Incredible food! Do not miss on your way to the beach. We’re glad we listened to the other reviews. The Mac bites were amazing, the unsweetened tea, the hush puppies, the beans, the BBQ sandwich… everything! And super cheap. We’ll be back :)

Simply SUPERB. BBQed Pork as clean and moist(not oily or fatty!!) as it gets. And, critically, it’s NOT salty! And Beans made fresh every day — The Best I’ve had in NC. And yet, it is the single, brown Sweet and Spicey(and somewhat salty and peppery) Homemade BBQ sauce that, with an 8+ oz. portion of superb pork on a nice bun for $ 4.45(you read it right!!), that is truly outstanding. So good, it’s being bottled and sold separately, but is made in house — always. Many places give you 4 or 5 oz. on a sandwich, with a single side, for $ 7, $ 8, or even $ 9. Twice as much, and 3 times as good, here, for under $ 5!!! Worth driving from Waxhaw or Monroe or Charlotte — it’s that good!

Thought this was a fantastic place. All reviews that mention worth going a bit out of your way are on the money. Staff is great along with all the regulars. Nice friendly atmosphere. Food and tea are excellent.

Barbee’s has the absolute best hush puppies I’ve eaten at a restaurant. They are tender with the perfect outside crunch. We have tried the old fashion burger, bbq(no grizzle or a lot of fat), wings, flounder and chuck wagon. They are all very good but my favorites are the bbq and old fashion burger. The sides are really good too, everything tastes fresh and you can tell it did not come out of a carton. Both the servers and owner are great, very efficient and friendly.

A friend and I stumbled across this today and were amazed. The hushpuppies and pulled shoulder pork were the best I have ever had. It was juicy and succulent meat served in generous quantities. I did not get the baked beans, but my friend did and said that they were incredible. I will be back in the area next week and will definitely eat here again. Hidden gem along the empty stretch of Hwy 74!

Good service and good food. The pulled pork BBQ was good. Hush puppies with honey butter is also a hit. Bosco burger is another good suggestion. Everything served on disposable plates and cups. Not the real restaurant feel. But ok food.

Stopped by on my way back from the beach. Wonderful people and great food. Some of the best barbaque I have had in NC. If you are there on Friday get their chicken.(only served on Friday). Their red slaw is very good. I plan to be back.

If you are on your way to the beach from the Charlotte area, please heed my advice and stop at this rural BBQ joint. It will be a decision that you won’t regret. I just stopped here by chance and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem located off of the barren 74 East. The moment that I knew that this place was worth stopping at was when we were driving by and noticed what appeared to be a good ol’ boy in some dirty overalls entering the establishment. This may as well be a high neon sign saying«great BBQ here!» BarBee’s uses Hickory Wood to cook all of their meat, and you can tell as soon as you pull in the parking lot by the glorious aroma. As you walk into this place, you soon realize that it is no bigger than a double wide trailer. This just adds to the character of the place. It was decorated as you would expect: with some old relics including some unique ceramic antique pigs. As we opened the door, before our eyes had a chance to adjust from being outside in the bright sun, we were greeted by a friendly voice. I assume that this woman was the owner. Regardless, she was extremely welcoming and friendly. We informed her that we wanted to get something to go since we were headed to the beach, and she quickly put in our orders with a smile. As we waited we sipped on some sweet tea and soaked in the atmosphere. This was one of the only negative things I could say about the place. The sweet tea was not what I expected. Normally at a place like this you can expect a sweet tea that has enough sugar to give you instant diabetes, but it was a bit weak here. Our food came out within 5 – 10 minutes and after putting on some vinegar based sauce, we were on our way. We were not even out of the parking lot before I was raving about the food. The BBQ was so moist and flavorful! You could definitely taste that it had been cooked with hickory. I was disappointed with the vinegar based sauce that I had applied, but I quickly realized that this meat was so good that it did not need any sauce to moisten it or spice it up. Extremely good! Of course I put the classic white slaw on top and it was very moist and sweet. They complimented each other perfectly. The hushpuppies were very crispy on the outside yet gooey on the inside. I think that they must have fried them at an extremely high heat for a short period of time to get this effect. I wish more places would do this. The fries were crunchy and were great when dipped in their«hot and sweet» signature sauce. It was a mixture of a BBQ sauce and a sweet and sour. I wouldn’t recommend putting it on the BBQ, because the meat should be enjoyed for the masterpiece that it is, but it does make for a very good dipping sauce. I got all of this delectable food for under $ 7. It was a good portion size that left you feeling full but didn’t make you want to take a 4 hour nap. Barbee’s is perfect for a quick stop on a road trip. Go inside and soak in all of the character of this classic BBQ joint. Great food, great price, great service, great atmosphere. Checks across the board.

