Sad to say that after planning for 3wks to have our xmas office lunch here and traveling for 1hr once we arrived at 1pm on a Wednesday it was closed! Not coming back… Waste of time!

I’d give this a 3 ½ if I could. We did the Sunday buffet. The water for the panic puri wasn’t very zesty(tasted too watery), the drinks took seriously forever to come out(we were consistently done with the part of the meal we had ordered it for). But the dosas were quite tasty and other parts of the buffet were good. I don’t feel strongly about the experience one way or another. I guess I’d go again.

We had a delicious meal here. The wait staff was very professional and accommodating. It’s a buffet set up so you serve yourself, the food is fresh and delicious and there are many selections. This is an excellent place for tasty Southern Indian vegetarian fare. We plan to return.

Simply the best dosas I’ve had in NJ. Staff here are also much nicer than other places in the area. Food tastes amazing! You can tell it was prepared well. You get what you pay for. I asked them for a mild version and thy complied. My kids loved it. Other places in the area just doesn’t get that fact that children don’t like spicy food. I noticed they were Kosher certified.

Do not go to this restaurant! Food and service were both terrible!!! Spoiled my birthday celebrations!!! Hard to find geographically too. Dirty and poor sanitation.

Between Jan and May 2015, I have tried to go to Mysore Woodlands about 15 times for Weekday Lunch, with ~50% success rate. The times when I am unsuccessful is when the restaurant is NOTOPEN, despite a note on their door saying they are open ALL7 Days 11:30am-closing. After the first 4 rejections, I started to call them before heading over, and delayed my arrival from ~11:45am to after Noon. That did not improve the success rate, nor does trying to figure out if there is a pattern to the days they would be open /closed(e.g. if they were open on a Monday, they were closed the subsequent Monday, etc). When they ARE open, the food is good, and I love the choices of both Sambar and Rasam at the buffet. The made-to-order dosas are delicious and besides the one time where my dosa order was taken and the dosa never arrived(after 15mins), all other times the dosa arrived, fresh and yummy. Their yellow dal is creamy and one of my favorites. I have a love-hate relationship with Mysore Woodlands: Love it when they are open, and I hate it when they are closed for no apparent reason and I get rejected when I try to go. Best advice is to call them before heading over(esp for Lunch) so you do not get disappointed.

While the service isn’t great for normal ordering, the buffet is one of the best I’ve been to. It far exceeds places in Montclair and many in NYC. I’ve been coming here for years and recommend it to anyone.

I’ve been coming here for the last 4 years– I loved it then, I love it now. Warm, homely service. A Good variety and quality of South Indian food. I love ending with their strong South Indian coffee. I prefer their South Indian selection to their North Indian.

Food is good, but the staff is highly unorganized it took way too much time for dish, order is going to the wrong table, complimentary papad is not given to everyone. Order needs to reminded to folks here. If you hv special request like hot water or extra sambar, you better forget abt it.

One of the best for South Indian food. Buffet is not to be missed. Buffet comes with unlimited dosa types. Food has right spice. Not too spicy or not too bland. Will come here often.

Horrible place. Food poisoning after eating dinner. Severe stomach distress and runs. Avoid the place if you want to be healthy. Just visit their restroom to get an idea of the hygiene they practice. Disgusting.

I’ve had the lunch buffet here maybe ten times. They have so many different choices – every chaat imaginable, dosas, uttapas, idlis, saags, naan – which is great if you come here once and then never go again. But no dish stands out! They don’t even offer any of the special dishes like malai kofta or palak paneer in the buffet. All the food is average at best. The service is okay. They’re polite. The inside is very poorly furnished, but hey it smells nice! TLDR: IT’S SOLID. I LEAVESATISFIED. BUTNOTHINGSPECIAL

Super spicy, food wasn’t exactly what I would call special. Service was nothing special. And the ambience was about as normal as humanly possible.

Good dosas. Other stuff is average but you basically go to a south indian restaurants for dosas, right?

