Alice Yung, MD

This place wasted my 5 hours PTO. My appointment is at 10:45 they told me to come in at 10:15 and now it’s 11:55, I’m still waiting. Plus I can hear the conversation between the doctor and another patient very clearly when I’ sitting in the room next door or killing my time in the hallway, feel bad for the other patient because the doctor protects barely any of her privacy.

I waited for almost 6 weeks for an appointment. I took a half day at work and was a total waste. My appointment was at 10:30am, was asked to be here by 10am to fill out new patient paperwork. It’s now 11:15am and I’ve done nothing but sit here while 3 patients go in. Also, everyone in the office is speaking Chinese. Pretty rude for us English speaking folks. Never coming back here again. And this is me getting up and leaving!

You can consider Dr Yung if you would like a «completely covered» painless birth experience with all the tests and interventions. She is all about the tests, blood tests, epidural, petocin, jabs, breaking water bag, etc etc
I saw her for my 3^rd baby and wanted a «as natural as possible, drug free labour» and had a tiring time refusing the numerous tests and interventions she strongly recommended. when I was in labour, I had to keep fending off her «can I break your water bag» insistence… Too bad for her, I am very insistent too and got most of my way… and of course she succeeded in putting on my petocin drip after delivery and do numerous blood tests on me pre natal. I have never had this amount of blood sucked out in my entire life! the day after delivery, I simply refused further blood tests as I know I was fine and delivered healthily without extensive bleeding. if you are a lady who knows the kind of birth you want, Dr Yung is not for you. You will end up frustrated and tired like me.
One star for the really nice front line ladies and one star for delivering my baby healthily.

Overall she is ok. I had dr Alice do my first c section in 2008. She was barely starting her practice. And was very new, she gave up after thirty minutes pushing and called it cesarean. She was so nervous and short that she did the cut deep that it reached my baby and cut her cheek so close to her eye. My poor child now has a tiny scar she is about to turn seven years old. I did not do anything about it. I was just seventeen I was just glad it was not worse. She was nice through out my pregnancy and listened. I’m sure now she is more experienced and careful. She did mention to me that my c section was one of her first few since she was fairly new. But she is good. Everywhere we wait now a days so I guess we can’t complain.

I would recommend Dr. Yung’s office if you need a gynecologist, with a caveat, give yourself 1.5 hours buffer time between your appointment and the rest of your day.
Dr. Yung seems nice and capable, no question, but it was a waste of time to wait over an hour. I scheduled a 9:15 am appointment, so I have no idea if the afternoon appointments are better and more efficiently serviced.
My advice – it might be helpful to ask the staff when is a time that the delay would be minimal. When I brought it up to Dr. Yung, she claimed she’d been double booked (but I have a feeling it’s a normal business practice here).

Bottom line is I had several emergencies over the last few years and she not only doesn’t seem to care, she seems inconvenienced.
Another time she gave me drugs that I didn’t respond to well. When I called her about it, she seemed to not care. I do not recommend her. She has not been a good doctor to me.

My experience with Dr. Yung was that she was nice and cared about her patients. She was thorough and asked many questions. She listened to the answers. She does run late… she ran over an hour late once, and another time the office staff didn’t call to let me know she was delivering and needed to cancel. BUT, and this is a big BUT: She brought in an outside doctor to help with a c-​section and didn’t 1) introduce us; 2) mention this ahead of time; and 3) make sure the doctor was covered under our insurance. The other doctor had a crazy office staff that didn’t listen, didn’t know how to bill, and was unable to follow simple instructions.
Seems unethical to not mention this to the patient. While it may be necessary to have a second doctor on hand, this wasn’t an emergency and it could have been mentioned ahead of time.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. yung’s for over 5 years and have referred many friends and family to her. Recently, I called in to make an appt and had to be scheduled 3 weeks out. I was disappointed about having to wait that long for an appt but decided to keep it because she has been my dr for a long time and I like her.
A few days before my appt the receptionist called to advice me my appt was cancelled due to a change in the drs schedule and The only option I had was to take a morning appt on the next day or wait another 3 weeks to see her.
I had to move so many things around and had to schedule off of work to make the appointment. I got there early for my appt and waited for over an hour and a half!!! I finally decided to tell the staff about this and they looked unapologetic and stated they were aware of the wait time but I would be next. I asked for the timeframe and the receptionist said I could not go into a room bc they were full and she wasn’t sure of the remaining wait.
I decided to leave before my wait time was any longer. I told the staff I was leaving and they didn’t offer an apology or offer to reschedule the appt they just looked at me as if it was normal to wait that long… Will definitely no longer be a patient of hers. What ever happened to giving a shit about your patients and valuing their time?

