It’s a must stop for those who love every thing modern and kitchy about Palm Springs. The owner has a family history in Palm Springs that is all things MCM. Nice gal, great shop.

I discovered Just Modern last winter(2012) when I came to Palm Springs… although I didn’t know it, when I came in with my parents, we met the owner Chris. As avid fans of modern design, this store was right up our alley. Imagine my surprise when I returned a few weeks later with a friend to purchase a hanging planter I’d seen on when I was in with my parents and Chris remembered me. Flash forward twelve months to December 2013… I found out Just Modern had moved next door to a larger space(yay)… and when I walked in, I was quickly greeted by Chris who remembered me AGAIN! No joke – it had been 12 months since I was last in the store and I was greeted as a store regular. Same great stock… well, actually, more of the same awesome design. I spied a gorgeous fire pit that I simply must have… alas, I must move to a space that will accommodate it, but I look forward to returning and giving Just Modern more of my business. This store is not the lowest price for modern furnishings, but, you get what you pay for. The pieces here are beautiful and well made from quality materials. These aren’t the same old pieces you see in every other store either. If I lived closer(and had the budget), I would have many more of their beautiful items in my home. Worth the 2 hour drive from LA! Stop in and visit for their great merchandise and friendly service.

I think Venus B. must have this store and its owners confused with another place/other people, because Chris and Stewart are AWESOME people. I’ve been in the store several times and never have I seen them even slightly be less than 100% friendly, genuine and helpful to everyone that comes in, not just potential customers. And to say the store is overpriced is quite mad, seeing as they carry stuff that no other store carries. There’s also the fact that Just Modern sells one-of-a-kind artwork, so how can she say the products are: 1) overpriced when there’s nowhere else to compare it to; and 2) «just cheap reproductions» when they’re original artworks? Sorry, you’re not shopping at Walmart or IKEA. You’re shopping at a store/gallery where the owners put painstaking thought into each and every item they choose to carry in their store and it shows. Keep up the good work, Chris and Stewart!

They have some really unique pieces. The prices are reasonable and the service is outstanding! During a recent shopping trip to Palm Springs this was by far my most pleasant experience!

Whether my 1st review was filtered or not, I was there on 10/2/12.I stand by my word! Great Place, Love the Furniture as well as their several smaller items(the couch I wanted badly, I don’t think would have fit in my car:) but I got a great bag! Owners couldn’t be kinder, more helpful and any more charming than they were!

Wow… an earlier review from Venus B is waaaaay off base and should be removed. Sounds like sour grapes for some strange reason. Just Modern, open only since last May, has earned a stellar reputation in Palm Springs… not to mention a stellar reputation for their webstore that the owners started well before they opened a retail store. I’ve been in there a lot since they’ve opened, have purchased items for myself and for house gifts and have happily sent in local friends and out of town visitors. I have NEVER experienced anything like what the previous reviewer stated and have NEVER heard that from anyone in town, at any time. In fact, it’s just the opposite. One of the owners, Chris Mobley, is not only quite adept at his store’s social media(just look it up on facebook, if anyone doubts) but also spearheads the website and social media coordination for Modernism Week and the development and product design of the new MODSHOP, of which all profits benefit Modernism Week and of which I am a Board Member, full disclosure. So Chris very well knows what he’s doing, he’s one of the nicest and most active store owners in Palm Springs AND he gives back big time to his community with major volunteer contributions. I’m not even going to pretend I’m anything other than a fan of Just Modern and very happy that a store of this caliber has joined the other amazing stores in the Uptown Design District. If anyone doubts this, they just simply need to stop by and see for themselves.

Just Modern in Palm Springs is one of the coolest, hippest, most original stores in the highly creative and original Uptown Design District in Palm Springs. If you’re looking for a cool coffee table book and a coffee table to put it on this is the place to go. They have a line of furniture that is exclusive to their store with original designs by a fresh modernism design couple in Denver. Can’t wait to slowly transform our loft with their cool stuff. An added bonus when visiting was meeting Mary Wexler(daughter-in-law of famed Palm Springs architect Donald Wexler). You should visit this store — you won’t be disappointed — Store owners Chris and Stewart will make sure of that!

I find my curiosity piqued when on Unilocal I see 5 stars from some and 1 star from one. I decided to investigate. In keeping with the look and feel of Palm Springs’ Uptown Design District, I found Just Modern’s merchandise upscale and retro. In case I’m not being clear: it’s upscale. It’s art. Fans of Ikea, discount furniture warehouses, and swap meets won’t find the price points they seek, it’s true. Even more bewildering: How it is that anyone found these guys unhelpful or impolite, I can’t imagine. One of the owners even dissuaded me from buying something because he felt that the chair that interested me wouldn’t meet my needs, and he made a suggestion from another local retailer. Normally I would say when in doubt, trust the grammatically correct reviews, but in this case it’s not even necessary to do that. Unilocal veterans can smell clueless/vindictive(personal?) when they see one. If you like retro-fabulous furniture, check this place out. It’s hard to walk out without something new.

$ 160 for a plastic chair… If the owner was polite and not down right rude it’s slight comfort might be worth it. Merchandise is grossly over priced for the lack of quality in service. Interesting merch. but really just cheap reproductions that are ridiculously priced to gouge vacationers. I walked in yesterday on the way home from the Dr.‘s, curious about the outdoor fire pits. The owner was rude off the bat, unwelcoming and dismissive. I asked him about their social media because I saw NO signage on business cards or windows to indicate they could be found. Owner insisted his co-owner and he were Social Media MASTERS. And they felt no need to advertise it. OKAY… It’s rare I give a bad review but really the arrogance and disrespect was too much to just sit back and swallow. If they treat me like that then I can’t imagine how out of towners just browsing must be treated. And it will not be tolerated being as the snow birds will be arriving next month from all over the world.
