Cash or check only. Quaint little coffee shop with a few table and chairs to sit and enjoy some breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and coffee(including espresso specialty drinks). I came to try the sugar cookies. About 30 years ago when I was a child, my family would stop by after church for a Young’s smiley face cookie(Young’s Bakery was in this location). I can’t remember for sure how the cookie tasted, but Café on Main’s cookie was pretty darn good. Although it was sweet, it wasn’t as sweet as Steve’s Bakery frosted sugar cookies(located on Norris Drive). I prefer Café on Main’s less sweet cookie. The frosting was creamy and sweet, and the cookie was tender yet slightly crumbly(a great texture). They are $ 1/each. I think Young’s cookies had a harder frosting with hardened eyes and a smile. I like this little shop. From what I’ve read online, it’s popular for its breakfast and lunches. I found parking easily on the street.

I can only review my specialty coffee beverage & service; I have no experience with any of the food or pastries. I found the service terrible! We were not greeted as we came in, rather we were glared at. We did not feel welcomed. After several minutes we were finally asked for our drink order. I tried to make small talk & offer compliments on the décor, as well as impress upon her that we try to support local business. I did get a small smile from this; but she is not all that friendly. Overall — we felt were not welcomed, perhaps this is normal for this establishment… I did not care for my specialty drink… thought it tasted terrible. Stick with plain coffee! The place is decorated nice. And the food menu sounds great. But, I have no experience with that here. I honestly will not back should I be back in the area.

Many residents of Ottawa remember the much loved Young’s bakery; famous for their baked goods and«smiley-face» cookies. My sisters and I are grown and live out of state and a couple times a year my parents take the long drive to visit us. My mother thought it would be a great surprise to place an order at this local bakery of their version of smiley-face cookies since Young’s closed years ago. She thought this might be the next best thing to bring back some hometown memories during her visit. My mother called the Café on Main and placed her order with the owner a week before she was due to come visit us. That morning, she went to pick up the cookies; excited to see how they would live up to the cookies of our memory. She approached the counter and the manager simply stated that she had«forgotten» to place the order with the excuse that she had been sick/they were closed for a couple days/blah blah blah. No phone call to my mother notifying her that the order was unable to be fulfilled, no apology, no «let me try and make it right,» no ANYTHING… just shrugged her shoulders. My mother just walked out and was upset to say the least. I will give this«Café» a zero on customer service, I cannot comment on their food because we never had the chance to try it nor will we ever. We have already steered friends, neighbors, coworkers and other potential patrons clear of this place. This place will no doubt stay in business due to the limited bakery options in Ottawa, but we will continue to do our part of spreading the word.

More than just a small town Coffee Shop they serve breakfast and lunch to, for those of you on the Gluten free path they offer a small amount of pastries, so you knock down some sweets with out the guilt. The Café it self is a little on the industrial side when it comes to décor not really sure if that is intentional or not but it’s definitely unique.
