I’m a visitor out of town and I have a high standard for Indian food. That being said, the owner is really nice and friendly. I ordered chicken vindaloo, veggie samosa and garlic naan. Everything was on point… However, the chicken vindaloo doesn’t look like chicken or taste like it. It has a gamey taste like lamb. See pic. Based on the samosa and garlic naan being on point, I give it 4⁄5 stars. Very popular with the locals. Definitely worth trying despite all the other BBQ joints in Kansas City.

Do not pass this place up! Check out the lunch buffet; it’s totally worth every penny. The entire staff will treat you as family; especially the owner. You will walk out of the place with a smile from ear to ear. I went around 11 for a quick lunch one day. I walked out around 11:30 and there was a line out the door or people waiting to get in. What was even more incredible about it were the sweet woman that worked there passing out food samples to everyone waiting in line. This place is one of the few places I care to return to when back in Kansas.

My favorite Indian restaurant in town. Been to both this location and the Westport one. Love their lunch buffet, especially for those that are new to Indian cuisine and want to try a little of everything.

Oh man, this place is WILD! I’M A FAN just because of the antics in here! So I went to the Westport location and didn’t have a great experience… but I loved the butter chicken and wanted more. So I decided to come here. My friend and I usually do lunch Thursdays so we came on a Thursday during lunch… The line was literally out the door. And this is when all the action starts. The owner was walking up and down the line giving out the fried veggie something from the buffet telling everyone to EAT, EAT… Makes you STRONG! mmmKay sir, I’ll be strong! So we get seating, and as long as the line is, it moves really fast. Everyone except the«wife»(I’m assuming, the lady taking the money and sending out the checks) was really wild and animated and super fun! Like everything was to be «Happy». We get up and get our food, I had my kids w/me 5&6 and I knew they were not eating so we told them it was just 2 of us eating, we get our food they bring out Naan and drinks and then a dish just for the kids because they«need to be full» They kept bring out special stuff for my kids even though I said they weren’t eating because they’re picky little shits. I really appreciated that! Anyways things are always flowing at this location, your naan is always getting filled and drinks and whatever else you need. The food was really good, the tandoori chicken was awesome at this location and of course the butter chicken my fave. Well before leaving I ordered butter chicken to go. I’m sure they totally over charged me for this… but whatever. We got our bill for the buffet and we paid it, then I asked for the bill for the butter chicken and it was like $ 27.23…Like what??? So I asked how much the butter chicken was he said 19.99, I said well my bill says $ 27, he takes it back and says 19.99 for buffet and everything, I said I already paid for the buffet, he said okay 19.99…SO I just gave him $ 20 and called it good. He goes over to the buffet w/a to go box and gets tandoori chicken and pours whatever he brought for my kids in the bowl that they didn’t eat and some rice and left over naan… and said here go feed the kids. I just had to laugh everything was so wild and crazy!

I really love this spot. The bright colors are so inviting starting with the door. I went for the lunch buffet which is only $ 11. It’s perfect for people who don’t know what they want or are new to Indian food. I love the unlimited Chai Tea, coconut soup is divine! I love the chicken masala and pakora. The buffet includes the Mango flavor lassi and a Nan basket.

Delicious Indian food!!! They make sure that you fill up on Chai tea, Mango Lassi, Naan and Samosas. If you are going for the first time I would recommend doing the buffet during lunch so you can try multiple items.

We had a strange experience here actually. We ended up here for Sunday lunch, while we were given choice for Buffet or A-la-Carte and food was fairly good. The service was fairly fast and it was good, till the time I believe one of the owners decided to distribute some stuff to people in all of the tables. So, looks like there is a concept of «PRANKSTERFOOD» here. So, he distributed one thing called chocolate roll, which in fact was not SWEET, it was SPICYYY as HELL.(Trust me, coming from an Indian guy, that’s like dumped with CHILLIs). The guys at my table were pissed as hell, they were like what the HELL is going on. Then at the end, he came around saying«SPICY» something, which happened to be SWEET. CAUTION: So, please ask what is in it, if he doesn’t REVEAL ingredients then better to assume the worst. When he says SPICY, it’s SWEET and vice versa :)

Best Indian food I’ve ever had! A friend and I were in KC from Kentucky for a convention and arrived at 2 for the lunch buffet. It was still fresh even being that close to closing time. Everything was excellent. Naan, a yogurt drink(sorry, not aware of what it is called), an amazing hot thick chai, and a frozen dessert all kept being brought to our table as we ate. Who I assume was the manager was boisterous and warm, bellowing«be happy!» repeatedly to no one in particular throughout the time we were there. I wish that I didn’t live so far away!

