Silver Strand at Sheldrake

The owner gets upset when asked to fix anything (no air, broken light) as it seems to be interfering with his private time. While the views of the lake are great, you do have to cross a road to get to it so the B&B is not really on the lake. This is why only two stars.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Silver Strand at Sheldrake Point to celebrate our 10^th anniversary. We stayed in the pricest room in the main house so that may color my impression of the following review. The house is georgeous. It is an 1860’s victorian mansion, right above the water. Our room had an interesting tropical décor but was well decorated. The room had a beutiful view straight up the lake and the private balcony had lounge chairs to enjoy the view in with your morning coffee. The bathroom is almost entirely taken up by an huge two person whirlpool tub. It is very comfortable. It is here that I will insert pretty much my only complaint. The bathroom is in need of some repair! The sliding doors don’t close well and one is completely out of the channel. Also, there is very little space between the corner of the tub and the door/​wall and it looks like it stubs a lot of toes. The corner tile is actually broken it has been kicked so many times, and I cut my toe pretty good when it came to be my turn to do so. Whats that you say? Don’t kick the tub… Well, I blame the wine.
There is a ‘private’ beach and boat house, and there are several rowboats, paddle boats, and kayaks for use by guests. The beach is entirely made of lake-​rounded shale. This may sound lame, but it is one of the most awesome beaches I have ever seen and I have seen a number of beaches across the mediteranian and up the east coast. Swimming looks like it would be awesome, but probably not in October. We will go back in the summer to find out.
Maura is amazing. She is fun to talk to, and wow can she cook. Breakfast is awesome. It was very hard to leave in the morning because I just wanted to keep eating. She knows the area very well and is great advice if you need any help finding an activity… and with all the wineries and parks in the area… you shouldn’t!

This place was lovely, absolutely fabulous location, charming, relaxing, everything I look for in a B&B. We had a room with antique bed, nice bedding and towels, double jacuzzi, private balcony… it made for a great two night stay.
Breakfast was on the sweet side for our taste – the homeade granola and muffins and yogurt were good, but I appreciate being able to add my own sugar if that’s what I want. There was always either a fruit salad or fresh fruit and bagels, so that worked out well.
It is great to have use of the rowboat, kayaks, and paddleboat (which unfortunately only makes right turns!) and there are chairs and lounge chairs out on the dock for sunning and fishing.
Wonderful place, will visit again for sure. Sheldrake Point vineyard is a 5 minute walk up the road and that is a great winery. Visit Trumansburg and go to Hazelnut Kitchen for dinner – that place is amazing!

I stayed here for a night after visting Ithaca on my way up to Vermont. The location is amazing, right on the water front. Silver Strand has a large wrap around porch with tables were you can sit and eat, and a large dock that is perfect for walking out on to drink your morning coffee.
Every room has a balcony that has a view of the lake which is a major bonus. The rooms were quaint and clean, each room having its own bathroom. In the morning they will delivery coffee to your door at the time that you indicate on a card that you set outside of your door before you go to bed (pretty decent service they provide).
The breakfast was good, consisting of yogurt, granola, fruit salad, bagels, pastries, and egg and cheese soufflé. They had tea, coffee, milk, and orange juice for beverage choices.
The man and woman who run it are very pleasant. Their prices are also some in the best in the area. I will stay were for sure next time I am in the area.
