The only good thing about this place is the low price($ 6.00 lunch special, great for Palo Alto). Be aware that they won’t accept credit cards for small transactions. Food is average, at best. The service is very unprofessional and inconsistent. I’ve ordered the same lunch special about 10 times and have not received the side items it should come with about half the time(others around me got them). Service is very slow – expect to wait a while even if it’s basically empty. Hostesses can be very rude and ignore diners. Would not recommend.

I’ve been coming here for the last 6 years(going into 7) now and it’s definitely improved since my 2009 review. I used to work in Palo Alto over a year ago and would come here for lunch or dinner regularly. Anytime I would walk in with my friends and/or co-workers, we were greeted by the super sweet owner. She always had my appetizers memorized before I even sat down; hot & sour soup and pot stickers!(she still does) My main complaint here was at the fact that there were more vegetables than meat– which has changed. There’s a good balance, if not more meat in the dishes. For lunch, I usually get the lunch special which comes with hot & sour soup, rice, and choice of entrée– for me, sweet & sour chicken. Very fulfilling. For dinner, I usually order the Szechuan spicy chicken or Mongolian beef with a side of steamed rice. Lastly, the price for lunch and dinner are amazing. Great Chinese food for such a great price. It’s still my favorite Chinese spot and definitely worth the drive over to downtown Palo Alto.

This is not pertaining to the food, as I did not try it. Very rude hostess. I came in and said hello. She looked at me and said nothing. She then went on to acknowledge the people behind me, telling them hello and asking how many were in their party. After that, she went on to grab menus from under me without even saying excuse me. I won’t be going back to this place.

A gem in downtown Palo Alto amidst the typical trendy, overpriced restaurants in the area. $ 6.00 lunch specials! That gets you a drink at the neighboring restaurants. Here it gets you a soup, rice, and tasty entrée for lunch. Food is catered to Western palate, so nothing very adventurous, but it’s tasty and decent portion. I had the chicken with string beans. Yum!

For being a cheap Chinese-American style, mom and pop type restaurant in a very high rent neighborhood, I think this place is fantastic! Not oily Chinese, but made with love, and considering how inexpensive it is, really an amazing place! I brought five dishes to go to a friends house for dinner and we couldn’t stop eating. The mixed vegetables were cooked perfectly, without too much salt or oil. The chow mein and fried rice equally Delicious and The green beans perfectly cooked. The owner lady was super nice and even hand carried the food to me as I was double parked since I went around three times looking for parking on a Thursday night. I’m looking forward to introducing it to my co workers so we can get it delivered for lunch!

Seriously my favorite Chinese restaurant in Palo Alto(and I eat A LOT of Chinese food)! I have NOIDEA why Jing Jing’s has so much hype because the food doesn’t even compare to China Delight. This Chinese food is so much better and gets so little recognition. Everything I’ve had from China Delight has been so good, I never have any left overs to take home. Try their chow mein, it’s the best I’ve ever had! Some of my other favorites that I highly recommend are: Cashew Chicken(white meat), Yu-Shiang Prawn/Eggplant, Broccoli Beef/String Bean, and Prawn Vegetable Delight. I also enjoy their Hot & Sour Soup which is complementary during lunch hours. The prices are very reasonable and you also are given a choice of white or dark meat for chicken orders. The owner is also such a sweet lady who is always so eager to welcome you with her delicious food! If you’re a huge pot sticker fan though, I would recommend Green Elephant or Mandarin Roots.

It’s very quiet and the price range is rather cheap unlike most places in downtown Palo Alto! The food is actually really good! I will be coming here a lot!

The food was average. Palo Alto in general is super expensive so it’s refreshing to have some normal prices. I was looking forward to the complimentary tea most places have. but no. I ordered the lunch special. Sweet and sour Chicken. Small portions for lunch. As a woman I got full but I know if I brought my husband It wouldn’t be enough for even a slim man. I was a little bothered with my service. I asked for wowonton soup instead of hot and sour she told me it was a dollar more. Language was a barrier. and my 7.50 meal turned into a $ 10 meal. I tried to dispute the price but I got frusterated with her lack of english.

Mediocre at best. Bland bland bland. In one dish, we ordered all white meat chicken: it was all water chesnuts and zucchini — probably 1 oz total of chicken in the whole thing. In the other, we specified white meat but they gave us the usual stuff: funky suspect pieces of chicken that make me shudder… ew. Soup was thick with corn starch when it should have been a broth. They also messed up our order. I would not go back. Extremely disappointed. What happened to the good chinese food in Palo Alto?

I review on behalf of my colleagues. Reasonable prices for a good amount of food. Tasty, although we have really high maintenance expectations for Chinese food :)! Good presentation and timely delivery through a 3rd party. Overall, great experience with good food and portion size for the price.