I’ve been to Dr. Yung a couple times. The reason I give her only one star is that the first time, I was waiting for 45 damn mins in a hospital gown. That is so unacceptable. Just plain rude, not once did anyone check in on me. And if I had to wait that long, let me wait in — what a shocker — the waiting room. Not nearly naked and wondering wtf I’m waiting 45 mins. She didn’t apologize until I told her I was annoyed I had to wait so long.
I don’t doubt she is competent. But she is not a very friendly doctor. Very clinical. Maybe she’s just jaded, I don’t know.
Second, I got almost a 400 bill from a lab, I was not warned about this at all.
Update: also got couple more bills MONTHS after. WOW. Unprofessional all the way around.

I have been one of Dr. Yung’s patients for the past 3 years. I cannot comment on how she deals with pregnancies because I have not desired to become, nor been pregnant, so this is mainly for annual exams and any other issues that arise.
Others have mentioned wait time in the office. I do agree it can be quite lengthy, even with a morning appointment. In my experience with Dr. Yung, it is worth it because she actually takes time to answer your questions. I was agonizing over which birth control method to use as I have some complicating factors, and Dr. Yung was happy to discuss this with me at length. This is just one example of the many conversations I have had with Dr. Yung. Her bedside manner is a bit brusque, but it is just a personal style, and I do not feel like it reflects her level of caring for her patients. She is just a straight shooter.
There were some comments on the office staff. There have been some recent changes in staffing and I have never had a problem like the ones described in some of the other reviews. They always call and confirm my appointment and they have always treated me in a friendly and professional manner. Sometimes you might have to call more than once to get the doctor to call you back or call in a prescription, but I feel like this is typical of almost every doctor’s office out there, and when I have expressed urgency this has never been a problem.
I highly recommend Dr. Yung and her office. I feel very comfortable there and like I’m getting high quality care.

I’m usually the first to be sympathetic to doctors that end up running behind schedule– I’ve worked in medicine, I get it. Someone tries to make an appointment for the sniffles, but then decides that actually they’d really like to get this growth checked out too, and do you think this rash is okay?
But waiting nearly an hour for an appointment is unacceptable, especially when such a wait time isn’t even acknowledged or apologized for. And when I tried to talk to her about getting a procedure that could impair my fertility, she condescended to me and basically told me I wasn’t capable of making that kind of decision because I was young. She also decided that she knew my sexual orientation better than me, too. I hate that I had to pay a $ 30 copay just for a doctor to make me feel like shit.
I went to another OB/​GYN today who made me fully realize how awful Dr. Yung was– she gave me several suggestions that addressed the concerns I had without being condescending. This included medications that were more newly available, as well as a workup to get to the root of the problem. Dr. Yung did neither of these things– she made me feel unsafe, anxious, and like I couldn’t trust her with anything.

I’ve been visiting Dr. Yung for two years now (for my yearly lady-​parts smog check/​tune-​up) and I think she’s great!
She’s friendly, gets down to business (no frills or bs), and makes you feel sooo comfortable. Most of all, she’s real with you. Give her an honest inquiry and she won’t be shy with her advice/​professional opinion. One of the best things she’s said to me when I asked about preventing yeast infections: «go to bed without panties.» The bf really liked that piece of advice.

I feel funny writing this review because I’m a guy. Yes, I am a husband of Dr Yung’s patient. My wife asked me to write this review because she really likes Dr Yung. Not that I needed the encouragement. I saw her first hand as she delivered our first born. She was caring, attentive, listening, and professional. My wife feels at ease with her and after each of her visit, I get the sense that she’s in good hands. It was her friend who recommended Dr Yung and my wife is the one recommending others to her now. Yes, the waiting time used to be somewhat long but things have improved a lot. It seems like she’s been listening to her patients.
I don’t know. If you are a husband, you don’t want your wife grumbling about her OB/​GYN because it’s not something I can really relate to. And it’s not like I can help her find a good one from personal experience. I’m just happy that my wife is more than happy with Dr Yung. All I can say is that I would trust Dr Yung to deliver our second whenever that time comes.

I think she is knowledgeable and spends quality time with her patients in explaining things and answering questions. I went to her after a bad experience with another OB who was short with me, had the same wait time in a dirty lobby with a dozen other patients. Dr. Yung’s lobby and rooms are clean so I feel comfortable and stayed. I’m on my second pregnancy with her and my first child is a healthy, happy, energetic 2yr old. Also, my aunt had a Yeast infection, and she gave her a cream that did the trick in a day. Dr Yung is effective, attentive and knowledgeable. I place value on those things when seeking a doctor.

