I am a very loyal Marriott customer, but I must say, this facility has gone downhill since it opened. I have family in Ottawa and so I stay here a few times a year, but I have some concerns. Now I must say, I use points almost EVERY time I stay here so not sure how that relates to the service I receive. The positive — the lobby area is clean and inviting. The rooms are usually quite clean. I have actually sat in the lobby for hours with family and ordered pizza and watched TV. It is a nice area. The negatives keep piling up with each visit. First of all, some of the staff is nice, but I seem to always run into people, at least once a trip, who are unwilling to help or act like its an inconvenience. Recently I asked if I could check-in early, was told I could, and then arrived to be very rudely that I absolutely could not and the hotel was booked solid. I asked when a room would be ready(as I had seen multiple people check out) and was told that I could come back at 3pm when check-in opened. I was overly frustrated as I came from two days of camping and needed a shower before I saw my family. Finally at lunch time there was a shift change and they were able to get me in a room. On the same stay, my sister arrived to check into her room with her husband and two year old(around 8pm). We had both booked rooms weeks in advance(and the hotel was now full and turning people away). My sister went to check-in to her room and they said that it appeared that they had empty rooms, but were not clean and the cleaning staff had gone home for the night. We were confused because if the hotel was full, why were there empty, uncleaned rooms. It would make more sense to me to have those rooms cleaned and ready to make money off of. They finally found my sister a clean and empty room, but we had waited about 15 – 20 minutes. These are just some of many snafus we have encountered at this hotel. The facility is great but many of the customer service staff seem to be very rigid and not accommodating to the hotel guests.

The Fairfield Inn is about 10 – 15 minutes away from Starved Rock State Park. I couldn’t have had a better stay here. The room is exceptionally clean, well stocked(Pantene hair products and nice lotion, fridge, flat screen TV, HBO) and even fashionably decorated! There is a pool and hot tub which were very relaxing. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I have awful insomnia, but slept well and when I did wake up earlier than I should have, I discovered they have free internet for guests to use. Big bonus! Breakfast is offered from 7:00 — 10:00am. My room was only $ 104, so I was happy with the price as well. For what you get, it’s a great price. They also have a «Market» in the lobby and you can buy chips, soup, frozen foods, etc… It’s a very nice, clean, welcoming hotel.
