This is no longer 5th street steak and seafood… it is now a Mexican restaurant. My family went there thinking it was 5th street steak and was disappointed to find out it was not. Stayed anyway and gave the Mexican restaurant a try even though we really didn’t want Mexican food. The rice and beans were TASTELESS! $ 13.00 for three timed enchiladas and tasteless rice and beans! Will not be going there again!

This one star is only for the Fish in the Fish ‘N Chips. The chips were actually good. The beer on tap selection was a bit weak, but okay… the bartender was great… attentive and accomodating. But what a terrible thing to do to fish! And $ 15.95 for what’s essentially a mess of thick, fried batter, that’s a ripoff. Not even a very flavorful fried batter. At least the fish within wasn’t overcooked. Fish ‘n Chips treated this way simply should not be on their menu… which calls the decision-maker for the kitchen into question… I’ve had a really good Siete Mares soup at 5th St, so I have hope for future outings here… but I did want to let you know… avoid the Fish ‘n Chips.

This was our 3rd trip to 5th St. Steak & Seafood; we were celebrating my mother’s birthday, so my parents came out to this end of Ventura county. My wife and I both have had wonderful meals before, I recommended the Shrimp Scampi dish to my mom, and she enjoyed it. My was my third time having it, and it still is the best scampi I have had. Both my wife and my father decided to try the specials; my father loved his salmon dish. My wife decided to try their fish tacos, they were not so good. She expected the fish grilled, they were deep fried, maybe we could have requested grilled fish, I am not sure. She also thought the cabbage was bitter and did not care for the sauce; it was too spicy. Three winners and one bad meal, I have to deduct a star there. When we go again, if she stays with the Coconut Shrimp next time, maybe 5th Street can earn its fifth star back.

Sat down at the table ordered our food and sat there for 35 minutes before the waitress came back out and said we had a «STEAKMISHAP» it’s going to a little longer… And I’m still waiting for my steak. I would of gave them NOSTARS but I couldn’t. A medium rare steak should be warm through the middle with a hint of red. Most of the center of the steak should be pink. The sides should be well browned, the top and bottom charred to a dark brown color. This steak should have a firm surface but soft in the middle. HORRIBLESERVICE !!!

The service is great but I went against the grain and tried the seafood. The snapper was way to salty for my liking and the vegetables slightly undercooked. I must of had my weekly sodium intake in just 1 meal. My girlfriend had the salmon and it came out dry. The flavor overall for the seafood is lackluster. If I were to go back I’d stick with the steak.

I brought my family here after a good experience with my wife the previous visit but what a mistake this turned out to be. After hearing the«Specials» I decided to order two of them: The Salmon Special and the Filet Mignon Special and my kids ordered a Chicken Fetticcine(minus the chicken because she’s vegitarian) and my son, a burger. My «Filet Mignon» came out and it was without a doubt ranchera flat steak with rice that was made either for lunch or the previous night, the beans were refried beans that were made from a can of whole cooked pinto beans and a cheese enchilada which was okay. Extremely disappointed I asked the waitress about it and she said that yes it is Filet Mignon just thin cut… I’m not stupid. Beside the fact that they are completely different cuts of meat, I felt like she lied right to my face. Starving from a longer than usual wait I went ahead and ate my dinner. My wife’s order of the Salmon Special was nothing special, that’s for sure. My daughter’s Vegitarian pasta order still had bits of chicken in it so we sent it back and in return got a small bowl of pasta with just a little bit of fresh veggies thrown on top. Talk about lazy and cheap. Very disappointing. My son said his burger was alright but even Denny’s served up a better one. After this sorry excuse of a dinner out for my family I received the bill… $ 18 for my plate! I couln’t believe it. I’ve been ripped off. They didn’t even give me what I ordered! My wife’s Salmon Special: $ 23! Serious? $ 12 for a small bowl of plain pasta with hardly any veggies — unseasoned and uncooked! I paid my $ 77.65 bill and left. I didn’t have time to waste and just wanted to leave. Never again. Thanks for nothing!

It was a bit disappointed at the burger, I was expecting a char-tasting burger. if I wanted a pan seared burger I would have gone to McDonalds. The calamari was great, cocktail sauce was good also. My girl ordered the filet-mignon alfredo, let’s just say I never seen anyone put barbecue sauce on their pasta. The service was decent… we crossed it off our list… never to return. Lol.

