I was so happy to find this place, loved it! Great food, fantastic service and such a pleasant atmosphere, very nostalgic. What a disappointment when I found out that it got burned. Will miss them so much. lease, inform when you find out when it will reopen again. Is there some recommendation for a restaurant similar in style to Bernie’s? Please, give an advice.

Very sad news! Bernie’s experienced a complete loss because of an electrical fire in the ceiling of the dining room. It was Christmas Day. I dined here many times. They raised the bar, on food and service. My friends, Geoff and Rand, who owned it, are devastated, but remain positive, and will quickly rebuild the establishment. Even though it’s a long and arduous task, they remain positive. They have placed their employees at other establishments, and continue to value their customer base. They promise to keep us updated about the progress.

Never got the chance to try this place as it burnt down on Christmas day. It was highly recommended but unfortunately it is a place we will not get to try. Sad for the employee’s and the owner’s anytime of year but on Christmas day, even sadder. I hope they rebuild and I get the chance to try this place sometime in the future.

Food is DELICIOUS!!! Very nice intimate setting. Music is really nice. The servers n staff are very nice and enjoy wining and dining you and making you feel like family. Great place to enjoy with friends or on a date night even on a solo night!

I read and heard raves. You couldn’t ask for a more friendly staff and greeting. The drinks, as advertised, were AAAA! It could be me but I found the menu lacking however. There were not a lot of choices that jumped off the page to me. The Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail was good except the prawns were not completely thawed and the sauce too hot, and I am a fan of heat. Ambiance, and good time is assured. If you are a strict food person, it is good but not great. As previously stated, it could be me.

What a welcome addition to Palm Springs. It’s everything a classic Palm Springs restaurant should be — and even though it’s only been there a year(so the excellent waiter told us) it has the feel of vintage PS. Shared a perfectly cooked steak and an endive salad, two martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives and left feeling cheerful and fulfilled! Loved the piano bar as well. Will definitely return!

Bernie’s is absolute perfection! From the moment the valet opened the door to the moment he said goodbye to us this place nailed everything. The ambiance is so relaxing, yet fun with the piano playing fun music in the background. We were greeted very warmly as soon as we walked in the door and immediately taken to our table where our waitress immediately came over to introduce herself. She was amazing throughout the meal. Always present when we needed a refill or had a question, but not checking in on us every 2 minutes. Now, the food. We started with the wedge salad, which was excellent! My boyfriend had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. His dish came with a potato side dish that was to die for good! I had the prime rib. This was seriously the BEST prime rib I have ever had. Seriously. We ended our night with the mud pie brownie which was so, so good. You just have to come here! My boyfriend and I both agreed that we will never be able to come to Palm Springs without having at least one meal here. The food and the service were absolutely perfect!

My husband and I went to Bernie’s this past Saturday night with my parents. We were in the desert just for the weekend and of course wanted to find a great spot to have some drinks and listen to some music. Well Bernie’s is that place! This was our first visit and I can promise you that it won’t be our last. We just hung in the bar — starting at the bar itself then snagging one of their high top tables once one opened up. The staff was just phenomenal. Mazio was our server and he sure does live up to his name! He provided amazing, phenomenal, entertaining, and just all around fantastic service. This was his 2nd night on shift at Bernie’s, and you could not tell! He made our night that much better! We will definitely request to be served by him next time we are in town. And, the music was great! Rat-Pack era music… a piano player and sax. It was great because you can sit in the bar, enjoy the music, and still have a conversation with the other people at or around your table. They music is loud enough, but not too loud that you can’t enjoy the company you came with. And, the food was great! We ddin’t order dinner as we were just snacking — but we did get the Charcuterie board(fantastic), some bar chips(delicious), Brussels sprouts(amazing), soup(very tasty), and some oysters(very appetizing)! Oh, and the cocktails were great! My only complaint is that I don’t have a restaurant near me like Bernie’s. All and all — our new favorite spot. Can’t wait to return!

Romantic, perfectly dark, classic yet eclectic, super cozy lounge that is borderline kitschy in a good way, with attentive staff, impeccable service, stiff drinks, and live music with just the right about of unintentional cheese, free of irony. Of course, it’s not cheap. If you are on a budget, I recommend the good pours and tasty bar food in the lounge. The homemade chips are good, and the soft bendy ones are life-changing, as the gay guy beside me purred. Ok, if I wasn’t such a fan of Anthony Bourdain I would have walked out upon receiving my «something something gem of the desert or something» salad which was two soggy pieces of lettuce. I mean, they tasted great, but it’d probably piss off your dad. The menu is a bit limited— only three cuts of steak(Butcher’s Cut, Prime Rib, New York), but my «Between the Sheets» was great– tender oxtail ragu, homemade ricotta, and the pasta was the al dentest ever. Yes, the gays and old people love this place. Gay AND Old — fuggedaboutit! Gary Oldman would like it. A Gay Oldman would LLLLLL-OVEIT!

