Everything was aggressively mediocre and the cashier apathetic. We went out of our way to try it out and we ended up very disappointed. I did like that it was a buffet and the fried chicken was pretty good. But as far as BBQ goes, I’ve had better.

When they say atmosphere is «casual» it’s an understatement, so be ready for that — not for snobs(which should be self evident from the establishment’s name). But if you are looking for good and well priced food, you found your place. We got 3 times as many delicious crab legs here as we got up the street, at the same price! And there is also a nice buffet. Enjoy!

Thought the barbecue was mediocre at best. Fried chicken was pretty good. Variety of vegi’s on buffet was good. No dessert as the banana pudding was gone and nothing else appealed to me. Husband thought the ribs were tough.

$ 7.50 for a lunch buffet, friendly service. Local southern food. It’s not the four seasons, but for the price and quality, Im giving it five stars. Seem like a lot of locals/regulars go there.

All was great. Fried chicken hot from the kitchen, pulled pork and at least 12 veggies to choose from on the buffet. Service was southern friendly for sure and of course sweet tea if you like it. Don’t forget to stop here in Pawleys Island SC

Atmosphere is laid back and casual, buffet is small. Only two meats, fried chicken and pulled pork. Chicken was fantastic, pulled pork was meh. I was also surprised the Mac n cheese was just ok too. The items off the regular items looked to be worth trying, may be better quality than buffet items.

This place ahhhmazing! I’m a really picky person and I couldn’t complain about the food at all! The Mac and cheese is to die for! The cookie Oreo pudding is good too! The bbq is WOw and for only $ 7.50 for adults during lunch is a bargain! They should be charging $ 15. It is that good!

If you are looking for authentic, yummy, real southern BBQ this is the place for you! Driving through the area we searched and searched for BBQ and we found exactly what we were looking for! We came for lunch and they had a lunch buffet for 7.50 and kids 3.20. The buffet included pulled pork, rice, hash, fried chicken, collard greens, corn, salad, sweet potato casserole, green beans, and much more. Best sweet potato casserole I’ve ever had. Pork and hash were awesome. We will have to make this a place we visit regularly. Loved everything about it!

Have to say that Hog Heaven’s fried chicken is both affordable and delicious. The skin/crispness makes this chicken to die for! The collards were good and the BBQ is tasty as well This is a great take out option. Will continue to be loyal to this establishment

My first barbecue place in South Carolina? I got lucky it was a good one. My mom had passed this a bunch of times and said ‘we need to check this out.’ Fortunately, she knows how I feel about chain restaurants(bad) and about divey looking places(usually great). We had no idea what was in store. A simple older setup, with a few tables arranged around buffet carts, a back patio area, and a bar tucked away in the corner. I wasn’t expecting the buffet style, but the quality of the food certainly didn’t suffer. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the fried chicken(super crispy and delicious) and the pulled pork(juicy and perfect with vinegar sauce). The greens and beans were amazing as well. And, like many others have mentioned, the banana pudding was excellent — which sounds weird when you say it, but all three of us really enjoyed it. We ordered some ribs on the side, which were perfectly smoked with just the right amount of bite. Incredible. I loved the sauces and bought some to bring home too, which weren’t overpriced at all! The crowd at the time was right after church — and seemed to pull in a lot of families looking for a good meal.

I have to go to the Charleston VA now and then and make it a point to have lunch here. Best bar b que I’ve ever had and the fried chicken is excellent I tell my friends when describing this restaurant that the banana pudding has BANANAS in it! How rare!!! I always get the pudding first so when I am full it’s on my table. I have been going there for 26 years, and my stomach always hurts from eating too much! The tears run down my cheeks as I thank God for bringing my mouth to the south!!!

After passing this place for years when vacationing in Pawley’s Island, I decided to check the reviews and was convinced to give it a try. Wow! Glad I did! Buffet was $ 9.50pp and featured some really amazing fried chicken and pulled pork. The sides such as the macaroni and cheese were obviously homemade and delicious! The whole family was very happy. Great bang for the buck. Give them a try!

One of the best BBQ buffets I have had in SC. I was with some prominent locals, so the service was great for us. I have seen in other reviews that the service was an issue. I though everything about the place was on point. I will go again for sure and highly recommend.

We are locals who eat out at least 5 times a week. Hog Heaven is our top spot anywhere in the world for fried chicken. The BBQ is adequate not great and the price is a bargain. If the owner was wise he would open a chicken only take out closer to where people are. The negative is the place is too far away. Also we regularly see a man who is either the owner or manager chain smoking cigarettes all over the back area. If we see him there we don’t stay as its disgusting. Also the previous poster is correct as there are a number of creepy looking, sloppy dressed dudes hanging around staring. Most of the girls are very nice though. But…if you want the best fried chicken ever, take the road trip waaaaay down, get take out and get in and out of the building as quickly as possible!

Hog Heaven was certainly not a heavenly experience for me! For starters, the staff was RUDE, rude, rude! The restaurant was hot and unclean; just not much to look at, honestly. The sight of the buffet was unappealing, but the one saving grace is that the food was pretty good. The fried chicken was actually amazing. The skin was crispy and flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly. The rolls were good, although they seemed like they came out of a bag. The veggies were unimpressive. The dessert options were great though! They had a couple of oreo type things and a banana pudding. I think this would be the perfect restaurant to if I were a local and I wanted a cheap, comforting meal. I’d feel perfectly comfortable going there in my jammies! However, for a dinner out on vacation, I was sorely disappointed.

Not a bad place for BBQ. Its good for large families wanting to eat from a buffet. The rolls are good as well. I only wish they had beef BBQ.

Four stars for the quality vs cost comparison. Definitely well worth the price. BBQ purists won’t be too impressed with the q but general eaters will like it fine. Most of the buffet is «southern fried» which is fine if that’s what you had in mind for eats. Seafood is not their strongest offering so if fresh catch is what you have in mind then you might prefer the inlet or a trip south. It’s not bad though if your group happens to want some variety. The décor is first class«out in the backwoods of East Podunk» style. Suitable for the eats and the folks there. Nothing fancy here. The staff is personable and efficient — sadly missing most places these days. Bottom line — it’s old school locals country and a good example of that genre. Come hungry!

I was on a road trip, and on my return, I knew I needed to stop by this place. It’s hard to see from the road with a tiny sign, but make sure you stop by. Let’s be honest. Roadside stands like this one are not Husk. Hog Heaven serves basic low country comfort food. With that being said, $ 7.25 for AYCE lunch buffet is a bargain, but AMAZING. They make an awesome fried chicken. Crispy skin, great texture, and juicy all the way through. I could only eat one thigh piece, as I was inclined to try a little of everything on the menu. The veggies were good, but all of them were salty and kind of remind me of stuff from a can. Definitely try the pulled pork. Fatty and incredibly juicy from the smoker they used out back. The waitress didn’t know what kind of wood they use, but definitely try it with the Carolina vinegar bbq sauce they have at the buffet, or one of the other sauces they have at the table. Definitely try the South Carolina mustard bbq sauce. It’s sweet, tangy, and vinegary. I would have bought a bottle to take home if TSA weren’t going to confiscate it in my carry-on. The sweet tea is fantastic as well, with unlimited refills. Service was very friendly. This is definitely more of a locals only joint, but everyone was very nice.
