For some reason I always forget this place exists. Which really is crazy, because the food is pretty dang good. Service is extremely hit or miss — last time I ordered an online order almost 30 minutes in advance, and still waited 15 after I got there at my scheduled pick up time — so, maybe not just hit or miss, but. sorta not great(?) — but the subs are definitely fresh, made to order. The bread is soft and tasty. Don’t come here if you’re on a time limit, its just simply never quick.

The times I have been here they have always been super slow. I mean I have to wait a super long time for 1 simple sandwich. They did apologize and gave me a card for a free sandwich. But still they are slow. The food is great. Lots of meat on their sandwiches compared to jimmy johns or subway.

Where did my beloved Firehouse Subs go? Super slow service w/vulgarity from a shift leader behind the counter. 10 min plus waiting on my sub. Not good. Update: It ended up being 15 min before I got my to go order. I had to ask if my order was lost because the gentleman behind me was served before me. At that time I told the manager it had been 15 mins(he agreed) he did apologize for the wait. The sub wasn’t exceptional as when Mike ran the place. Will not be back to this location as this is the second trip since changing hands and both were poor experiences.

Great sandwich place. My wife and I had the chicken bacon ranch and beef and cheddar brisket sandwiches. They both were great! The brownie and lemon cookie were good too. My wife also likes their soda machine that can add a flavor to the soda and had a grape Sprite. The guys working were awesome and also very friendly. We will be back. Highly recommended

Great place for sub sandwiches. Options for everyone. I’m loving the pork and coleslaw on Hawaiian bread! This location is super busy from about 11:30−1 during the week. It’s remarkably clean. They have a few patio seats. It’s strange though, there’s really no place for only one or two people to sit. You’ll end up taking a table for four even if you’re alone. That’s pretty annoying to people who may come alone or with one other person, especially when the tables are made as a two-top and all shoved together at a minimum of a four-top. I’m not embarrassed to ask if I can scoot a table over, or if someone minds sharing the space… but are most people likely to do this? Nah. I do avoid coming here sometimes during the rush because of this and don’t want to stand around holding my sandwich until someone leaves. So please, make some single two-tops available for the days where customers want to eat without talking to or disrupting anyone else.

This was my first time here, and I wish there was on of these closer to me. This was very tasty and fair priced. Friendly staff and great service.

This is a perfect lunch spot if you’re in the area and want something relatively quick, but without sacrificing quality or paying too much. They have anything you could want in a lunch spot: The food is always good – never sloppy or rushed, even during the lunch rush. The line moves quickly – at least when there is a line. I often find myself in there between Noon and 1pm to find a couple people in front of me or no line at all. And the staff is always friendly and direct. Quick enough to know that they care about keeping the line moving, but without being brusque or rude. There are also some other features that I don’t typically use, but that might be useful for others – online ordering, and catering if you have a team lunch for which you are responsible for providing food. All in all, you could do a whole lot worse for lunch, and in terms of being easy and inexpensive there aren’t many places better in the area.

I love firehouse! There is no better sub place around, and the environment and workers are equally excellent. I’ve been coming to firehouse the moment I heard about it, and I’ve tried multiple things here, always satisfied. Word of advice: Get a hot sub, and eat it there. My favorite is the #10, smoked brisket and cheddar w/bbq sauce. The choices here are about the most daunting thing, although the employees are happy to help you decide. Basically, you can optimize your sandwich as much you like, including wheat/white bun, what size, extra meat, extra veggies, cheese, etc. Everything is made to order so it will be customized exactly how you want it. There are also a hundred different sauces labeled with how spicy they are. You put the sauce on your own sandwich, so it really is your own unique sandwich. The brownies are actually really good too, and I like that they have coke freestyle(the machine with thousands of different flavors to mix with each soda), and tons(maybe too many…) of chip options. I love the ku/kstate painting, and all the rest of décor too. All in all a very good choice for lunch, with good quality and good customer service. And they’re always showing good fire prevention advice, and have something to help someone in need with a donation or a % of profits going towards charity.

My all time favorite place to eat a sandwich! They had these sandwiches at the CCFA walk and I am hooked! They are delicious!

I had new york and engineer subs before and they were really good. Next time i had number 7 the steak sandwich and had to spit it out, leave hungry and go to somewhere else, just don’t order the steak sandwich, rest should be good. PS: Management somehow noticed i didn’t like the steak sandwich and gave me a free coupon for next time.

I had half of he engineer and it was very good. Turkey, Swiss, mushrooms asked for no onion and no mustard. The mushrooms were just okay — not very flavorful. The turkey was very good — cut perfectly. Not too thick not too thin. Melted Swiss on wheat is always good. My mom had the number 5, turkey bacon ranch. It was even better than the engineer.