Went to Bernie’s on a Wednesday night to celebrate my partner’s birthday. It was just the two of us and it was a perfect, intimate location. The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in the door. The two-person combo was jamming away on classics immediately inside the door. The reflected Bernie’s logo on the sidewalk in front of the place was a very nice touch. They even had a red carpet leading you in the front door! Every part of the décor was well thought out, down to the light bulbs and the salt shakers. It was like Las Vegas in the 1960s but not at all kitschy. The volume inside the restaurant was calm; there was no problem carrying on any conversation, although the place was only half full. They have a lot of outdoor seating that looked inviting, but we sat indoors. On the way into the restaurant, I briefly mentioned to the maitre ‘d that it was my partner’s birthday. Within 45 seconds after we were seated(with no delay, I might add), someone came over to our table and handed my partner an envelope. It had his name hand-written on the cover and a hand-written happy birthday card inside. It was very sweet. Later in the meal, the waitstaff brought over 3 large scoops of ice cream in a bowl and they all sang«Happy Birthday.» Even sweeter and very romantic. There were at least three other birthdays in the place that night and everyone got the same treatment. To start, I had the cheesy potato soup, elegantly presented in a huge bowl with a deep well. It was very delicious and filling. My partner had the grilled endive salad which was unique and delicious. He had the famous prime rib with a huge baked potato. It was a giant slab of beef, perfectly cooked. He was still nibbling on it two days later! I had the meatloaf made with Wagyu beef, with potato purée, a fried egg on top, and a very unique onion ring salad(very original!). It was delicious and quite filling. We didn’t have any alcohol, so I cannot comment on any of the drinks that are served at this terrific place. I used to enjoy Davey’s Hideaway but just love Bernie’s. It’s really special!

The ambiance is where it’s at. Very Rat Pack, very old school Palm Springs vibe… I LOVE it. I love the big red leather booth, dim lighting, live music, with a hand-shaken GIGANTIC martini that’s poured table side by your waiter sort of vibe. I must say our first course was good, but my special of the night was gross. They did bring me a new dish and it was delish. But, I hate having to complain about dry, fishy, under-seasoned fish when the waiter said it was super delish and flavorful, yada yada. Overall, we left happy and drunk & it was a nice summer night walk back to the Ace Hotel.

It’s like stepping back in to time, a really really good time that is. We made reservations here for 530 and arrived a little early but no problem. We went with the first seating menu which came with a wedge salad(excellent), Prime Rib,(excellent) and sorbet(sweet). What a Meal, what a price. The Mrs. went with the Cadillac Margarita and I was convinced to have the Martini. Both cool and refreshing. Waiter was on point, I wish I had remembered his name. Hostess very nice, explained the menu and wine list as if she had all the time in the world. Intimate place but fills up quickly. If ever in the neighborhood we will be back. Thank you Bernie for a wonderful evening.

SOLID5 star experience for yours truly. BELLE T. discovered this place and made reservations for my bday dinner. It was beyond my expectations. I’m not usually fond of trying someplace with less than 100 Unilocal reviews, but since she found it and it was her treat, naturally I went for it. I am glad I did. The place is a throwback to the Sinatra/Rat Pack era and I love it. There’s a red carpet entrance and it leads you into a very intimate, dimly lit restaurant with a pianist and lounge singer serenading you the entire time you are there. We were greeted and seated promptly by a very gracious and professional hostess. Our wait staff were excellent, especially our waiter. He explained every menu item in detail, which meant he takes the time to learn the menu — big tip coming your way sir! We had the bone marrow and burrata cheese appetizers — both amazingly good. This was my first time trying marrow and it was super rich, fatty, and flavorful. It does take some adjustment because it’s so buttery, but if you like the fatty parts of a good steak, you will love bone marrow. The burrata cheese came with beets and some kind of purée — very fresh and palate cleansing. This was also a first for me and it went well. For our salads, we both had a wedge salad. My first thought when I saw it was«I’m gonna need more dressing». Oh, bless my heart. Turns out, the dressing is neatly packed away inside the leaves and once you cut it open, BAM, all that blue cheese goodness comes out and ends up socializing with the roasted tomato chutney and the crisp pancetta. This equals a block party of flavor in your mouth. That wedge was the best wedge salad I’ve ever tasted, ever. For our entrees, we both had the prime rib. O.M.G!!! Up until this point, The San Franciscan has been my spot for prime rib — well, they are now 2nd(don’t tell them!) behind Bernie’s. The meat was cooked to perfection — perfectly seasoned all the way through with the meat to fat ratio being just right for our tastes. It comes with a HUGE baked potato(which also comes with butter, sour cream, pan crisped pancetta, and chives), horseradish, and au jus. They pour the jus over the meat and then give you some on the side for dipping. Oh how I love them. I also had an apple martini and Belle had a lemon drop — damn good martinis. DAMNGOOD! For dessert, since it was for my bday, we had cream puffs a la mode. If I recall, there was a drizzle of raspberry purée — which gave a perfect balance of tart and sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and I HIGHLY recommend this place. If I could give 10 stars, I would.

