I loved the cold chicken + potato salad — I think it’s a side dish. I came back today to get more, but they didn’t have it, so I tried the meatball and avocado wrap, which was delicious. I like meatballs on the softer side — this was a perfect texture and tasty — not too salty and not too bland. Avocado is a surprising accompaniment to meatballs but it was good. I also like that they wrapped it in 2 halves — I ended up eating one half for lunch and one for dinner.

I really enjoyed the food. Both russian«borsch» and«pirogki» tasted authentic and tasty. I am definitely going to visit more often when I am in the area and will also try to order from them. Note that the café is a bit hard to find, one needs to go around Aol building, the entrance is facing away from the street.

We came looking forward to check out the café at 12:15PM on a Wednesday. It was closed, no explanation given, opening hours indicated that it should be open. We were disappointed. Food looks good and we hope to be able to come back again and check it out.

I love their food! I ordered several times fish balls and they were soooo delicious. I even took some of their food on plane when I was traveling. Even being cold it tasted very delicious. Thank you, Irina, for your flexibility and individual approach to picky customers! :)

Salmon sandwich, nicely cut in half and each half wrapped separately for ease of saving some for later. They were generous with the smoked salmon and Avacado on sandwich. Could’ve used something salty(eg capers) and/or a dressing on sandwich but you can self-serve condiments at a nearby station in the café…

I work in the building where the café is and so I go here pretty often. I love their coffees. Turkish coffee is the best. Many of my colleagues crave it. I also order their custom preparation(Ukranian/Russian influence) every now and then. I really like them. Pirozhkys are great. They also have snacks like chips and salsa for grabs. The curry sauce on the table is pretty nice. Their chickpea sandwich is a good lunch sandwich. Cabbage rolls are yumm. Customer service has gotten lot better than when I first visited this café a year ago. Nice people and nice food. Try them out.

This review is about a catering corporate lunch that our company ordered from«Beet Café». First of all they asked us a lot of questions about our team food preferences and what kind of dishes we love/want to try. We discuss every dish until the menu was completed. Keeping in attention that some of the people may be vegetarian, they kindly propose to make the same dishes for those guys, because from their practice if the vegetarian dishes is different from the regular one, there is a big chance that non-vegetarian would like to taste it and veggie people will stay hungry. On the lunch event day«Beet Café» catering arrived exactly on time. Everything was packed properly and, especially the main hot dish, because they bring a special electric pan that can keep food warm for a long time. Each tray was a sign with the name and composition of the product, so everyone can make sure what’s inside. All special spices, sauces, gravies etc. was packed in a small containers so people can add the desirable amount or not or not add at all, which was a really smart idea! The food was very fresh, looks, smells and tastes great! Everyone on our team was really excited to have such lunch. We had: rice with chicken(Plov), potato salad(Oliv’e), baked white fish with veggies, assorted veggies stew on the bed of arugula, Greek quinoa salad, potato pancakes(delis!) and fresh herbs and veggies salad with boiled eggs. Taking in consideration that our team is very international(we have native American, different Asian, Indian, Hispanic Latino people) — it is not easy to satisfy everyone’s taste and make all team happy with the lunch. But«Beet Café» totally met this goal by doing such amazing job! Thank you so much, guys for having a great experience! Kiwi Crate team.

I love this place. Their turkish coffee will delight you, they have nice sweets and great wifi too. This café is not an obvious choice since it’s located within a coporate building but it is absolutely worth trying it out.

