Muse Cafe & Tea

Lovely place to park myself for a not-​too-​sweet berry smoothie. Cozy without being cramped. Lots of plugs for charging our accessories.

Muse changed hands earlier this year and things have improved. They have a brief menu of food and smoothies. Coffee is fine and the staff is friendly. Its a fine neighborhood place.
The old Muse was a bit of a mess. They had the most uncomfortable stools and the new owners replaced them. Still the tables are a bit awkward (and fixed to the floor).

Found this place by chance, and boy am I glad I did!
A lovely café that offered everything I was looking for: A warm room on a cold day (many cafes are awfully drafty), coffees, pastries, free wifi and room enough that you don’t feel bad staying a couple of hours with a computer. I also found something I didn’t even dare hope for: the people working there were just so super friendly and nice, it really was a pleasure to stay there.
The menu seems to have changed since most of the reviews here were made. From what I could tell, it is no longer Asian fusion but more Mediterranean in style, although I didn’t have any food, just perused the menu. It looked good, though, lots of nice and inventive vegetarian/​vegan options too.
The pastries were great. The homemade chocolate scone was especially delicious! The coffees we had (cappucinos with regular and almond milk) were good too, although nothing earth-​shattering.
Cool industrial décor, nice wooden tables, and a good and clean bathroom too! The soundtrack was pure 80s, of the A-​Ha, Duran Duran and Simple Minds variety. For me, that is a plus, although it might not be for you.
Will definitely be back, I recently moved to Park Slope and have the feeling this could be my new regular place.

I came for the free wifi and was satisfied with the food and coffee, but I’ve made it my regular writing spot because the staff are such lovely, lovely people.

It was much better as Red Horse café. The (bad) music blares throughout so that you can’t hear anything, even if you’re wearing big Beats by Dre headphones. I asked them to turn it down, and they did, but it was quickly back to a level where you couldn’t carry a conversation or make a phone call.
The drinks are good, but I don’t love the little bit of food I have had here.
There are many better places to get work done in Park Slope. Disappointing transition this place made, though the WiFi is definitely above-​average speed.
I think I’m mostly upset about how load the music was, hurting my ears, while it took a long time for them to turn on the A/​C on a day where it’s 85+ and humid.

Very average place that’s typical park slope.
Came here yesterday for the first time with a friend, just by chance. Had a smoothie with almond milk and fruit. Was about $ 6 and not much larger than a can of soda. Did not taste great and was definitely not worth $ 6.
Pastries looked like they’re pre-​packaged and unappetizing.
Will not return willingly.
Hate the hipster and all-​white vibe.

I really like this little café. They offer free wifi and there are outlets everywhere… and no one cares that you sit and do work for a bit, which is nice. Quiet, good music, not too loud but you can still have a conversation and not feel like you are annoying anyone around you. The food is fresh and there are lots of healthy options. The guys that work here are so incredibly nice and friendly.
The only cons are that the seating is a little uncomfortable, and they are not open at night:(
Otherwise, love it!

Back to five stars! It’s still not quite the Muse Café that I loved (once last request to bring back the mochi!), but there is so much to love about it. They have DEFINITELY been adding onto the menu and getting creative with the options. The smoothie menu is really extensive, the paninis all sound terrific, I love the matcha, the paleo muffins are so good, and so on. I also am addicted to their bagels — especially just the toasted bagel with butter, mmm!
It doesn’t hurt that the employees are SO nice. The guy who works behind the counter gives me extra muffins sometimes, and he’s always really pleasant to talk to!
Highly recommend this café!

Lovely little coffee shop in Park Slope. I like this quite little café on 12^th Street. They have a very good range of coffee and a great service. sadly it seems ‘m always a bit too late in the day for the good baked stuff, as they never seems to have much on offer.

Improving my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Everything in my previous review remains the same except the internet speed. It is pretty good now but I can’t say this will be true when the place is packed.
Only way to go from 4 to 5 stars would be to change out the three legged stool chairs with no backing.

I hope this place doesn’t have anything to do with the band, because they stink! LMAO Just kidding!
Actually, this place is pretty good. I came recently with a friend. I had the pork sandwich, which doesn’t have much pork, but was still pretty tasty. It’s really stuffed with veggies with some pork, not the other way around. The coffee was very good and service was friendly.
Overall, I would return and try something else to eat. The Thai chicken sandwich sounded great and the table next to mine had one. I think that’s what I’ll be trying next.
Free WiFi too

As I was going to pick up a Zipcar I spotted this place on the corner. I waddled my cute little grumpy butt (like you didn’t notice) in here for a black tea to wake me up. The man working here was so soft spoken and friendly, I wanted to cuddle him and protect him from the world.
Maybe if I had more energy… Which brings me to my next point.
I ordered the black tea, which was pre-​brewed, which I do not see often. At first I was skeptical of the quality, but quickly found myself enjoying the tea with every sip. The notes of citrus really brought out the smoky flavor, and it perked me right up (albeit by the time I drank it I was two blocks down, leaving my friend here to fend for himself.)
I did not have a chance to try the coffee, but I would imagine it would be great just going off how their tea and service is — it seems like they really want to take care of their customers.