As others have noted, I can attest to the classy& comfortable feel of Bernie’s. The nightly live jazz is an awesome touch with the band playing by the bar adjacent to the main dining area, ie. excellent acoustics and no intrusion into conversation. As is the case with any RW, there’s always some level of trepidation about getting a less than stellar meal inconsistent with a restaurant’s normal caliber. Thankfully that largely wasn’t the case this time — the exceptionally fresh burrata with beets and beet purée was delicious from start to finish. Likewise, I thoroughly enjoyed the tender, flavorful maple glazed duck breast from the mains. The minor letdown was the desserts as my salted caramel pot de crème became unbearably sweet after a few bites. Our server did a nice job with the wine service and being attentive yet unobtrusive at the same time. So while the regular prices are certainly above average, Bernie’s would definitely be worth a try for its combination of quality food, atmosphere and music.

Wow! What an experience. The food is incredible, service impeccable. One of the best meals we’ve ever had! We started with Dirty Martinis, and the delish in house stuffed olives. For appetizers we had escargot(slow pokes lol) and the burrata. Dinner was Bolognese for me and the New York New York for my friend. These were amazing! Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert. But did have a digestif with the owners. Grab a tootsie pop on the way out. Such an adorable touch. Seriously, our only regret was eating too much to be able to have dessert. Live band and fun rat-pack atmosphere. This is the Palm Springs I wish I could have experienced decades ago. Jut the first visit of many many more. Go here! You won’t regret it!

My wife and I were immediately greeted by the host and seated in a romantic, yet very comfortable booth. The wait staff were top notch and that was part of the reason we came here after reading previous Unilocal reviews. The other part was of course, the food. We had a delicious charcuterie board of various meats(could’ve used some sort of cheese), the New York, New York steak(prepared perfectly) and the special, marinated/grilled Opah(was awesome). You certainly get what you pay for and then some. I know some have complained about the higher prices, but the service alone was worth every penny. They will go the extra mile for you! I would add that I was expecting to hear the«60’s Rat-Pack» type music, which would have fit the restaurant’s style/décor better than the soft 80’s music. Add some Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin to the repertoire, ditch the midi-keyboard samples and you’ve got a really classy lounge. Overall, loved the place and we’ll back some day.

There’s a new hot spot to put on the short list of great restaurants and bars in Palm Springs… Randomly cursing down hwy 111 we spotted a sign for a new restaurant/lounge that had just opened… Welcome to Bernie’s! Bernies Lounge is located in the space that was once occupied by Davey’s Hideaway which in it’s own right had it’s own cult following. The two owners who are quite fabulous and beyond warm and welcoming Rand and Geoff told me the story of how they used to dine at Davey’s every friday evening and after it closed had tried to acquire the space for sometime! After lots of negotiations they became the proud owners of the fabulous space that would soon become what I think will be a Palm Springs legend! Seriously though — Palm Springs is full of mediocre bars and restaurants. The owners are two major foodies who appreciate fantastic food but also demand exceptional service, add in a young hot shot chef and you have a winning combination. Their menu is fabulous and really represents what Palm Springs once was! They feature a absolutely fantastic and perfectly cooked prime rib which is a rare find in Palm Springs(trust me I’ve looked), the best chopped salad I have ever had and their slow pokes aka Burgundy Escargot, Herb Butter were cooked to perfection. The roasted Cauliflower was caramelized which produced this beautiful nutty flavor — this kids isn’t your moms cauliflower! The rest of the menu looked fabulous and I can’t wait to come back and try it all! They have a pretty extensive wine list and my Martini was insanely good! Weather your a Palm Springs local or planning a visit, Bernies should be apart of your Itinerary!
