Robert E Hansen, DDS

I’ve been going to Dr. Hansen for seven years and have had excellent care; two root canals that went very well and I get my teeth cleaned three to four times a year. I appreciate the manner in which he runs his office as well. People’s time is important and Dr. Hansen shows his respect for this by not overbooking his patients and thereby forcing them to wait in the waiting room for protracted time periods. This is a rarity in my experience!
What has finally propelled me to write a review, however, is the incredible job he just did with two veneers on my front teeth. They are incredible! The color is perfect and they are really beautiful. I was hesitant to get it done because there is nothing worse than really obvious veneers. I’m so glad I did! I also appreciate Dr. Hansen’s honesty. He told me that I really didn’t need them, unless I wanted them for cosmetic purposes… which I did! I highly recommend Dr. Hansen.

I do not recommend Dr. Hansen. He showed up late to my appointment. My current dentist also found subsequent issues with my dental work.

Really great. Scheduling easy; I can usually get in when I want. Parking is free on the street for two hours, so that’s nice. Close to freeways.

Simply the best! Super knowledgeable staff with zero wait time. Dr. Hansen knows his stuff! Answered all my questions and solved all my problems. Would recommend him to anyone.

Dr Hansen’s is awesome. I’ve been going for a long time. I moved to Santa Monica a few years ago, and I still drive over from Santa Monica to see him, he’s that great.
I didn’t like going to the dentist growing up, but Dr Hansen is so funny, he puts you at ease, that you almost want to go just to hear his jokes. He’s very friendly, trustworthy, and knowledgeable.

Over seven years ago, I went to this dentist and he suggested replacing composite fillings that were aging but not necessarily damaged. I didn’t know any better and went along with it when I could have waited years longer. I had many fillings replaced by him. He even told me that some people on great dental plans have their fillings paid for and replaced yearly. I should have known better when I heard a dentist suggest replacing fillings annually. What a bad idea.
The application of those composites in my teeth was not done correctly and the edges of the fillings did not blend into the teeth as they are supposed to (creating pockets for debris to collect and cause new cavities in the near future). I saw this in my exrays when I visited the next dentist and he showed me. I finally had to go to the second dentist because of tooth pain from mis-​aligning bite from the fillings not being leveled well where the upper and lower teeth meet, and he discovered the poorly executed fillings. The tooth pain was fixed with grinding down the fillings more. He said that several of the composites had to be corrected (replaced) over time to avoid collecting bacteria, leaking, and creating bigger problems for my teeth.
I then got another dentist opinion from my family dentist before believing this second dentist. My family dentist (who had records of my teeth prior to Hansen) basically said the poor quality of the fillings as they had been applied could amount to malpractice and that they would need repaired. She seemed shocked to see the lack of quality work. This whole episode caused me pain, money, and a fear of dental procedures I had not experienced before.
I hope future patients receive a better quality application of composite than I did. They are not easy to install so you need a skilled dentist to apply them. Perhaps you should request a set of exrays after new fillings to see if they’ve been done correctly.
Prior to learning about the problems this dentist caused me, I had a positive impression of him and the facility. I originally tried this place in response to a professional looking mailer with a decent exam price.

I have been going to Dr. Rob since 2000. .. and he is excellent. I also trust him 100% as he is completely honest and has great integrity. He would never ever persuade anyone to have dental work that wasn’t necessary. I have referred friends to him over the years and they have all had the same great experience. He is USC dental school grad but I don’t hold that against him even though we’re a loyal Bruin family. .. and he has a great sense of humor so that doesn’t hurt.
One thing I like is that he will see me at 8 am any day or will let me come as late as 5 pm on Thursdays so I’m not out of my office in the middle of the day. That’s important to me but may not matter as much to other people.
Parking tip (which I always need since I’m almost always running to make my appts on time): It’s pretty easy there. .. morning parking is by the hour, afternoon is a flat $ 2 or something like that or there are meters everywhere.

From a person with a lot of experience with dentists/​oral surgeons/​orthodontists, Dr. Hansen is one of the best. State-​of-​the-​art equipment where there is no more drilling or novocaine for cavities. Not to mention he and the staff are very pleasant.

Been going to Dr. Hansen for 10 years. Great environment — as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist is going to get. Highly recommended.

BEWARE THIS DOCTOR IS DESPERATE FOR MONEY!!! My wife went to Dr. Hansen to fill a cavity. Dr. Hansen did an x-​ray and convinced my wife that she needed a root canal on a tooth that was not even bothering her. My wife was reluctant but she decided to go ahead witht the procedure. Dr. Hansen performed the root canal but he left a pin inside of the tooth that was not suppose to be there. The tooth began to hurt my wife so she came back to Dr. Hansen and he realized that he left the pin inside of the tooth. Dr. Hansen did a procedure to aleviate the pain but he was not able to remove the pin. Dr. Hansen billed our insurance and our insurance refused to pay because they determined that the root canal was not necessary. A seperate Doctor reviewed Dr. Hnasen’s x-​ray and determined that the root canal was not necessary. Dr. Hansen then billed us $ 800 for an unecessary root canal that he didn’t even perform correctly. There are a lot of good Dentists in Pasadena but unfortunately Dr. Hansen is not one of them.
