25k, 50k and 8hr run… a time to be one with nature. The 2014 race took place in March. This is a time of year when weather conditions can be highly varied. The location is great; this is a TRUE trail run; hills, twigs, mud, water, and even ice and snow covered paths this year. It was a freaking obstacle course(invest in screws or cleats to attach to running shoes or you will ice skate without the skate!). I liked that it was a smaller race crowd. The course was a 25K loop, the 50K had to run the loop twice! I don’t even want to know what happened to the 8 hour people, crazy. The race staff were AWESOME! They were manning the aid stations on either ends of the loop and were great helping refill personal water bottles when my hands wouldn’t cooperate. The aid stations were the best I’ve ever seen, a big difference between ultra runs and plan old marathons is ultra runs stock their stations with M&M’s, licorice, cookies, pb&j, and regular soda galore. The only downside, for the ladies, was they only had one bathroom station that was at the start. Despite the b! tchin’ and moanin’ I did pretty much the entire way, this was an awesome race. I can’t say I will do it again because I am a road running and I didn’t really enjoy the 70% of train that was covered in ice/snow/slush & severely muddy.