The food here is so good! They had all my favs at the buffet! The price is pretty surprising as well. I came here with a friend and we were seated promptly. Just a note — this place is pretty small and fills up fast! Also there is no waiting area so be prepared to bump into people. The owner is HILARIOUS! He’s very hands-on and makes sure every single customer is taken care of. My friend said he is there EVERYDAY! He also goes around passing naan on everyone’s table and asks if they need anything else! He kinda reminds me of my grandpa! LOL! I usually go to Ruchi’s but I think I might have to switch over to Korma Sutra! For $ 12.99, you get to eat at the buffet which includes unlimited Mango Lassi(which is UNHEARDOF) and garlic naan! Our waiter even wrapped it up for us to go! Love it! I’ll def be back!

So how does a place so popular fail? Let’s review. Expensive for the serving sizes, many dishes came to the table without request, as did many sides and drinks. The owner/waiter/hilarious comedy relief provided entertainment with his wanderings throughout the small but full room. The highlight of the meal wasn’t the food, but the host’s eccentric behavior. It seems he drained the life out of the two waitresses and used it for his constant antics. The food was average, in my experience. Nothing extremely special, but better then bought from the store sauces. In the end being charged +$ 65 for two $ 15 dishes and two drinks put a damper on this location. I doubt I will return given my other findings for Indian cuisine in the area(see my other reviews or just try Seva). The ambience would be nice, if not for the fact that you’ll be packed into a tiny room elbow to elbow with other people in rickety old chairs and an even smaller table. Lighting and painting made for a pretty background. If I do return, I will have some chai tea and sit back and enjoy the host’s crazed antics. I actually wish I could have whatever dish he seems to be having. Locale and ambience: 3 Friendliness: 4 Food: 3 Price: 1 Overall: 2

I am not going to Korma Sutra any more. You ask me why? Read it yourself This KCStar article mentions that a health inspector found hundreds of roaches in this restaurants kitchen.

In reviewing their Indian lunch buffet, their offerings are OK — saag paneer and chicken tikka masala were«off» — not in a bad way but less flavorful and different that most other indian joints. CTM was missing the tangy creaminess. Their biryani seemed to be lacking in spice, as it didn’t have the kick and flavorful goodness that I’m accustomed to enjoying at most other Indian restaurants. The goat was missing the goaty/gamey flavor — which was a nice change of pace and something I enjoyed. I feel like they changed typical indian recipes to be tailored towards western tastes — to be a little more bland to put it bluntly. but they did so successfully because this place was packed full of the business crowd of caucasians and other ethnicities — but barely any Indian clientele! I’m not complaining though! I loved their food, and one thing that they do well — better than most, in fact — was chicken Tandoori. It was super juicy and had awesome smoke color and was extremely well-flavored. I would return just for the chicken tandoori alone! Indian joints usually charge a la carte for most things. For example Mango Lassi, not being a fountain drink, usually must be made fresh and therefore charged by the glass. Not here! Korma Sutra provides all-you-can drink Mango Lassi! Granted, it’s not as high quality as the freshly-made Lassi’s at most other places because it tastes like it came from a powder mix and tastes sweeter and less fresh. However, it’s still good enough for this cat! Another freebie all-you-can eat is the Naan bread. And we’re not talking about plain naan — they feed you genererous portions of the premium naan with small chives drizzled on them! It pairs perfectly with their very decent Raita from the buffet. If you’re dining with a large group, they’ll give you free grilled chicken on a skillet — I recommend you avoid this because this chicken was extremely dry and bland. To top it off, they conclude your meal with chai tea — for free! That’s right! they don’t nickle and dime you! It was a perfect way to cap-off a filling lunch and to get rid of any oil that may have remained in your mouth from the food. Not affecting the review was the super cheerful proprietor of the joint — who had the energy and enthusiasm of a waiter on cocaine and 5-hour energy. He was super happy, greeted guests with a megaphone of a larynx, and shot from table to table like a whirlwind. While he wasn’t serving, he’ll dare you to try a super spicy naan bread(do avoid — it’s dry and it’ll make you drink lots of water — taking-up valuable stomach real estate and prevents you from enjoying all-you-can-eat buffet goodness!) I don’t think the place would’ve been so successful without him because he knew alot of the customers personally — which means this place gets alot of return customers — something that clued me in to how this tiny and cramped restaurant is loved in the local community.

