In an age of online bookstores and kindles, Copperfield’s is a oasis for readers both young and old. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the selection is very good and if they don’t have it they will get it quickly and painlessly. Their children’s section is a treat, my kids want to go in and read whenever we are in the neighborhood, and that is perhaps even the best recommendation you can get.

Disclaimer: I’m partial to independent book sellers so I wanted to love this local store. It didn’t disappoint. It’s well organized, well stocked and fun to browse through for hours. There is a downstairs area with used and rare books. They have a loyalty program– discounts for those who pay for membership-and free gift wrapping. The best part was they had a book that I had tried to order on Amazon before I knew they existed,(new illustrated Harry Potter) but was back ordered online. Can’t beat a local store with a better selection than Amazon!

I absolutely love this little place that isn’t so little at all! Love the fact that they have a downstairs section of used books for great prices. I can spend hours here looking at all the books and various things they sell. The staff is incredibly friendly, and makes this environment truly enjoyable to be in. They’re helpful and cheery! I’m addicted!

When selling used and rare books, tread cautiously… My experience when entering into selling a very nice selection of used first editions and unique/rare books was with a lot of enthusiasm from the staff. In reality it was handled with a lot of haste and very little compensation. Instead of 15% which is very low to begin with the total was less than 10%. I wouldn’t recommend selling anything to the book buyers at the«downstairs» Copperfields book Store in Petaluma, Ca.

In a society riddled with technology and on-line shopping, disgruntled employees that act like you are bothering them by asking a question, and the need for instant gratification… I was so excited to find this gem of a book store. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by a big smile and a «can I help you find anything?» by Gary. I asked if he had a book, and not knowing off hand he happily went to the computer to investigate. Not in stock… but he did help me find the two other titles which were in stock, and also made some incredible suggestions as to other books I might be privy to. Without even knowing, while I was spending time with Gary, Amber took the initiative to look where I could find the book and the fastest way it can be ordered. Within two days I was back at Copperfield’s picking up the original title thanks to Amber. Ross was awesome as well as he overheard the author I was purchasing, and made an incredible recommendation for my next read. This place has most of the books you could ever want with a huge selection, without the feel of any on-line shopping experience or the exhausting visit to Barnes and Noble wondering if anyone is going to help you… and if they don’t have it, they can order it with a smile on their face and a true willingness to help your experience a great one. Thanks guys for being awesome

What a fantastic bookstore! Upstairs is the new stuff and downstairs is the used and rare items. We found all sorts of reasonable priced treasures for the kids! Everything from geography to stories. If you are a bookstore nut and have been to Logos in Santa Cruz, it’s similar but a lot nicer. If you love books, find it, visit it, and enjoy it!

If you’ve got tots this place is awesome for them taters. The kid section is comfy and has loads of material to select from. It’s well lit as well. Downstairs is the used section and again, great spot down there for the children as well! I know right? Wtf? The staff are friendly, super duper friendly. They also host book signings so if your a tween and wanna stalk your most fav author! U can totally do that! Awesome magazine selection. Oh, they also have this grand find Waldo hunt that includes loads of local downtown businesses. I’m a big fan of these kids.

Decent selection, friendly and pleasant staff — just super pricy. While I’m happy to support independent local booksellers, and am happy to pay a bit of a premium to do so, the prices are really really high. I honestly wouldn’t have minded paying MSRP or even a premium on top of that. But, we’re talking double the price of what you would find on online.

This is my favorite bookstore. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and their events are awesome. And then there’s the used bookstore I the basement full of rare and first edition books as well as a collection of gently used books for same. Awesome service. Awesome selection. Awesome.

I came in to find(fingers crossed) a book that would maybe go with a little girls dinosaur birthday party… Not only did the super nice gal behind the counter find me ‘Tea Rex’ which is beyond perfect but she was so nice and everyone there was tickled to hear my kid requested a dinosaur tutu party. These folks are great!!!

I’ve never had a bad experience here. This book store has been here a long time. And I’ve been coming in for years. They generally have what I am looking for and sometimes things I’m not looking for and don’t realize I need it until I see it. They will let you come in and sit and read as long as you want. I’ve never been hassled at all. I’ve read an entire magazine in here and not been bothered. The staff is fine. Not intrusive or salesman at all. They also have a whole basement full of used books at low prices. I’ve found some really cool stuff down there. Overall this is a great place to kill some time or find basically any book you want. They have it.

Copperfield’s always seems to have exactly what I want. There is always one copy of whatever book I’m looking for at any given time. Kinda odd that it seems to work out that way but I like it.

I love that Petaluma has a great local bookstore right in the heart of downtown! I always find myself wandering back to the travel section and exploring their many books on different places to visit. They also have a great recommendation shelf in the front which is always a good place to check when you’re looking for a new read. Another perk to Copperfields is their downstairs used book section. Books can be expensive some times so it’s nice to know you can find them for a reasonable price!

Amazingly knowledgable staff and an excellent selection of new and used books. Fun author events, too, with both local and big-name writers.

Fantastic new & used bookstore that has something for everyone. I really like the used books area downstairs, and you can sell books there on certain days. The staff are friendly and helpful. Sometimes they host authors here for book signings. You can also find good deals on books on the carts outside.

I’ve been going to Copperfield’s since I was a little kid in the 1980s. This place is by far my favorite bookstore, and it’s so sad to me that these little brick & mortar shops are slowly becoming a thing of the past. The selection is always awesome, the presentation is beautiful, and the employees are always super friendly. You won’t find a better bookstore, and if you do, I congratulate you because there certainly aren’t many like this one.

I was with 2 kids, so I only made it to the kid section… which was GREAT! totally huge, diverse selection– very well curated, not a bunch of junky movie/toy tie ins(pet peeve!). awesome space for kids to hang out for hours to read & play. my kid was excited to get not one but TWO different books signed by the author, so I imagine they have lots of readings/signings here. the books tables on the way in peaked my interest… but alas, I did not get to browse. I hope to be back to check out the rest of the store!

They are amazing. Great selection of books and WONDERFUL staff that always helps you out. The very nice lady in the children’s selection is the most helpful. We have bought so many books from this amazing local resource. they hold events with amazing authors and book signings. The Holiday Staff wraps your presents… GREAT. The only complain I have is the out dated rewards program… it does not work like it should… hopefully they get it fixed soon… then they will be five stars and if not three…
