’t get alcoholic beverages there much so won’t comment but usually see more than a couple tables full with margaritas or beer. 10/10, 12⁄10 with rice.

They give me all the veggies I want and don’t bitch at me. No problem. They also give me more veggies than I can fit in my belly. And good veggies, mushrooms, squash, zucchini and carrots… lots of shrooms, at a Mexican restaurant… Awesome. I heart you Rio G. I have been here numerous times now and have ordered a few things, sometimes I order the same thing just to see it it’s consistent and it has been. Carne guisada. Muy muy creamy gravy, not too rich, Chunky meat, soft. Mmmm. Beef fajitas. Sliced medium thick. Perfect for taking bites from taco. Tender. Seasoned to perfection. Not too salty. Plenty of green bell peppers and onions. Sliced medium to thick for a perfectly not over cooked pepper. Yum. I hate slimy peppers and onions. Never slimy. Chicken fajitas. Same. Carne Asada. Pounded thin to medium, yummy easy to cut with knife, perfect flavor with a little like slice. Yes. Mmmm. All of these have been ordered without the rice and beans.(Sorry, I’m a Terrible Mexican I know.) so I have no idea what the rice and beans taste like but I’m sure they’re fabulous. Salsa– I love hot. Spicy. Endorphins. But not everyone does, and so the trick is to make a salsa that has a little tiny kick but a lot of flavor and they have this down. It’s like a salsa that’s amping you up for the meal but not taking over the show. You don’t want to fill up on chips anyway that’s not what you came for. I’ve never tried the margaritas but I always sit at the bar and there is always someone on either side of me that has one In front of them, so they’re either fairly inexpensive, fairly delicious or porque no Los dos? My server knows I always order hot tea, brings it to me before I can even ask, how sweet. They have a good parking lot, easy breezy, nice hours. Never a wait. Maybe that’s because I zoom past the hostess to the bar I don’t know, but I never see anyone waiting. So yeah I love this place. Summary-Mexican food place that has a healthy-ish/er option.

Went to this restaurant today for happy hour and happy hour it was. Had a big question about coming to this place today and it was answered. This was a good choice and i will come back again. The food was decent with no complaints and the margaritas were great. The service though was top notch with a smile from the waitstaff and the manager coming around making sure everything was going okay. The atmosphere had a lot of energy for some odd reason with no music in the back ground. As i mentioned, the food was decent and priced right for the quality. The customer service is why i am coming back to get me another margarita. I came in with a frown and left with a smile. I do agree about giving this place 3.5 stars but 4 stars for the great waitstaff and manager Enjoy this place!

I haven’t really been taking the time to review places recently, but these guys deserve a higher rating! The fajitas and carne guisada were excellent and when we asked for some extra veggies, they were more than willing to oblige! Grilled veggies of all types to go with my fajitas(carrots, squash, peppers, tomatoes, and more). Friendly waitstaff, funky décor, and the place is really clean as well. Definitely recommended.

8.26.15 and I met a coworker at this place. We’d been planning on grabbing something to eat and hadn’t made time to do so in a long while. I wasn’t aware the place existed until he informed me about it. I got in my ride and slid on over to P. Ville. I beat him there which was shock considering he was already in Pflugerville. He ended up having to park out way in the pasture(kidding) for a spot. The place was hopping by the time he arrived. We got to the doors and had a bit of a wait for a table. We ended up being seated across from the doors though. The one thing I recall from that day which stuck in my head was the wait staff. They seemed to be a bit aloof and miscommunication was going on. I distinctly recall two booths in front of us as we waited to order. One booth held a man and the other was a couple. When the waitress came back to them she gave the wrong credit card to each table… and didn’t apologize. The guy looked at me and my coworker and just shook his head. We finally got a different waiter because Mrs. mix up went to the back to eat or something. He took care of us and got our waters out fast. I ended up getting a burrito and my coworker got pastor. Both of our meals were large and in turn carried big flavors. I would go again and I just hope that next time the staff is communicating better on tables.

Last night we were a group of 18 celebrating my sister-in-law’s birthday at the Rio Grande Tex-Mex Restaurant in P’ville. We all had a great time and ran our waiters ragged. They handled the drink orders, appetizer orders and dinner orders flawlessly. I ordered the Rio Grande Pollo — grilled chicken strips with bacon, spinach, mushrooms and zucchini, covered with Monterrey Jack cheese and sides of Mexican rice and charro beans. Absolutely delicious! The servings were very generous and I couldn’t finish it all. I took the remainder home and this morning I made a fabulous omelette with those leftovers. Yummmsssville. Two great meals for the price of one. Can’t beat that. I highly recommend the Rio Grande Tex-Mex Restaurant in P’ville. Can’t wait to go back.

