I have been here a few times with my father in-law since I moved to Owensboro and if you are looking for a greasy spoon type joint this place is pretty good. Not great, but I don’t expect great when I come to places like this. I will start with the positives and hope that my critique does not give the impression that I didn’t enjoy my experience here, I actually did. The service has been good on all of my visits, and the people are very friendly. You know, small town down home charm with a bit of grit. I absolutely love people like this as they remind me of my grandparents. The price simply cannot be beat. Very reasonable and honestly its good to find a place that serves you an honest meal at a decent price. Every time I have come here I have ordered the same thing. Large Breakfast with Eggs over medium, biscuits and gravy with bacon and fried potatoes with a cup of coffee and a glass of orange juice. On all of my visits my eggs were cooked perfectly over medium. I cannot tell you how much this pleases me because so many times in the past at other places I have been served eggs that were over well and when I asked them to correct the issue I got«the look». I like my yolk to be runny(to sop up with my toast) so over well kind of robs me of that… So when Mendy’s succeeded in making my eggs correctly three times in a row I was very pleased. The biscuits were decent, warm and fluffy, but the gravy was a bit bland. Could have used a little Parnell’s Old Folks country sausage in my opinion. Not inedible by any means just not anything to write home about. The bacon was obviously reheated and not great, kind of a weird dark color. I think this is probably from the grill needing to be bricked(cleaned) properly. The fried potatoes were a mix of overcooked black charred and under-browned mushy soggy oily goo. This is the reason they got three stars and not four. When I come to a place like this I know what I am looking for. I don’t mind the shabby hole in the wall look of the place, kind of adds character to me. The food fell somewhat short in a few areas, but the place overall gave me what I was hoping to find. A small town biscuits and eggs greasy spoon, with a good cup of Joe, a paper to read and a decent breakfast at a good price. All in all I was pleased with my meal on every one of my four visits. The food has been consistent, a positive in some ways a negative in others. That being said, I will probably be back as I love places like this.

Everyone was telling me how this was a great place to eat and they had the best breakfast. I went and was highly disappointed. The food was not that good and the service was horrid, which is odd because it is a small local place. We ordered enough food that we had every item on the breakfast menu. The pancake was greasy and as thin as paper, eggs greasy, ham was burnt in the omelette, sausage greasy, egg omelette was a joke. The two stars are because the price it’s good for greasy food and the biscuits where fluffy and the coffee was apparently good enough for 5 cups. So if your looking for a place to drink coffee and eat biscuits… you have found it
