Mathnasium

We are very pleased with Mathnasium. It has been a huge help. We have two high school students who attend. They like the tutors and going to Mathnasium on a daily or weekly basis, and their grades prove how beneficial it is to them.
Kevin, the owner, is great. He runs a great business. We couldn’t be happier with Mathnasium.

Mathnasium is a wonderful tool for students who are floundering, lost, or are just disinterested in math at school.
I am writing this review from the perspective of a tutor who worked at Mathnasium, but also the older sister of someone who would not have passed high school math without this institution.
First of all, Mathnasium pays its tutors far better than any of the other tutoring institutions around. Ultimately, you get better quality tutors because of this pay differential (ie: often college grads) and due to the center’s director. Kevin Thoman maintains a great rapport with his employees and his students. He is affable and understanding, but he maintains a good balance of discipline. Furthermore, the tutoring system they have developed is great for hammering in math principles and tools that will help your child throughout their math-​related life. It has a great learning atmosphere, and I can’t speak for every employee, but I truly enjoyed being at work.
As for my younger sister’s experience: She is very intelligent, but she had had very negative experiences with math teachers in her past. She has ADD, and some past instructors made her feel as if she just wasn’t «good» at math. Kevin managed to provide a very different and positive experience for her, and she was able to graduate high school with a high B in Pre-​Calc where she was previously failing. I obviously wouldn’t guarantee that everyone will have such an amazing turn around– every student has different learning weaknesses, but I think that for many students the positive atmosphere paired with the disciplined learning schedule can have positive results.
