Writing this review as I leave this place and let me tell you it’s amazing! I had the veggie omelette with egg whites and hash browns which was delicious! My husband is a burger lover and he had the southwest burger and said its one of the best burgers he’s had in a really long time. Coming from someone who gets burgers everywhere we go, that says a lot. If you haven’t already give this place a try. If you get a counter seat there’s not wait which is awesome!

Mac’s has been a diner favorite of mine for 30+ years. Breakfast or lunch has never been a disappointment and the food is always tasty, hot and served with a smile. If you live in the area, or have time before your flight to O’Hare, swing by for a great taste of traditional Americana!

I was in need of some breakfast while killing time before my flight, and I stumbled on Mac’s looking for a gas station. Glad I stopped in. This place is a gem and right by the airport. EVERYTHING is made fresh each day. The potatoes are boiled and served perfectly hot off the flat top. The ham is off the bone and delivered each morning. The pancakes are so good, you won’t want to stop eating them. I can’t wait to come back to Chicago and hit this place again and try more of the menu. The staff is incredible, very friendly, courteous and grateful you’re there. Definitely stop in here when in town.

This has to be the friendliest diner in Chicagoland. And the food is excellent diner food. Clam chowder was fresh and silky with plenty of clams and vegetables. I had tuna melt with swiss on perfectly grilled rye. Served open face with usual accompaniments. I saw generous breakfast skillets as well as hearty chopped steak lunch and freshly made sandwiches. If you’re looking for comfort food served with a smile, this is the place.

Today my friends, my wife and I stopped by this restaurant for breakfast. Even before 30 minutes the waitress who served us mentioned about some people waiting and asked us to leave as we finish our breakfast. We stayed 10 more minutes and she came to our table again and said, «Anything you need? If you don’t, have a nice day.» I have never experienced like this. She was so rude. I even felt kind of discrimination on Asians. Terrible experience!!! The food couldn’t be good in this situation.

Tastey food. I’m not from the area but I will stop back again. Took my friend to the airport and wanted to eat lunch before his flight. He had the ham wrap, I had the Greek chicken wrap and my daughter had the corn beef skillet. The waitress was just too sweet I wish she was my mom or grandma. The soup was homemade just needed some extra salt. The food was good too. The service was amazing! No sign was posted saying it was cash only :( So if you go there my P. A CASHONLY Don’t miss out and try it here

This place is an absolute hidden gem! My fiancée and I had brunch here since we live right up the street. I read about the positive reviews and we decided to try it. The service is FAST! It’s cash only so be sure to bring some to pay for your meal. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and efficient. The owner and his brother were there who were also very nice and attentive as well. We were wowed with their customer service and the food was amazing. My fiancée had the spartan omelete and I had the meat lover’s skillet, both delicious! The portions are huge and you will be full when you leave. As we watched everyone elses food being prepared, every menu item looked really good! This is definitely our go to diner over here from now on. Best ever!

Great diner with fantastic food and EXTREMELY pleasant but not over-intrusive/annoying staff. Portions are very generous, prices are fair and the place was clean as a whistle. Love spending my time and money in a place that has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere — can’t wait to go back and try some more items from the lunch side of the menu!

As soon as you walk into this diner you are greeted with a gracious welcome and offered to sit anywhere. Immediately I felt like I walked into my grandmas kitchen. Coffee is good and is always refilled. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure your meal is perfect. The eggs Benedict was tasty with the homemade hollandaise sauce. Bottom line — great food and great service means this place will not disappoint. If you are thinking about going here you have already thought about it too long.

Not far from O’Hare. This place is incredible. Didn’t even have both feet in the door and the owner, a middle aged guy named Mac, was already welcoming us and asking which table we’d like. The waitress was full of life and incredibly attentive, but not in annoying way. The food was excellent and it came out quickly. Overall 5 stars. This is a must stop when looking for something to eat in the area.

Today was my first time at Macs. I had seen it here on Unilocal and decided to give it a try when I woke up hungry. I am so glad I did! I loved the whole diner feel. The food and service were amazing. The prices were great too! I got the meat lovers skillet and it was delicious. There was so much on the menu I wanted to try. I will most definitely be back to try their lunch items and other breakfast dishes too.

