I like Mexican tamales and was delighted to see«non-traditional» tamales on the menu. Black Bean tamale and chicken with squash and stuff tamale. Both were delicious. Mexican chocolate was also delicious.

I had the Memelas with a poached egg — so good. Om nom nom good. My GF had the Chard Enchiladas — there was a lot more tortilla and less flavor(though the enchilada sauce was noice) than I would’ve expected. The tamales look great, but I didn’t get a chance to try them. If you’re looking to be whisked away for fine dining at its best, this isn’t for you, but the flavors are unique, and the food is thoughtfully made. The prices($ 8-$ 12 for an entrée, $ 4 for a tamale) are decent, as well. I’ll be going back for more Memelas.

Oaxacan is a varietal of mexican cooking. they have the usual taco, burritos, tamales, emanandas and some exotic sounding stuff i can’t even pronounce. there are pictures though, mostly of negro mole or something like that. they use gluten free flour and no lard. sampling: — chicken mole negro tamale(3.50) tender chicken in semifirm masa, not silky maybe cuz lard not used seems just a paste of negro mole. seem tasty –butter squash tamale fresh corn, butter squash, etc. tasted ok on the bland side, salsa provided rating: 3.5 stars frijoles refritos: –most items made to order, tamales premade –orders may take awhile.

They catered a party for my mother tonight and it was fantastic. The guests raved about the food and there was a prefect amount — even a little bit leftover, but not excessively so. They cooked memelas to order and brought a lot of pre-prepared banquet style food. One of the items was oven roasted cauliflower and it was a surprising standout dish. The food was all obviously fresh and the staff there to help with the party was fantastic. I would have given five stars if it hadn’t been for the difficulty in communication before the party. Phone calls and e-mails often went unanswered and although the party went off with a hitch, this aspect made it hard to feel confident in the days before the party.

Mexican culinary educators and caterers bringing Oaxacan goods to various bay area farmers makets. They care Mole, Tamales, Empanadas and other goodies. They’ll be opening the Oaxacan kitchen on Cal Ave district of Palo Alto next to Ramona’s.
