Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

The menu is basically what you expect when you go to A chain. Our server, Joseph, was very good. even though there was a line of people waiting, they told us it would be a 5 to 10 minute wait. I really doubted that. It was about a 10 minute wait. The server got our drinks out immediately and we had a very relaxing enjoyable Lunch. The two that had vegetable plates were completely happy with the plates. I had an appetizer as lunch. The chicken was very tough. The cheeseballs were not bad, but didn’t have a lot of flavor and the potato skins very good.

I’m from out of state. Here on business. First time to try this place. I sat at the bar which is big and has that sport bar feel. Anyway I’ve ate here three times now and the food is fresh and hot and really tasty. Service is excellent.
My new favorite after work place for a few drinks and catch a score and eat. I give it a thumbs up

Came here for lunch. The chicken fried steak was really doughy being undercooked. Gravy was bland and not stirred in a while. Tortilla soup was red cold water. Wait staff was nice. Won’t be back. Not worth putting on shoes for.

Still just the best. Walked in close to 6 pm last night, was seated immediately, waitress was the best, food (shrimp platter with mashed taters & gravy + a loaded baked potato ((yes, I had a rough day and double carbed… don’t judge me… too harshly))) was great, and was in and out in under 45 minutes. Simply love the food/​value/​wait staff/​menu options.

This place is always packed! We get take out to avoid the long wait which would be my only reason for 4 stars. We get 1 buffalo chicken wrapper with fries and both my husband and I are satisfied. I think it’s $ 8. IT.IS.AWESOME. I crave it! There ranch is soooooo good too. I haven’t ever had anything else but buffalo chicken wrapper. Those are the only 3 words you need to know

Great food and prices. The service was even better, our waiter, Vincent was more that helpful and provided one of the best expirences for our 3 year olds birthday lunch.

As we walked into a near empty restraunt on a Tuesday, we were surprised that we had to be added to the waiting list. Several other small groups near by were grumbling about the wait as well. It was quickly obvious that there was a server shortage and the poor manager looked flustered.
After a brief 15 minutes we were offered a table. We quickly ordered and received our meals. I had been craving a club for some reason, so I went with my gut. The club at Cheddar ‘s was not that impressive to say the least. It was small with somewhat soggy middle. My gut had steered me wrong. My husband’s meal looked a little better though. Shrimp and chicken with a side of rice and baked potatoe. Everytime I find myself at Cheddar’s I seem to end up a little disappointed. Better luck next time Cheddar’s!

Looking for a great place to have dinner for a great price? Amazing Cheddar’s has a great variety of food for a very reasonable price. Their adult beverages for the size and quality is super cheap in comparison to most seat down restaurants.
Today I ordered the rib eye, for $ 12 it was probably better than some more expense restaurants. Service was great. As always their sweet croissants were on point!

At my best, I am a human garbage disposal, at my worst I am a glutton. So when I saw a $ 7 Caesar salad, I was expecting something of an appetizer.
This thing had the standards — chicken, lettuce, croutons, — as well as pasta and a croissant with HONEY BUTTER. I barely finished it, but the waitress said it was an impressive feat. Who goes into a food coma from a Caesar salad?
I’ve had other dishes — fish, chicken, basic dishes — and they are decent, nothing special. Still, you can get out with a $ 20 bill for two people.
Yeah, the wait was a little much for a Tuesday evening, but golly, you can’t beat the affordability of the food here.

Went to Cheddars last night and had one of the worst experiences that I’ve ever had there. I ordered the ribeye which came out with a giant knot of hair in it. They did remake it and took it off my check but the steak had no flavor. We then ordered a monster cookie for our grandkids for desert, it looked terrible when it came out. The cookie was rock hard and completely unappetizing. My wife and I have been going to this Cheddars since it first opened up. It seems, like so many other restaurants, that they start out great and gradually decline in service and quality as time goes on. We will never go back.

