Lic’s Ice Cream & Deli

We have stopped by Lic’s now twice in the month it has been since we moved to Owensboro. Small places like this are quickly disappearing in the cities due to the cost of overhead and competition from major chains.
Mom and Pop shops and small businesses are part of the reason we decided after over 20 years in Denver to relocate to Owensboro. To allow our children a chance to experience that «Home Town» feel. Owensboro does not disappoint in that regard.
Lic’s Ice Cream and Deli is a great little place. The staff has been the same three girls both times we have stopped in. Their service was friendly, sincere and exactly what you would expect from a small ice cream shop,
While the food is nothing «incredible» (it doesnt pretend to be) they do have a variety of decent sandwiches at an incredibly low price point. It was nice to get a decent meal for a good price as well as some lively conversation from the staff who were all friendly, personable and seemed to go out of their way for the customers not only inside the store but at the drive thru window.
They didn’t micro manage the Ice cream by weight as most other places do. When you order a quart they simply use a quart container and fill it to the rim. They have some great little Ice Cream Bites which my children and I enjoyed watching them make by hand.
In short, their ice cream is as good as any other Ice cream place I have been, No, they don’t have 590 flavors served on a frozen rock, but the ones they do have are excellent, The service both times we have stopped in has been terrific and (at the price point) the all around experience is worth a write up in my opinion.

I don’t know why, but I only think about Lic’s when I’m passing by it. I forget about it. Thats not because its not good, maybe its because I’m not usually out on the west side of town. I’m not sure. Anyway. Lic’s. Lic’s is pretty good.
I’ve been coming to Lic’s for a long as I can remember. Lic’s is a local deli & ice cream shop chain, this being the only one in Owensboro. You can dine in or use the drive thru. Hot sandwiches or cold ice cream. Pick your poison, or both like I do.
I used to order the gourmet sub sandwich. Its a sub that has a bunch of different meats, cheese & some kind of oily sauce thats poured on. The sauce can make the sub soggy after a little, so it’s best to eat it soon after you get it. My new go to order is the spicy chicken quesadilla. I like spicy & THIS is pretty spicy. It’s full of cheese & chicken, along with some kind of hot sauce. It’s really good & served with regular, potato chips.
Now, the important part, DESSERT. My fav is the lic’s chip ice cream cookie sandwich. I get the vanilla ice cream that is sandwiched between two white chocolate macadamia cookies. They are huge & a meal in itself. They also have different types of ice cream that you can get in a dish, cone, or shake.