Come hungry because you’ll need every corner of your stomach to store and digest what you’ll be served. Very humble surroundings, so don’t come for the ambience. Free appetizers, chai, dessert and sometimes even a complimentary lassi surround your meal of choice. Enjoy the whirlwind owner-waiter as he continually asks you if you want to try something else. Great place, better food.

This is THEJOINT! I wish I had more time just to catch a lunch buffet here, it looked so amazing! I zipped in during lunch but didn’t have time to stay for the buffet so just ordered some okra, rice and naan for takeout. Before I could look at the menu, the host had handed me vegetable pakora on a stick to sample. I was HUNGRY, not quite HANGRY, but HUNGRY. Salty, crispy, fried cumin, a slight kick to it. It was delicious. Immediately after I was chewing on this sensational little bit, a hot mug of sweet chai was pushed into my palm. Then, menu. I ordered, waited. Saw the crowd hustling and bustling, the host energetic and welcoming. He clearly took pride in welcoming his guests. The buffet itself looked AMAZEBALLS. I saw at least two meat curries, a familiar cauliflower and green peas combination, and a line of other dishes I couldn’t stare at too intently lest I be tempted to forego the rest of my afternoon’s work to stay and eat till I had to be rolled home. The okra don piazza is their take on a favorite Punjabi(northern india) dish of mine: okra sautéed with cumin, ginger, onions, garlic, tomatoes. Here it’s chilis, garlic, onions and tomatoes. It’s one of my favorite ways to eat okra outside of gumbo and fried okra and pickled okra and blanched okra – damn i just like okra. I like the food, service, and atmosphere so much I would almost look for an excuse to come back to Kansas just to eat here.

We came right at the start of lunch buffet and although it wasn’t busy yet, it did get busy quick. The buffet itself wasn’t too many selections but the service I would say from the male host was superb. The other ladies on the other hand it seemed like they wanted us gone since we didn’t finish my first dish before I was given the bill. Being my first time here I was surprised and very happy that the buffet offered Mango Lassi and Chai Tea as part of the lunch buffet. Initially I was bummed that I only got half a cup of Chai tea, but I was happy when the mug got refilled as I had my meal. There was Butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and a lamb dish. Then about 6 other vegetarian diahes. 2 dessert type items and some fruit. Garlic Nain was served on the table and also refilled along with water and Mango Lassi refills. 2 people ran about $ 24. When the meal is done we were offered a triangle cut of Pistachio ice cream on a toothpick and waitress foil wrapped leftover Naan and asked how many people wanted Chai Tea Togo. This is about the 3rd Indian buffet I’ve been to and was the 1st to offer things for take out when the buffet was over. A must try if you’ve never been. But don’t expect a large meat selection of you are a carnivore.

Korma Sutra is Overland Park’s most fun and most tasty Indian restaurant. I’ve been for dinner before, but I went for the lunch buffet with my little sister. The vegetarian options here are great: half the buffet is vegetarian. I ended up getting a mix of curries, chana masala, korma, and more. The taste is quite authentic, and reminds me of Houston’s finest little India spots, but with a bit more butter and a bit more cream in all the food. The food is not as spicy as I wish it were, and doesn’t have a spicy chutney option in the buffet line, but that’s probably the only downside of this affordable lunch buffet. I can’t emphasize how fun of an experience this place is. The owner of the restaurant claps his hands and chants«Happy Happy,» interacts with every customer in a way that isn’t annoying but rather quite charming, and feeds customers waiting in line with vegetarian samples that he grabs from the buffet line or from the kitchen. The mango drinks are free, the desert comes around on a toothpick and is free, and even his elementary-school-age daughter gets in on restaurant experience by refilling your water. I distinctly remember my first dinner experience here, worried that every free sample brought out would be another line item on my final bill. Nope. Just a cool restaurant owner trying to provide a differentiated Indian dining experience by being a total goofball. And this time at lunch a year later? The owner asked me where I’ve been, how was Houston, and more. Korma Sutra is just an overall a fantastic restaurant.