Sometimes, you are who you surround yourself with. And so it is with this restaurant. Given Oxnard will never be looked as a hub of restaurant excellence, 5th Street Steak and Seafood stands out as a solid choice but probably more than it would in a bigger city with more variety. My wife and I were on a weekend-getaway from Los Angeles and chose this out of the local Oxnard Guidebook. Overall, things were pretty good but to say the food was well worth the price might be a stretch. Service was friendly and professional. The ambiance is good though a little short of elegant(perhaps because three giant TV’s at the bar were in our peripheral vision). My wife ordered the rib eye($ 24) and I had the«special» of halibut and scallops served kabob style($ 27). We didn’t dislike either dish but wouldn’t say our knees were collapsing in pleasure at our first bite either. I felt the amount of food on each plate was just about right. We didn’t leave either hungry or overly stuffed. The final bill, including a couple of drinks, came to about $ 78 before tip. But with tip, is this place worth $ 46 a person? Not sure I can say that. Still, given that, per our hotel, the top rated restaurant in the area is just a chain, Mexican restaurant called Yolanda’s, 5th street steak and seafood is a good option if you are not budget conscious.

The service here was pretty good, however the food really wasn’t. I ordered a New York Strip prepared medium. It came out as ordered, semi-pink around the edges and a brighter pink towards the center. The steak tasted and cut like it was a lower quality meat. It was very chewy and just didn’t have that fresh flavor. They did season it heavily on the exterior with black pepper, which I enjoyed. But that was probably the best and only good part of the steak.

So I love that this place is close to home. I am going to warn you that Jen’s Sangria, and anything that Mary makes is a super sleeper drink, you may be carried out like I was one night. What’s super surprising is that all the food I’ve had at 5th Street has been fantastic. The two soups I’ve had were great. Their Italian Wedding Soup, and the Chicken Pozole where wonderful. The tacos in any form are a must try, and any of the seafood items are totally worth trying out. The happy hour food items are pretty good as well. Even though you are in Downtown Oxnard, the prices are not cheap, but well worth it. 5th Street Steak and Seafood is a great restaurant that everyone in VC should make the trip to check out, and while you are their get a Sucia.

Was out on a holiday drive with my wife and passed through Oxnard hungry. We always look for new places. We actually had Unilocaled the place next door which was closed in mid-afternoon. Saw 5th Street next door and after the friendly waitress let us check the menu, we went in. Turned out that it was restaurant week in Oxnard, so we were in time for a twenty dollar for 2 special lunch deal. After a nice salad, I had the Chicken Alison while my wife had the chicken sausage pasta with artichoke hearts and fresh tomatoes. Portions were huge! I usually don’t order chicken breast dishes because I wind up hungry. Not this time. A big breast, with a tasty rich sauce with artichoke hearts and other veggies. Also, a good portion of fresh steamed veggies. The wife loved her pasta. Oddly, none of the beef dishes were on the special menu. Final course was a dessert for both of us. I had the chocolate cake, wife had the cheesecake. Both tasted great, but the chocolate cake was a huge surprise, awesomely decadent! The ambiance is excellent, and the waitress was very good at taking care of us while tending bar at the same time. This was one of the best new(for us) restaurant experiences we have had recently. I am sure we will be back. Of course saving a few bucks didn’t hurt much either!

Talk about a bitchin’ sangria. Made from scratch, with fresh fruit, strong, and pretty. They have a selection of local beers on tap, a few bottled, a food menu, lots of TVs, a bar area, a regular seating area — and really friendly servers. One noticed my sweet tooth and gave me a box of candy, just for the hell of it.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect after reading reviews here but for a party of 7 at 6pm on a Friday night for a birthday dinner, the expectations were met and went beyond lol The bartender Mary made her famous concoction called«The Sucia» and it was sweet with hardly any trace of hard liquor in it :) I could see why our waitress boasted about Mary known to have a title being voted as a top notch bartender of Ventura County. As for food, I ordered the jalepeno burger cooked to medium well with a side of french fries and it tasted average. I feel like I could have ordered a similar burger at Red Robin but wasn’t too bad or the best I’ve ever had. The best part of the night was really the service because our waitress offered to keep the birthday cheesecake a friend brought over in the fridge and checked on us frequently during our dinner. She made our experience really enjoyable and brought her crew of coworkers to sing happy birthday for the birthday girl. She was very accommodating but I wish I remembered her name lol all I know is she went to OHS that’s for sure. Also, another plus to the restaurant is the type of patrons they attract. I have to admit I saw a couple fine looking guys but I’m pretty sure they were on dates with their ladies LOL oh well.