Never have had bad service in any kc firehouse location. Love the subs and the variety of available sauces. The newer coke machine is the icing on the cake.

The prices are pretty unfair for what you get. The people preparing the sandwiches weren’t wearing hair nets and I was fortunate enough to find a long black hair on my chicken salad sandwich. When I showed it to them, they made me a new one. As if I would want another sandwich after that and didn’t offer to refund my money. To me, this is terrible business and very sickening.

I’m always on the lookout for a good, fast sub shop near my office, and this one makes the cut quite handily. Easy parking & fast service gets me back to work in plenty of time for that one o’clock meeting my boss insists on scheduling — or, if the meeting got cancelled, there’s a dine-in area that is both roomy & spotless. The theme is completely over the top(everything is red or dalmatian-print; the specialty sandwiches all have names like the«Hook & Ladder»; if you want everything on your sandwich, you order it «fully involved»; &c.) but this is forgivable both because of the founders’ family ties and because of the public-safety foundation work that they do. The important thing, though, is the food… a cute theme or a charitable-contributions website won’t save you if the food doesn’t measure up. Happily, the sandwiches are quite excellent. They steam instead of toasting… it makes a huge difference to the flavor of the meat, rendering everything juicy & flavorful. They pile it on, too, nothing skimpy. The bread is soft but not soggy, and the pickle spear on the side is pretty good too(although it’s surely from a jar, I don’t think they are making their own pickles.) Haven’t tried the hot-sauce bar yet, but just the fact that it stretched over several feet of countertop impressed me.

My family and I have become sub experts. Mainly because it is about the only fast food you can get that is mildly healthy and actually contains real vegetables. Firehouse actually makes a real good sub, different than all the other places. Most places you can either get them cold or toasted, but Firehouse steams their subs(just the insides, not the bread). That way the insides are warm, the cheese is melted, but your bread stays soft. Good selection of sammy’s and the few I have tried I liked. Prices are good and they have one of those Coke machines where you can make a cherry, orange, vanilla, Coke if you are so inclined. They also have a large selection of hot sauces ranging from one that tastes like ketchup to one that will make your mouth feel like you drank directly from a molten volcano.

It’s been about a year, and I’ve been back a couple times. Still dependable on the ol meatball sub. I have discovered that it is so much better on white bread than wheat. Yeah I said it. White bread. It’s unhealthy, it’s loaded with sugar and carbs. It goes straight to your butt. But damn it makes the meatballs even better. Other than that, not much else has changed. In my last review I said I would try something else, but I haven’t. What can I say, I finally found a meatball sub worth trying again and again.

Went with some friends. One of them had been there before and liked it. Sandwich was good, not great and price was fair. I’d say pricy, but I tend to shop the $ 5 foot long and it’s 8 Inch but it wasn’t a $ 5 foot long kind of sub. Overall I spent more then I would want on a regular basis even though I ordered a water. Got a sandwich and the chili. Chili was pretty bland, but there were tons of options to «fire» it up. My heat tolerance has risen over time, but I started with a 5 as the common Cholula Mexican hot sauce was a 4. Next was a 7 but didn’t seem like much of a difference. Both had little flavor. One had a hint of Chipotle(had that in the title). Next I chose the lowest level of one called pain. 85% pain rated an 8. There was a 90% and 100%. It and Great White Shark Predator hot sauce a 9 both were made with habinaros and had definitely some heat. Was told the shark one was previously a 10. So use the scale as a guideline not a hard scale. Doesn’t look like they use any science for their 1 – 10 scale. It was good, but I wouldn’t be a regular. I’d like to try the beef brisket as it looked good as well. Along with a little more costly.

Firehouse Subs is a Jacksonville, Florida based franchise with over 400 restaurants in 21 states. A relatively small chain compared to Subway with over 34,000 locations and Quiznos with over 4,500 respectively. My first experience was a take out order of a medium Brisket sandwich for $ 5.79.(USDA Choice beef brisket smoked for 10+ hours, melted cheddar, and special sauces.) I ordered it on wheat and without cheddar. The sandwich was really tasty! I’d like to hear what a K.C. BBQ expert(Clark S.) would think of this sandwich. Nutritional information found here. Read the sodium content at your own risk: Bonus points for being able to order online and dining area having a large HD television tuned to ESPN. The Firehouse ordering counter reminds me of a sports’ stadium concession stand with the long straight counter. The silver foodservice equipment lined directly behind the counter adds to that effect.