I’ve been going to her for the past 2 years. The only reason I’ve continued going is because I’m a newer resident of LA and finding new doctors is a pain especially when life gets busy. Every time I’ve come here i always end up waiting about a hour and a half and she comes in, in a hurry to get out. She seems to favor being an OB vs a gyno, judging by the photos of the million babies she delivered and because she was SUPER judgmental the first time I came in. The only time I had to wait a short time is when I complained about the long wait time and refused to pay my copay till after the appointment. Also its awesome when they make you wait in the office for 30 minutes and then make you wait a hour with no clothes on in a freezing exam room. The office is a pain to go through. I asked for a month extension on my BC and they said yes a month ago and then I went to my pharmacy to find out they denied it. Now it’s the same thing on the phone. The woman tells me dr Yung will approve it and then right before saying bye she says there is a chance that the dr will deny it.
I am warning you, do not see this doctor. Trust me I’m doing you a favor.

Seeing a gynecologist is an intimate experience often fraught with emotion. Don’t go see this doctor. The rooms look like exam rooms in a women’s prison. You will wait for at least an hour.
After 45 minutes waiting in a lap gown I had to redress and go move my car. Nobody apologized. In fact, the doctor, whom I had yet to meet, was standing at the counter and said «don’t worry, we’ll wait.» You have to be kidding me.
When I returned, she made me wait another 15 minutes. I put on a full gown this time because I wanted a thorough annual exam. I hadn’t had a pap in two years.
Immediately upon entering, Dr. Yung demanded to know why I was wearing a full gown. When I tried to explain I wanted an annual I was told I hadn’t booked that but booked an appt for fibroids. I have fibroids but I also have many other problems and need a full exam. I started to explain there was a misunderstanding but she opened the door and called down the hall to her nurse/​asst as if I were a trouble maker. There is no love here.
I asked her to be the doctor please and tell me what I needed. She sighed, went and got her stool from her office without saying a word and sat down.
After that, she did a thorough intake on her computer but wouldn’t give me a pap. She peeked inside to reassure me that what I had were cysts, though actually there’s nothing reassuring about her, and booked me for a biopsy to rule out cancer. Before even doing a pap.
After my biopsy she said she would deal with my issues at yet another appointment and sent me upstairs for repeat lab work I had three months ago.
This lady likes to bill.
To complete the cold experience, at the counter, while an older gentleman waited to sell her an ad, she continued to take my intake. Clotting? she asked. Right in front of him. He just stood there. So did I.
And then I left. Do yourself a favor — don’t waste your precious time at this office.

Came in twice to get a women’s annual exam. Even though i had an appointment, i literally sat there for 1.5 hours when they didn’t even seem busy at all. I don’t why they would make their patients wait for so long. I have friends who have gone there and told me the same thing about the wait time.
I would not recommend her, unless you would like to sit at her office and read a book for 2 hours.

I recently moved to California and needed to search for an OB. The first time I went I was on the fence. The place seemed unprofessional at the front desk but Dr. Yung was helpful and detail oriented. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that she seemed to be pushing me to make decisions rather then allowing me to decide for myself. So, I decided I would go back, give her a second chance, and make her my doctor (big mistake). I took off work for an appointment and when I got there the receptionist informed me the doctor was out of the office for the day! I got no call, text, email, or voicemail to warn me that my appointment was canceled and the desk girl didn’t apologize. I asked why I wasn’t contacted and the girl said they didn’t have email and forgot to call me. What?! Needless to say I will be going to a new doctor.

Dr. Yung is really nice. She explains things thoroughly. Her staff is great. The appointments start on time. And she stores all her patient information on her laptop, which is really modern and eco-​friendly.
BUT — her process is structured so that she can charge you as much money as she can. My doctor referred me to her for a specific procedure. Instead of just doing the procedure, she made me go in for a consultation so she could explain things to me ($ 350!!). I had to make a second visit to for the procedure, but she didn’t have the right tools (still cost me $ 125 even though they didn’t do anything). So I had to make a 3^rd appointment and went back again ($ 550). And when the results came back? I had to go in so she could explain it to me for another $ 125.
Not only did I waste time, I could have just went to a doctor that had the right equipment, did the consultation and procedure in one appointment and called me to explain the results.
I haven’t been to her for over 3 months and she’s still sending me bills! Unless you have super-​duper awesome coverage, don’t go to her. And even if you did, I’m sure she would find a way to over-​charge you!

She should have been my OB for my first pregnancy. My weight gain wouldn’t have to be out of control. My OB for my first pregnancy had no regard wither his patients gain 80 lbs during the course of pregnancy. I’m glad I found Dr. Yung and have her as my OB for my 2^nd pregnancy. Although one might take offense her honest approach on weight gain during pregnancy, I’m glad she was strict with me. She made sure I understood the complications that would happen if I don’t control the weight gain. I had a high risk pregnancy and she took every precaution there is. Yes, the wait time can be long despite having an appointment and the office can be chilly but then so is every other doctors office. I have yet to see a doctor who sees me at the exact time of my appointment.
I highly recommend her.
