I went over to check out the place after writing a few comics myself. Never knew the desert had a comic store. They seriously had everything! I’ve never seen such a collection of comics! I will definitely be coming back again!

I’ve been going to Desert Oasis Comics for a little over three years, and while I love it, it does have a few problem. Also, being the only Comic Book shop within 100 miles, it’s really hard to make a proper comparison. But being someone who’s been to Comic Book stores from Los Angeles to New York, I have to say that Desert Oasis Comics has proven itself to be a healthy competitor. From the minute you enter the store, you are greeted by one of the many staff members who never have a frown on their face until they have to close the store. They are always excited to meet new people and to show the world the amazing joy that is comic books. Did you see the new Marvel movie in theaters? You can easily get caught in an hour long conversation just by mentioning it. Sid, the owner, is very knowledgeable, with over 40 years of comic book history, he will set you right up with whatever you need. The collection of comic books is a bit on the uneven side though. When it comes to new comics, the really popular ones usually sell out the day they come in, but they always have a strong selection of new comic books. While they won’t have every back issue, I usually found whatever I was looking for and then some. Vintage comic books is where you might not get your fix though as there is an entire row of 90s comic books, and while many people will enjoy some of the comics from that decade, it often leads people empty handed. Then there is the Gold and Silver Age Comic Books, which are in a small location in the back, and are updated constantly because the prices are amazing. You can honestly pick up the first three years of Archie’s TMNT for about $ 200, and it’s not like they are in bad condition, they look like they were taken care of my someone who loves and cherishes comic books, which I forgot to mention. The entire store is one whole collection by the owner of Desert Oasis Comics, Sid himself. While collectors and completist may not find the First Appearance of Venom, mostly because it was already bought, those interested in walking in, picking up a comic, and having a good time will find that here. One very harsh negative though is the size of Desert Oasis Comics, sadly. While the location is amazing, it’s right behind El Paseo, it leads to a cramped Comic Book store where you can only pray for more space. While there are a lot of comic books, there’s more than the space can handle, and while most of the time there are only two or three customers in at a time, the narrow passageways still aren’t comfortable. That being said, this is one of my favorite comic book stores that I always come to every Wednesday to pick up my comics. Even then, I would much rather have Desert Oasis Comics be in the small location that it is in right now, than some large warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Everyone from small children to children at heart adults come in and bring a positive vibe that make you never want to leave the store. You stand outside before the store opens just so you can pick up the new comics and read them with friends. Even when it’s closing hours, you find a cheap comic that you want to pick up with cash just so you can stay in store for another five minutes. The store is open to everybody, and welcomes everybody.

I can’t say enough good things about this shop. Sure, it’s the only option in the desert but it’s a great one. Sid is fantastic and is always helpful. Every time I enter, he’s quick to greet me and offer whatever aid he can by asking what I’m looking for and informing me of the best pulls fir te week. He’s even helped construct a great pull list for me and helped catch me up on titles and events I’ve missed. The prices are fair, usually whatever is marked on the comic. And if there isn’t something present in the shop that you’re looking for, he’s always willing to order it for you. He supports local artists and has frequent contests which are always fun to participate in. Honestly, it’s great to support the local shop and if you haven’t stopped by yet, I implore you to.

Great shop! Greeted the moment we walked in and offered assistance. Staff and patrons are friendly. If only all comic shops were this nice! Will be back again.

Cool shop to visit. A lot of single issues, but wish they had more trades. On the upside, if they do not have a certain comic you want. They can order it, pay half first and when it arrives you can pay the rest. The management and staff are really cool. If your a newbie to comics, they can assist and give you recommendations on what to read so you can find the comics you will love to read.