Always had a predilection for small cafes (not like Starbucks), so glad to see another one in the Park Slope area. Unlike the other cafes in the area, this one wasn’t as crowded, when I visited; providing a suitable environment for studying or just a nice conversation. Needless to say, the coffee was phenomenon.

Favorite café in park slope because 1) free wifi with a few outlets, perfect for when you just can’t get productive at home, 2) all the staff is so incredibly nice and will go the extra mile, «want a second tea bag so it tastes stronger» or «would you like a fork and knife with your muffin because you’re on your laptop», 3) unexpectedly yummy snacks, from gluten free baked goods from kyotofu (closed retail location, but still doing wholesale) to freshly made goods (Taiwanese inspired sweet potato pancakes are amazing, and I’m Taiwanese).
Calm environment with families and people working on their laptops, please stay awesome!

I came in Muse and was shocked by just how darn beautiful and cozy it is in there. The atmosphere was very delightful and relaxed. I absolutely adore their look and how they utilities the space.
I was also surprised by how affordable their prices were. After all it is Park Slope and it is a coffee. However, their prices range from very fair to pretty fair and that is much appreciated.
Their small ice coffee is tasty and comes in a not small cup for $ 2.75. Dunkin’s Donuts small ice coffee is $ 3 and it doesn’t taste very good.
I can’t wait to come back and enjoy this great spot and try all the menu has to offer. I like Muse!

I tried this refreshing iced jasmine tea and delectable veggie sushi. They have really interesting looking tea-​based concoctions and sandwiches.
Can’t wait to come back and study and hang out.

All I can say is — PIPES!!!
Table legs, stools, shelves, hooks are all pipes. I’m really enjoying this style of reuse décor. Very warm and inspiration gathering space while sipping on a tasty beverage.
Menu and selection of teas are extensive and impressive. I didn’t know much on the list and neither did the person who took my order. I got something off the specials list… something like Malaysian Ice, cause I was hankering for some shaved snow type treat. What I got had all sorts of beans, grassjelly and corn. It wasn’t sweet and too much clumped ice to drink. It was not good. This could very well be a 4 or 5 stars for me, but better get something else…

I just walked by the old Red Horse Café (such a missed café!), and I decided to get in the new place: Muse. It’s nice, somehow with the same space this café is now more open and livable. The white walls definitely help.
The atmosphere is the same. People working at their laptops, reading and enjoying a book. Nice seating area, but no more couches.
I got and ice americano and it was excellent. Good job. I just missed the Red Horse famous coffee ice cubes. Oh and one other thing: the price on the billboard have no taxes included! You have to pay a little bit more than what is wrote. Not really smart.

AHHH is this real life?!
My heart was broken when Red Horse café (the former tenant of this spot) closed down, forcing me to walk almost FIVE minutes to get coffee elsewhere (god forbid! think of all the precious calories I’m burning!), but thankfully, Muse has taken over and saved me from all that horrendous footwork, PHEW.
Now, finally hitting this spot when they were open was a bit of a challenge, as the owners and staff are still trying to figure out their concrete hours, so be forewarned that while it says they’re open 7AM — 8PM, those hours are a little «flex» for the time being. Of course, this is perfectly acceptable, given that they’ve been open all of, oh, 7 days or so?
I stopped by on my way home from spin class (perfect right? eat back all those calories burned, duh!) and was elated to finally see the OPEN sign flipped on, hooray! The barista, Will, was a sweetheart, chatting with me the whole time and describing their coffees and various treats (oh, and they are varied and all tasty, indeed).
While I was trying to make a selection of mini shortbread cookies (3 for $ 2, a STEAL!) the owner popped in and very kindly gave me some free samples! Now, you may think that because the cookies were free, that I’d automatically think they’re uh-​maze-​zing, and well, you’d sorta kinda be right (next to hunger, «free» is the best spice, obviously), however, there’s something a bit magical about these little shortbread cookie balls. At first, when you bite into them, the crumb is unexpectedly softer than a typical butter-​based shortbread, but then … there it is … a dark jewel of sweet deliciousness in the center … just a petite dollop of jam in the middle … HEAVENLY! what a lovely surprise for my taste buds!
I also sampled a mini green tea cupcake, which, although not as mind blowing as the shortbread, was delicately flavoured (not too sweet, and with a healthy matcha green tea flavour), and a crumbly swirl of icing (similar to a cookie icing, so not a soft buttercream frosting, per se) on top. The petite treats are all perfectly complimented by the thai coffee blend, which is spicy, bold, and a tad smokey on the palette.
I’ve yet to try any of the luscious and dangerous looking cake slices, but since I’m a neighbour of the spot, I’ll definitely be frequently stopping by (my mouth is happy, my hips are not, c’est la vie!)