This is the best South Indian food I’ve had outside of India. The weekend buffet is really what I tend to look forward to, which is a pretty decent $ 13 – 14 per person. For that you get some chaat and some half-decent North Indian stuff, but where’s they’re really good at is the the idlis, vadas, dosas and sambar plus the Mysore coffee. You get a smaller version of the dosa included with your buffet, which is for when you’re hungry enough to eat a horse. If you’re merely peckish, I’d suggest the regular dosa instead, which is always excellent and very giant! The servers always need to be hailed over because like in every other Indian restaurant, they are milling around aimlessly, but they’re always nice so its never a big deal. The lady at the restaurant told us once that she grinds the sambar powder fresh every day, and after tasting it, I can believe it.

Been here twice, had the dinner buffet both times. Dosas and Uttapams are made to order, you just ask the closest waiter(they taste quite good). The coffee(made with milk, unsweetened) is delicious, As is the tamarind rice. The buffet food is not kept very hot, but it tastes good and there is good variety. Also the price is a bit high. Overall, a very tasty selection of vegetarian Indian cuisine.

We were happy to find this restaurant near us; we usually trek to Islen for this style food. Our family went on a Saturday night; surprisingly the place was empty until just before we left. Service was attentive & the waiter quickly brought a basket of papadam. We ordered a variety of foods for the table — two chaats to start, two curries, a dosa, and an uthappam. All were a great value — well under $ 10 for each dish(and some much less). Sadly, they didn’t have nan or kulcha breads that night(guess the over wan’t working) For desert we ordered gulab jamon & another dish(don’t remember the name). These were ok, but I thought extremely overpriced at $ 3.95& $ 425 for two little balls in each dish. All in all, a good meal, but I’m docking them a star for the overpriced desserts and for the fact that the prices on the menu on their website aren’t the same as the menu in the restaurant.

I’m a fan of this restaurant — and that’s kinda rare coming from me, as I am South Indian. What I like about it is that it’s definitely South Indian — but has some neat twists to it — and the food is pretty decent for the price you are paying. Now really — it only deserves 3.5 stars, but I’m rounding up out of the kindness of my heart. Here’s the deal — lots of traditional South and North Indian dishes(however, it’s definitely run by Southies, and all the cooks seem to be Southies too — so I wouldn’t go here and order Naan and curry — though I’m sure it’s great, it’s just not what I’d recommend). Also a few not so traditional ones — amongst those the spring dosa(lots of vegi’s — a little bit like a spring roll), and a paneer dosa(with a TON of paneer and vegis and spices inside) — both of which we ordered and tasted good. If you order the Spring Dosa — make sure you ask for it mild, b/c it’s pretty darn spicy. The avial(yogurt based broth — LOTS of vegis) was EXCELLENT! I loved it! I had a plain dosa which I thought was pretty darn great too. The sambar and chutney were all good — as were the different types of vada we ordered. The service is weird — there was only one person working the front of the restaurant, and when we first got there, it was empty besides us. COMPLETELYEMPTY. However, after 8 pm(about an hour after we got there) — it was nearly a packed house.

My husband and I have become semi-regulars here over the last year. He’s South Indian so it’s nice to have a place to get good sambar without me having to spend all day making it(and still failing, honestly). The food is really yummy and you can tell it’s made with a lot of care and love. We’ve chatted with the woman who oversees and does a lot of the cooking there and she’s very nice and very dedicated to her cooking methods, which is awesome. The atmosphere can be a little irritating, especially for a first-timer. The waiters aren’t usually very attentive(though they are very polite), so if you need more water you’ll have to flag one down. Also, giant families(like groups of 10 or more) will frequently come in together and act like they own the place, letting their kids run around and bossing the wait staff as if they were they ones employing them. Even with those sort of annoyances, we love the food and we love having our weekend lunch here. Also, to the reviewer that complained that they don’t have naan, naan is a North Indian bread, not South Indian. So it would follow that Woodland’s wouldn’t stock up on naan, since they are a South Indian restaurant.