Today was only our first time here but hopefully not our last. The chow mein was AMAZING, and I just had to share! It is among the best I’ve had, and it’s really cheap. Hubby and I both got the combo chow mein(only $ 7!), and the beef in it was perfectly thin and well-cooked. The shrimp was delicious too. There was a good amount of meat, and the flavor was just phenomenal. To top it all off, the food came out really fast. I could eat this stuff for days, but thankfully for my waistline, we live far enough away that I can’t. I’m guessing it was the owner that served us, and she was also incredibly sweet. All in all, a great experience, and we will definitely be back whenever we’re in the area!

I doordash and order a few things on the menu. 1 chicken friend rice 1 pork chow mien 1 Shu chicken 1 cashew chicken As you can tell chicken is my fave. But it was not all to great. #1 they charge you an extra 1.50 if you want white meat, that was a tad annoying so I decided to be cheap and not add that. #2 fried rice had no flavor and the chicken was supper dry. #3 the chow mien was supper oily and drenched in there sauce but the pork that was non existent was tasty and I wanted more. #4 the Shu chicken sucked, if you’ve never tasted it your not missing out. That was my first and last time, supper wet, it’s a stir fry of chicken and vegetables that’s supposed to be eaten with a tortilla that they call pancake … And last but not least the cashew chicken, that was again drenched in there sauce, the cashews were soggy as hell and the chicken was slightly chewy. I hate to me so critical but everything tasted the same. Which was bland, oily and soggy. I hope this helps you not have high expectations on the food. The cost for everything that I order was a total of $ 43 it fed 4 people. The prices are great the food is boring.

I want to start off by saying the food was really good. This place gets 3 stars because they did Not give me the portions we ordered. We ordered through door dash, a delivery service. We ended up with two lunch specials when we only ordered 1. They put my chow fun in lunch container, so I didn’t notice right away because because it doesn’t come with rice like the other specials. Shady business!

It’s a great mom and pa restaurant in Palo Alto that you don’t find any more. Great price and great food for a fast decent lunch and dinner. Definitely a family friendly place. I recommend orange peel chicken, string bean chicken, fish in black bean sauce, west lake beef soup, beef chow fun and many others. Husband cook in the back and wife service in the front. Their daughter is a teacher. I love to support our mom and pa shops.

Spicy broccoli beef had no beef and shredded chicken salad had lots of fried breading, but no chicken. Would’ve given zero stars if it was possible. TERRIBLEANDLOWQUALITY!

Unfortunately, the host took my credit card, ran it through the machine, put her bare unwashed hands into the ice cube chest(up to her elbows), rooted around in there awhile for the buried ice scoop, and then served ice into two customers’ glasses with it. A health and safety issue like that means that I will absolutely never go back to China Delight.

This review is for take out. We ordered ahead of time and picked up. The food was hot and ready when we wanted it. Parking in downtown Palo Alto is always terrible but was especially bad near here. Food: 4⁄5 Most of it was good. The chow mein was a little on the oily side and the portions were smaller than expected but the good was delicious! We ordered: — Yu shiang eggplant 4.5÷5 — chicken fry rice 4⁄5 — sseschuan crispy chicken 4⁄5 — sizzling beef 3.5÷5 — prawn vegetable delight 4.5÷5 — combo veggie chow mein 4⁄5 — spring rolls 3⁄5 The prawns and the eggplant were our favorites. The only reason why the eggplant didn’t get 5⁄5 was because the spicy eggplant at Oceanic SF is amazing. The price is actually not bad either. All of this food was $ 65.95 plus tip. It was more than enough good to feed me and my friends for ladies night plus leftovers.

Quick, Delicious and Economical Chinese Food! Our party of 4 came here for lunch on a Wednesday. 3 of us ordered something from the lunch menu and the other ordered the chow mein. I ordered the green beans with beef. The owner lady took our order and brought us water, then shortly after brought us hot and sour soup with some fried wonton skins. The hot and sour soup was really good and the wonton crips were done perfectly. There were already a few other parties in the restaurant before us so it took a bit before the food came to us, but it was a reasonable wait. The lunch crowd got really busy so getting the check and fortune cookies took a while, but the credit card slip came back fairly quickly. The price for the food was very economical. It was a good amount of food — rice, soup, wonton crips and your choice of entrée. The food was tasty. My coworker said the chow mein was bomb! I definitely appreciate this small family run restaurant among all of the fancy over-priced restaurants a couple blocks away. I’ll definitely be back here.

I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Beef Chow Fun(both lunch specials) over the phone and it was ready for pick up in 10 minutes. The portions sizes aren’t huge like most Chinese food places but it was decent. There isn’t anything special about the food other than it’s cheap and fast

TAKE-OUTREVIEW Excellent fish in wine sauce dish. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was so good, I had to save it. Not quite sure what I’m going to do with it, but it was so good that I couldn’t throw the rest out. However, I didn’t feel that the portion size was worth $ 10. I ordered the sizzling rice soup due to the positive reviews. Honestly, this was probably the blandest sizzling rice soup I’ve had. It wasn’t bad… it just wasn’t great. The lady at the counter was sweet. Quick service; I was in and out of there with my food in under ten minutes. I’d say this is more of a take-out restaurant than a dine-in.