This place is decent. Nothing out of these world. I wasn’t impressed by the pancakes but serves its purpose for classic breakfast food. The place is small but we were seated right away. They do not accept credit cards so bring cash. The prices are reasonable. Unfortunately this place did not end my search of my regular neighborhood diner.

Thanks to Unilocal,a helper to find places like this. I didn’t have a big expectation but I was happy with the outcome. I was in the area and looking for a breakfast place with a friend. This place was busy when we came. We were seated at the counter and I didn’t have a problem with that. I had a simple breakfast, eggs, pancake, bacon while my friend had a steak! The service was quick — we can see how fast they work and staff was very friendly.

Eyeballed this place driving by, filed away for future use, today was that day. I especially like the contrast between Mac’s and the Dunkin on the next corner. Macs ain’t running on Dunkin, Macs is chill, think Waffle House. I had a breakfast sandwich so pretty standard fare, we are not breaking any new culinary ground here, but the vibe is cool and the service is quick and friendly. Sure you can shave $ 2.50 off the sandwich price by getting it at McDees down the street, but then you wouldn’t be at Macs. Tip — CASHONLY, ATM at the door.

Gave 3 as I do not know how the food is. I have been wanting to try here for awhile. I came early on a weekend before the rush. :Sigh: Because I was alone I was told I would have to sit at the counter. I did not plan on dawdling if they got busy… So I left

Really solid breakfast. Cool little diner. Very friendly, personable staff. Ham off the bone is pretty amazing, like at grandmas for Easter. Bacon was perfect softness. Pancakes were fluffy style, but a little dry and«dusty», could taste the pancake mix. Only reason I gave a four. Defly worth a stop.

I’d been meaning to try this place since I first passed it while driving down Higgins. It looked like a cute little diner where everyone would know the regulars. That was exactly what it was! I stopped here with my husband one morning and we were quickly seated in the small space. We were in early, so we didn’t have to wait for a seat, but I could see where you might have to. We each ordered coffee and standard breakfast fare — eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, you get the picture. Basic food to wake you up. Nothing fancy. I wasn’t super disappointed, but I wasn’t impressed either. Everything was fine, except the hashbrowns, which definitely needed more salt. Our waitress was nice, and often came back to check on us and top off our coffees. I hate mentioning it because I really wanted to like this little family restaurant, but my husband’s english muffin had mold on it. He noticed it before he took a bite, put the muffin down, and immediately put a napkin over it. The waitress must have seen this because she came over pretty quickly to see what was wrong. My husband showed her the mold, and to her credit, she immediately apologized and asked if he wanted a new one. Definitely a kind and appropriate gesture, but my husband politely declined. Not too long afterwards, we asked for the check. While we didn’t specifically say anything to the waitress asking to take my husband’s meal off the bill, we were a bit surprised to see the bill was at the full total. I feel like they should have at least offered to take a percentage of the bill off due to what happened, but shame on me for not asking. Still, the fact that the english muffin made it out onto a customer’s plate made me a little nervous about eating there again. We haven’t yet returned since that visit, but I’m not completely discounting the restaurant either.

Good experience and a solid 3 stars. We went here early on a Tuesday morning while staying at the Westin O’Hare for a conference. We were seated right away and had a great, friendly waitress bring us coffee and menus. Coffee was good quality and strong. My husband ordered the traditional benny, which came with chipped potatoes as hash browns. He liked everything he got, said it had great flavor and was what he expected. I ordered the greek omelet with a side of ham off the bone and an english muffin. Everything was good qaulity, the ham was tasty and tender, if a little on the salty side. The greek omelet was good, filled with plenty of veggies and feta. It could have had a little additional flavor, but was still a good choice in my book. The english muffin was standard and tasty. The thing we really liked about it all was that nothing was swimming in grease. Despite this being a diner-style restaurant, the food was not greasy at all. I read some other reviews that said cash only, so I went with that in mind. I also love that they open at 5:30 in the morning so early risers like us with a tight timeline can get in and get out.
