tl;dr: AVOIDATALLCOSTS. He flaked on me after promising to do great work, and be very reliable. In my opinion, He is a scammer, and a con artist. DONOTTRUSTHIMFURTHERTHANYOUCANTHROWHIM. I first contacted Mike Ahart from Central Coast sealcoating about 8 months ago, when we bought a house with a very long(over half mile long) driveway in need of a lot of repair. This was our first time doing driveway work, and he seemd like a genuine guy, and seemed to know what he was talking about. He seemed willing to answer all of my dumb questions, and guide us through a big project. In hindsight, he was a great salesman. It took us about ~6 months to decide what we were going to do with our driveway. It was big(and expensive!!!) decision for us. On August 19th, we came to an agreement on price, and a date(middle of october). In September, we asked to get specific dates for the«middle of october», and he then pushed us off to the«last two weeks of october». Not being able to use our driveway for a whole week was a big deal to us, and took a lot of planning(my girlfriends work schedule has to be done 1.5 months out). Even though it was difficult for us to re arrange, we agreed. October 7th, we ask him again to give us specific dates. This time he promises he will be here November 12th — 17th, and that he would come out October 23rd, and 24th, if we didn’t get any rain prior to the 23rd. October 23th/24th — He of course didn’t show up. He said he didn’t show up because one of his other customers re arranged their job because the customer was AFRAID it would rain. It didn’t actually rain. They were just afraid it would rain, and he said he couldn’t make it. He also refused to return my phone calls to talk about other possible dates. November 10th, I called to confirm he will be here on the 12th, and he of course had more excuses, and wasn’t going to come out. Once things started going south, every time I talked to him, he always had very weak excuses for things. It was like talking with a crazy person, It just never seemed to add up. I should have went with my gut earlier on in the process, and cut him loose before it put me in a bind. DONOTTRUSTTHISPERSON. He has left me in a lurch now. My driveway is need of repair, and it’s now getting into the rainy season, which A) makes it more difficult to do driveway work, and B) puts my road at risk of being washed out/damaged further by the rain. Also, I’ve since learned that he isn’t even licensed to do asphalt/asphalt repair, despite the fact that he bids these jobs all the time. AND on top of that the license he has(for protective coatings ONLY) is suspended!
