I happened upon this after I visited the Pawtucket Arts Marketplace, and I’m so glad I did. Held in 5 different buildings around the Pawtucket Armory, Xos Open Studios showcases over 50 artists. Most are painters and photographers, but there are also a sampling of sculptors, jewelers, and potters. Making your way around the different floors of the different buildings, the studios were inviting with friendly volunteers and artists and a small sampling of snacks. While the art was great, I actually think the best part of these open studios are the buildings: Riverfront Loft especially. Each space was unique. From the 2 story skylight, to the large windows looking over the river, it was nice to appreciate the architecture along with the art. Some of the highlights of the day were the photography collages and transfers from Deb Hickey and the paper and glass mache vases from Darkhorse Designs. I don’t know if this is a monthly or yearly event, but I’m sure to be back next time it happens. Thanks to all the amazing artists for opening up your studios and homes for us.