My family and I currently visited Cheddar’s for my birthday. We had a party of seven on Monday October 26^th. We were promptly greeted at the door then sat down a couple minutes later.
We arrived just before the dinner rush, around 5 o’clock.
We waited about 10 minutes before anyone even came over to talk to us. Then once our drink order was taken, we waited another 10 minutes for half of our drinks to arrive (non-​alcoholic came out first) then by the time another 10 minute period came by, we received our alcoholic drinks, but also by that time we needed some refills. The waitress didn’t even ask even though most of our glasses were empty. We also ordered our appetizers, which took a very long while to get out.
When they finally managed to get our apps out, the waitress managed to put her hair in one of our cheese dips, so we sent it back.
Finally, once we put our order in it took another forever time to get out. I had ordered a bowl of the potato soup, which I never got. My brother ordered a side salad which he never received.
The food was good, which is why I am giving this rating TWO STARS.
At the end of the meal we also ordered two more sides of croissants, which we never received either.
The manager just kept walking around, never apologized for the very poor service we received, even though I’m pretty sure she knew how the service was. Anyway, my family and I are in the service business as well. And we understand «off» days, which is the ONLY REASON we left a good tip.
However, it wasn’t a very enjoyable birthday. The service was beyond poor and we probably won’t be back for a very long time. Usually Cheddar’s is one of our preferred spots to eat, but this meal took about TWO HOURS from start to finish.

Once again, I found myself at the mercy of my coworkers: either lunch alone or frequent a chain. We hit up Cheddar’s at about 11:45 and the place was already packed. Our server was plenty friendly and fun, but it took over thirty minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered the sweet heat chicken breast with grilled shrimp over ginger rice with a garden salad on the side. The salad had way too much dressing on it. The shrimp and chicken were both overdone. The chicken was almost inedible, not tender at all. My coworker got the key west chicken breast meal and I noticed her sawing away at her chicken as well. Another coworker ordered the fish tacos, and they looked yummy. If I must come back another time, that is what I will order. When we walked out at 12:55 pm, the lobby and outside area by the door was packed with people waiting. I don’t get it. The prices are fair, but the food, atmosphere, and all around experience? Exactly «meh…I’ve experienced better,» and lots of much better options are within walking distance.

Again, I stand by my 5-​star rating for this location — main reason being that service has always been superb for my family and I.
For those of you who don’t like to wait in line, here’s my tip for minimizing wait times (besides the obvious choice of choosing times that avoid the lunch/​dinner rushes):
Our wait time was minimal for a Saturday night (literally only 10 minutes), probably because we aim to come here with small groupings. While it is possible to seat a large party, waiting time could take an hour or more, especially since they can’t really move too many tables around. With that being said, I highly recommend you come here with a party small enough to fit at one table/​booth. Then, you’ll be happier with a shorter wait time.
Food:
My family and I usually order around the same things when we eat here. Appetizers we order range from the cheese/​spinach dip to onion rings. Entrees we order range from the vegetable plate to the grilled catfish or salmon. And we’ve tried all of the sides. Out of the many, many visits here, I can say that the food we’ve been served has been so consistent (you can check out my previous reviews as I still stand by them in describing the food). There were a couple times when the side of homemade black beans have been a little extra watery than normal or the grilled fish a little extra saltier than normal, but other than those two visits out of many, our meals have remained for the most part quite consistent.
Service:
Service here is awesome. Our most recent server, Clarence, was very attentive, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu and how certain foods would be seasoned. I had to make specific requests due to my diet needs, and he was very helpful in answering my questions. We appreciate the fact that he never disappeared for long periods of time and checked in with us periodically. He brought us extra refills, napkins, lemons, etc. and it didn’t take him a century to do it. So, thank you, Clarence, for helping to make our dinner go by seamless. It’s servers like you and Cheddar’s yummy consistent food that always bring my family and I back.

