Great use of space in a mixed use farm with good sized apple orchard. Lovely quality, heirloom tomatoes in summer as well as other veggies and herbs. Tomato tasting event in October. Supportive of young farmers in the area, both promoting and educating them.

Full disclosure: my sister and her husband are friends of the owners of Windrose Farm! Otherwise I wouldn’t have known about this place, but below is my take. Windrose Farm seems to cater to the chef/cook community, and not so much the consumer, although they have a stall at the Santa Monica Farmers Market. When I met the owners, I found them direct/brusque, but well meaning, and probably, a function of being so busy and having their hands in all parts of their business. While at their farm, I saw them working on everything from cultivation to taking care of everything to do with the farmers market, not once did I see them resting. We did not camp at their farm but know that they offer it as an option — for those inclined there are a bunch of properties on Airbnb nearby. Otherwise, it looks like it would be a nice, rustic farm experience. For those that do camp there, the property is lovely — rows and rows of organic vegetables and orchards, with the mountains in the background, plus a big enclosure for lamb. Of the things I did taste from the farm: the lamb, and the butter lettuce, and the tomatoes — I seriously think they were the best I’ve ever had. Even the lettuce was so full of flavour, which, when you are so used to having shredded iceberg lettuce everywhere, is a huge delight! I really wish I could be in California often to visit this farm — it is about 3 to 4 hours away from SF and/or LA, but seems to be as part of the Paso Robles food scene as Pasolivo olive oil and the region’s wines! Yum! BTW — I hope you like dogs and cats, because they are everywhere on this farm!

I was invited by a friend, a fellow cook, to visit Windrose Farm last week to observe a lamb harvesting. I was in awe of how much respect the owners have for their animals. After wards we toured the grounds and saw all of their greens and trees. The owners were very nice to us and explained what they were doing, future plans, and what makes them a bio-dynamic farm. neat place

Dreadful. The experience was horrendous. I cannot believe such RUDE Owners. Only do business with a company that is customer friendly with a smile. Very awkward experience. There are MANY other companies who exceed with politeness as part of their success. Word of mouth goes a long way and so does the internet. Opt for shopping and doing business elsewhere. Windrose is more like STINKrose.(** also view Trip Advisor ratings for other negative feedback from others.)