Really wish I could give exactly 3.5 stars but since it’s here in Pflugerville I’m willing to be a bit generous. In short: Nice looking building, cool bar, pretty clean looking inside. Decent menu, the food is not too bad and it’s reasonably priced. Service is fine. Love the hot salsa they give out with the chips. I enjoyed the carne asada even though the pepper and onions burnt to the skillet a bit. Hubs had some type of enchilada combo platter and liked it. For both plates the portions were large. Grande margaritas are awesome, especially at happy hour! I did a half strawberry, half mango and even though it was a bit sweeter than I prefer(read: very sugary mix), it was overall a good deal. Would definitely be back with the hubby for the occasional TexMex happy hour close to home.

I love this place! The tamales are so delicious. I always get the tamale dinner with double refried beans. So good. And the sangria/margarita blend is so nice. Hits the spot on a hot Texas day.

Great food, great bar service, & great margaritas. Just a little FYI, The margaritas are a little on the strong side, so don’t order if you don’t like that strong liquor taste. Other than that, it’s a great Mexican food joint. :) The parking is crazy, they are always packed but that just goes to show that many people love coming to this place!

Friendly staff… Stopped in for a margarita, ordered a few a la carte items at the bar, enjoyed the freshness of the guacamole, enjoyed the crispiness of the tacos. Crispy tacos are always a difficult thing for me to order, considering most of the time once they reach you they are soggy on the bottom. NOTHERE! They were crisp the way a crispy taco should be. The margaritas are awesome and the bartender is not finicky with the tequila at all. I had a great overall experience here and its certainly a must try if you have not.

I ordered the fish tacos, which were not very good at all. The fish itself was okay, but it was served with cold taco wraps that were falling apart. In addition, the waiter messed up my order twice, which was unfortunate. I came to Rio Grande in part to watch a College Football Game… they had all the TV’s turned to different games but they couldn’t get the one near where I was sitting to work. They tried, but weren’t able to figure it out.

My good friend knows the bartender, Trix, well and speaks highly of this place. Since we live around the corner and needed a place to get a drink on a Wednesday afternoon, this was the perfect place. I was happy to see they have other alternatives than the traditional margarita, and had 2 coconut ones, which were perfect. I’m giving 5 stars due to the very friendly service, but the restaurant was a bit too dark for me. I’d go back, though!

This place has become my go to Mexican food. If you order the queso mix in some of their salsa with it. It’s sooo good! I love this place! Perfect tex mex! We always order to go just because we’re home body’s but when we go to pick up everyone is always nice and our order is always correct.

Poor reviews are rare for me. Soggy. Messy. Poor presentation. Mediocre flavor. Lackluster servers. Weak tea. Yikes. I have been there twice hoping visit one was an offnight. No. There is plenty of Tex-Mex in Austin for me to suffer through mediocre food. Not for me. I actually have a group of friends that meet here about once a month and I am officially in «I’ll go next time if you’re going somewhere else.» mode. If I return it will only because I want to see those friends.

This place gets a passing grade, but not an A. Some places have great salsa, some have amazing fresh made tortillas, some have wonderful flavors that stand out. As for this place, I can say that I went from hungry to full(and had some extra to take home — they did have nice large portions) and I was not angry or displeased about it. We dug into chips and salsa as soon as we were sat on the covered patio. Our waitress kept us in water all meal which is not easy. We ordered fajitas for two and they were completely adequate, but average. I’d go back if I happened to be in the ‘hood and try something else to see if maybe fajitas just aren’t their specialty, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do it.

I was in North Austin and in the mood for Mexican food so I thought I would check out a new place. I found this place on Unilocal and decided to give them a call for a togo order. After looking at their menu, I saw an item that really stood out, Stuffed Avocado. The meal came with a large avocado stuffed with cheese, chicken and sauce and the whole avocado was surrounded by some type of crust/bread, still not sure what it was. The meal was accompanied with rice and an enchilada. I also ordered a taco place. I came to pick up my meal about 10 mins later and it was ready to go. It was about 5:30 and the place was pretty empty on a Monday night, all the waiters were just sitting around talking to each other since the tables were all empty. Either way, they were incredibly prompt as soon as I walked in. The bag was quite large, and it wasn’t till I got home that I noticed it included a massive bag of chips, large side of salsa, and small side of queso. I am not positive if that is a normal addition to all to go orders but I was not disappointed. The meal was great, solid prices and overall, great experience. I would defintely come back here again.

This is my wife and my Goto Tex Mex place. The Top Shelf Margaritas are super. We usually have the Shrimp Diablos for appetizer. Excellent!!! Queso and chips and then have different entrees every-time. The staff all know us and take great care of us. Totally recommend!!!

This last visit was really disappointing. Service was non-existant. Easiest way to mess up a place is to treat people like you don’t care. Food was more than decent. Not sure I’ll be back anytime soon.