The server was extremely forgetful. Never brought refills

The Cajun pasta was cold/​warm
Did not return to check on use after we received the food.
A refill was brought by another server and it was the wrong drink
After receiving our check I told the server about my concerns of him not being accurate with items he brought to us, him not providing refills and the food being cold. He hunched his shoulders and asked us if we were ready to «cash out» I asked for a manager who appeared about 10 minutes later. Didn’t get his name but he was Caucasian and had a huge beard. He was not helpful at all and sarcastic and unconcerned. The only thing he did about our problem was take the ONE drink off the ticket.
I do not live in the Kansas City area. I live about 2 hours away and came to town to shop.

I came in for lunch around 130 on a Friday with an hour to eat and pay. I’ve been a cheddar’s fan since I’ve lived in Springfield and I must say that this location is a downright abomination. Expecting they would be busy with the mall and so many businesses near by I ordered a club sandwich and salad. I got my salad and yeah within 5mins which is pretty damn good, our server was pulling double duty and was honest and very helpful though it took another 40mins for them to put together a half of a club sandwich.
My friend ordered the tilapia, which was advertised as some of the freshest in town, it came out burnt so if they are getting fresh fish-​they sure don’t know how to cook it.
After bring my qualms to the manager, She seemed to pass the buck to anyone but herself, running a restaurant means taking fault for actions not trying to explain them away and blame your staff. They did cover the cost of the meal, after blaming the server. Offered me a new meal which got ruined sitting in my car because I don’t bring leftovers to meetings. Enjoy a Cheddars experience just not here! Unless 40min ticket times for fish and sandwiches are your thing.

Good food! Everything I have had at Cheddar’s so far has been delicious.
Went to dinner here on 7÷20÷15 and restaurant was well packed, so I anticipated a bit of wait time for my orders. Appetizers took over 20 minutes to come out. I was upset with the wait time, but as the heaping mountain of onion rings came out I quickly got over being upset. The manager came over and apologized for the wait time and told us she was taking the appetizers off the bill. Our orders arrived shortly after and was delicious.
I would have given a rating of four stars, but the delicious food and friendly staff makes for nothing less than five stars.

The food this time was adequate nothing to write home about. One server assigned to fifteen people something was bound to get missed.

I was really surprised by just how good the food was and how affordable it was. The Painkiller is a must have. I laughed that on their menu they say they limit 2 for each customer but after just one I floated out the door.

We were just here the other night again and had an absolutely wonderful server named Jordan. SUPER nice guy. They were busy, as usual, but Jordan took great care of us, checked on us often & never let our drinks get empty.
I accidentally posted my review for the Cheddar’s in Independence, I’ve never been to that one– so I’m pasting it here, which is the location I frequent:
My family goes here probably at least once every couple of months– it’s really good food at a great value. Every time the check comes we all think ‘that’s only as much as all this cost?!‘
The menu is basically ‘down home cooking’ but it’s fresher, not as greasy as that label would normally imply, and there’s more of an emphasis on healthier items than at some similar, family friendly restaurants.
The tilapia with fruit salsa is my husband’s favorite. The chicken pot pie is delicious and comforting, & my daughter loves their classic Monte Cristo sandwich. They have a great vegetable plate entrée that is a generously sized side salad plus your choice of 4 vegetables from a list of about 12. The list includes steamed broccoli, apple and raisin creamy slaw, a baked potato, beans & rice, among many others. You can go ultra healthy or not.
You can order a plate of 3 of their special honey glazed croissants (so yummy!), and 1 croissant also comes free with any salad.
They have an extensive cocktail menu, their cheese fries are dynamite, and if you still have room (the portions are fairly big– expect leftovers,) they have an incredible warm cookie dessert, served à la mode with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It feeds 3 people easily.
Cheddar’s is often busy, but for good reason. The wait is worth it.

I’ve been here once and that was enough for me. Got the Monte Christo and felt like crap pretty shortly thereafter. The food tastes like it is made of meh ingredients. It’s like really bad Applebee’s. And I don’t like Applebee’s! The service was slow, especially in coming to the table the first time to take drink orders. I had low expectations to begin with and it managed to not meet them.
I won’t be back.
