William Childs Hospice House

This is the most peaceful, serene facility I’ve ever seen. The building and grounds are stunning.
The caregivers however, were a mixed bag. Some of the people were very caring, but more than one nurse tried to saddle me with guilt for bringing my aged Aunt to die at their facility. I had to speak to the attending physician who told me to ignore those nurses. It was a very painful, very bad experience. I wouldn’t go there again.

The William Childs Hospice House provided the most caring and comforting experience for my Dad and our family.
Dad was 96 and during his last days he had the best care from the doctors and staff. We would come in during all different times and each time Dad was being made comfortable. There were volunteers who would sit and hold his hand and read to him, even when he was not visibly conscious. Hand made blankets were wrapped around him so when we came in, it looked like he was at home.
The facility is beautiful and peaceful.
Many thanks to the volunteers and staff for making Dad’s final days peaceful and his family content that he was in a loving home during his last days.

Finding a place where a loved one will spend his or her final days is difficult, to say the least. The William Childs Hospice House was on the top of our list for two reasons: its proximity to Palm Bay Hospital and the fact that it does not refuse patients who do not have insurance.
William Childs is a non-​profit hospice, run entirely on donations by generous community members and the families of former patients. Because of its non-​profit status, William Childs does not refuse service to patients who cannot pay because of financial difficulties or lack of insurance. My father was on Medicaid, which does not normally cover hospice care, was brought in to William Childs, anyway, because he was ill and not going to recover.
The staff here are amazing. Everyone from the volunteers to nurses to social workers are incredibly kind, caring and understanding. I always felt like each of the people at WCHH were genuinely concerned about my father and my family. They all exhibit a clear understanding of the purpose of hospice and are willing to assist patients and families in whatever they need to make a person’s final days as comfortable as possible. Though the circumstances of one’s stay are always unfortunate, WCHH is a place that cares for its patients in a way I have never seen in a hospital or nursing facility. The staff here work to make sure people are at peace in their final hours and I greatly appreciate all of the work that they do.
Definitely a wonderful, unique facility that provides the utmost care and service to all who enter the doors.