Read an article about this and went to try it out today. I gather it’s pretty new. The short of my experience is that there is potential here if they make some changes, but as it stands I wouldn’t go back. We got the two kinds of pirozhki they had today(cabbage and beef), borscht, veggie shawarma wrap, and baby kale + beet salad. FOOD — Cabbage pirozhka was my favorite part of the meal. This was good. Beef was not so good; needed more binding and flavor. They’re smallish but hearty. Portion felt right for the price. — Borscht was really bland. It came with sour cream on the side. After it was served, my grandfather asked if it came with bread and only then did they say it did and brought some out. We expected an eastern european style bread but it was just sliced whole wheat. Portion was pretty large. — Veggie shawarma wrap was fine. I don’t really get the name(it’s nothing like a shawarma), and it was nothing special. After adding some of the masala sauce — which was really good — it came more alive. Portion was huge. — Kale + beet salad I have yet to try as the portions of borscht and the wrap filled me up. It looks good, though. OTHERTHINGS — It’s counter service. Which I like as a general rule. But they need to optimize it for this kind of arrangement. For example, put out a big thing of water and water glasses and make that self-serve. Have multiple menus easily available. Have the menus actually list all of the food that you have to offer. — Service was friendly, but slow and inefficient and confusing. It was unclear whether to go up to the counter for food and drinks or whether it would be brought out(it was a mix). — Consistency in plating. Some items came in normal servingware(like actual bowls for the borscht and glasses for water, plastic basket for the wrap), whereas others came in disposable or to-go containers(pirozhki and bread on paper plates, salad in to-go container). — Unclear whether we were supposed to bus our own table or not(we did). — There were three waste bins with no labels as to whether it was all trash or if there was recycling/compost.

A public café inside a corporate building seems like a strange idea, but this place is worth a visit. Don’t be intimidated! I split the baby kale and beet salad and a vegetarian wrap with a friend. Both were delicious, very fresh, and generously portioned. I especially liked the wrap with beets, quinoa, and lots of crunchy vegetables. The salad had avocado and feta on the side. Seating was somewhat limited inside, so we found a spot outside in the sun. The day we were there, there was free water flavored with fruit, as well as chips and salsa. Yummy! I hope they do well here.

Walked in and nobody was there behind the counter. Few moments later of looking around confused a man with green shirt is behind me and I ask if he knows if they’re closed he said no, not introducing himself as someone who worked there or asked what I wanted. I said I wanted a smoothie and proceeded to look at the menu. Ordered a «fruit smoothie.» Took a few minutes to make and so I was on my phone checking emails and when it was done he didn’t even tell me until later and seemed annoyed and said«your smoothie?» Thanks. Made me feel unwelcomed the entire time. It was 3:30pm and not a single other person there either. Also, the smoothie sucked and was so not worth $ 5. Not sure how you mess up a fruit smoothie but it just tasted odd. I’ll take my money elsewhere next time since they can’t be bothered with customers I guess.

Tucked away in an office building, this café is owned by a nice Ukranian couple. They do a small amount of their heritage’s cuisine but by necessity they do basic American fare too. They serve Vertigo coffee which i got a great iced version. Also got a refreshing hibiscus tea. Im hoping they expand their Ukranian selections as they progress. Hopefully some great eats to come…

Sorry I don’t understand… is this an AOL only café? If so that would explain the fact that as an outsider its impossible to find

I got the beet sandwich. It was on dutch crunch. It had goat cheese. It was really good. I now a big fan of beets. There are tables indoors and out, but I did not eat at the café. I walked home with my beet sandwich and ate it. There is no meat in this beet sandwich yet it is very filling. There is also quinoa salad that comes with the beet sandwich. I am a bigger fan of potato salad when I eat a sandwich but the quinoa was pretty good with the beet sandwich and had fresh cherry tomatoes in it. I am going to get another beet sandwich later this week or next week. I don’t know where else to get a beet sandwich so I will probably come back to Beet café. If Beet café is anything like the previous café tenants(the Grind it was) they should serve great coffee and lattes. I feel pretty lucky this place has opened near my house. Next time I will call in so when I arrive my beet sandwich is ready. It took about 3 – 5 minutes to make the beet sandwich.

Tried the beet, arugular, quinoa and avocado salad. Quantity, quality and price of food was excellent. Also, great service albeit a little slow for a lunch place. This café has other things like coffee, smoothies and Pirozhki which make it a pretty unique lunch place in the Cal Ave/Page Mill area. The non-intuitive part is its location which is inside the AOL building and entrance is from the parking lot. I expect to go here many times!

This awesome café is just getting started and could use support from locals! First off, their savory pastries are AWESOME, ex. homemade piroshki and puff pastry pizzas. They also have some healthy organic lunch options. I’m not a coffee drinker, but I like their herbal teas and specialty drinks(homemade kombucha.) The owners are friendly. If you are in the California Ave. area, drop by and give them a try!