Quintessential rural BBQ shop. Pulled pork was tender but with dark smoke bark. Sauce is sweet with a touch of heat. Hush puppies were not dry as you find elsewhere. Broccoli bites are unique and yummy. Place was clean and the owner is as nice as could be. Don’t miss this hidden gem on the way to the beach.

Coming from Texas we wanted to try some N Carolina bbq. We took the waitress’ advice and got the pulled pork sandwiches with Red Slaw(vinegar based). We got one pulled pork and one chopped pork. I liked the pulled pork with the smoke bark. The chopped was more tender though. Their sweet bbq sauce was awesome. The place is small and cozy. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Oddly the bathroom was outside of the restaurant… not a problem… just part of the experience. Good food and great service!

While driving from Charlotte to Wilmington we looked up where to go for a quick lunch and found Barbee’s. Food and service were amazing. Don’t miss the BBQ Sandwich and fried pickles. A great find not to be missed!

First off, these are the friendliest people ever! Very sweet and inviting. They literally had 10 to-go orders placed when we were waiting in line for our food so we know this place is a big hit. The«pulled-pork» sandwiches were fantastic. The buns were seasoned and warm and there was absolutely no fat mixed in with the pork,(the fat is so chewy and gross!). We ended up grabbing 8 of them and were only able to eat one a piece.(They are humungous!) The fried okra and friend hush-puppies were perfect. The hush-puppies were crunchy on the outside and so soft and smooth on the inside. Absolutely the best I have ever had. I usually hate okra, but the way they fried it was fantastic. I’m a fan now! REALLY good unsweetened tea! It was fresh and strong, just like I like it. Amazing barbeque in North Carolina, even if they don’t lather it with homemade barbeque sauce like I am used to in Texas. WILL be back!

Oh my gosh — Nothing better than food freshly made — Nice people — My family and I have been eating here for years — The BBQ and sides dishes are superb — My favorite is the Boscoe Burger it has it’s own secret recipe, I put their special BBQ sauce on it, just awesome — Nobody does it like they do — If your out this way don’t drive by and if you do turn around for the best BBQ around

Fantastic!!! Definitely recommend the ribs… only available on Fridays and Saturdays. Pulled pork was great too… smoky and flavorful. The hush puppies were the lightest we’ve ever had… delish! Service was awesome… everyone was so friendly! Can’t wait for our next trip to the beach so we can stop on our way back again!!!

I’m giving BarBees 5 stars in service alone. Despite rushing in ten minutes before closing time, the entire staff treated us with nothing but true southern hospitality. The food was great, the service was better and they even sent us out with some free chicken & ribs for the road. Do yourself a favor, if you love tasty BBQ and honest friendly folk, head on over to BarBees BBQ.

So I’m writing from the parking lot just after eating. The stack of wood out back is a good sign. The prices were good, it was 8 and change for bbq plate with 2 sides and sweet tea. The service was ok except that I was only brought sweet bbq sauce and ketchup, no vinegar based. I just assumed they only had one type of bbq sauce. Right before I left however I heard the manager speaking with patrons about selling their vinegar sauce by the gallon. Also, I opted to go with«Texas Toast» instead of a roll or bun. I should have chosen otherwise. The«Texas Toast» was a piece of white bread with a tiny bit of butter with(maybe?) a dash of garlic powder. Meat was good, not too soppy, could have used a little more smoke, but 4 stars. It’s kind of sad the rest of the review is so lackluster because most of the time the meat is what’s lacking at BBQ places, and it was actually pretty authentic here, just everything else came up short. Coleslaw was good 3.5 stars, fries were average. Sweet sauce was too sweet and thin for me… 2 stars. If i’d been offered the vinegar sauce and it was good, this might have been a 4 star review… oh well, I will never know. I probably won’t return, ill try something else next time I’m out this way. That said, don’t avoid this place, it’s not all that bad, I just couldn’t give it a better review.

Sometimes the best food is nowhere near a mall, shopping center, or a city center. Sometimes the best food is on the side of a back road in a small town. Just like here. Stopped in under the recommendation of my girlfriend’s mom. She said to get the Bosco Burger. This being a BBQ joint, I thought this was a little strange, but I trusted her. And damn she was right. There’s something particular about the Bosco; she said that the recipe was passed down from the former owner of the place who started out around the corner on a roadside grill. The burgers have a very special feel and taste to them– I can’t put my finger on it but it was definitely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Meaty, juicy, the right amount of salt and pepper, and served with whatever toppings you want. I recommend the slaw. Service was ridiculously friendly and our waitress was more than personable. We waited for a little longer than we expected for the food, but we could tell that each burger was hand made so it was well worth the wait. Will be back next time to try the BBQ.