My work treated us out to lunch here, and although we had a set menu with banal menu names like«BBQ Chicken salad,» and«Our Burger,» the the food was actually very impressive! HUGE portions with lots of flavor… at least the Chicken Alison. The shrimp caesar salad and bbq chicken salads looked so appetizing; I wish I had gotten either of those instead. The waitresses were really helpful, kind, and efficient. The bread, oh goodness, the bread was baked just the way I like it – crunchy on the outside, soft interior. I’m eager to try the rest of their standard menu!

Our 1st stop for Restaurant week in Oxnard. They are offering 2 For $ 20, while other restaurants of similar caliber are twice the price, though none of the entrees are steak or seafood. The chicken was delicious as was the pork tenderloin. The shrimp cocktail was 3 huge shrimp with baby greens, the sauce was a little heavy on the horseradish for one of us but not for me… yum. The desesrts were average and all served with strawberries. There is a $ 12pp wine flight offered, not full glasses just tasting portions, none of which were spectacular enough to be showcased but none were bad. My favorite was the Ravenwood Zin, which I have had before. In hind sight I would just order a glass of wine. The service was excellent and the booth are roomy with a view of lovely downtown Oxnard. We were here once before and had steak and a great time. They get the stars today for best price, cordial service and good atmosphere.

It’s a bit strange to see an upscale place in the shadow of a big movie theatre, but they’ve been here for years now and seem to be doing well. The prices and speed are definitely in-line with an upscale place, so do NOT come here if you just have an hour or so before a movie(we ended-up missing some of the previews). I started with a Manhattan, which was well made. Then, we each had a wedge salad, which was very good, but so large, I think we should have split a single order.(Hint: ask them to add bacon, it’s even better!) We each had steaks(what else?) and my wife’s was perfect, while I had to send my Sirloin back once because instead of medium-rare it was well-done. One thing that the waiter did do for us that was unexpected and quite welcome was to take our«to-go» bag and store it in their fridge until after our movie. Much appreciated.

Decent restaurant and bar in the downtown Oxnard area. It’s in the same complex with Starbucks and the movie theater so you can watch a flick right after. There are plenty of 2 hour street parking good until 11 pm, or you can park by the park which is only away for unlimited free parking. Came in just in time to get their daily happy hour. Good from 5−7pm, they have a $ 5 app menu consisting of wings, quesadilla, ribs, nachos, and sliders, or $ 1 off beers and wells. I went with a Bay Breeze — vodka, cran and pineapple juice, pretty good. Went with their 12 oz NY prime strip steak, medium rare, with vegetables and fries. Fries were a bit off, not thoroughly cooked on some of the fries. Vegetables were great. Steak cooked to my liking, though needed more seasoning of salt and pepper. Still a pretty good steak. Also came with warm bread and butter. For dessert went with the mud pie made of kahlua ice cream and whipped cream drizzled with fudge and caramel. Why have I not weighed 200 pounds yet? Pretty good stuff. Décor was decent, bar was fully stocked, candlelit tables, outdoor seating as well and customer service was above average. Good deal especially for a place that serves prime steaks for half the cost at Ruth Chris or Fleming’s.

Went here with a large group. Our server was very nice and pleasant. I and a buddy ordered the carne asada and both paid royally for it back at the hotels. Wow. Not bueno. Also, they tend to do the«food auction» when they serve food and drinks. Is it so difficult to use rotation order so that you don’t have to interrupt your guests’ conversations to auction off a beer or fish plate. «Who had the fish?» It’s your job to know who ordered the fish, jackass. We came to eat, not do your job for you. Don’t half step. Don’t order the carne asada because it’s super fatty and will possibly reek havoc on your cuerpo
