Let me preface this review by saying I always go right when they open so there is never a crowd. I haven’t had any problems with there being too many people at this location. If you go first thing in the morning you have the place to you and maybe a dozen other people at most. Staff has always been very friendly. The lockers are narrow so you may have trouble getting a large back to squeeze into them. Lots of machines, everything is clean, and they have a large multi-purpose room to do your own thing in. They have a large class list but I wish there were more early morning choices. There are a lot of afternoon and evening classes though. There are also swimming lessons and personal trainers you can pay extra for. While I haven’t used another YMCA before, this location is very nice.

This place gets progressively worse. If it not for the fact I have a free membership I would have left along time ago. Its insanely packed at peak times(early morning, lunch, and dinner). There just is not enough space for the number of memberships. Equipement is tight and noone follows any sort of gym etiquette. Its as if the Y is a mannerless dead zone. And the frozen movie music they play all the time has the opposite effect of motivating you to do more. I feel lile I am in a disney owned asylum and its activity time…

My husband and I recently joined here a few months ago and I currently go between 4&5 times a week. The staff is GREAT. Super friendly and always willing to help whenever they can. We take our 3 year old daughter and 5 month old son to the child development center. They watch them up to 2 hours a day as part of our monthly membership. They are trained child care providers, certified in CPR and great with our kids. Although the gym can get busy on certain days or times… I personally have never had to wait for a machine to come available. There are tons of classes you can take. They offer them starting in the morning until the late evening. They also have youth basketball, soccer and cheerleading. as well as swimming lessons. Since joining, my husband and i have become very active with them. Participating in lots of different areas as well as donations. We enrolled our daughter in cheerleading and plan on signing up both kids into swim lessons this summer.

I’ve been to most of the YMCAs In town and this location is a little different. The people that go to this YMCA seem to be a little friendlier and and willing to lend a hand if you need a spot or let you work in if it’s already being used. Let’s just say it’s easy to meet good people here and that’s rare now a days. As for the gym it’s self ! It’s not the biggest but they utilize the space well. For men and women they have everything you need to get buffed up or skinnied down. Lots of really good classes for people just starting out to middle of the road to I’m all in fitness junkies like me. all in all it’s a great place to be a part of !!

I usually workout at the Avalon Park Y because it is right next to my job and while it is an adorable facility with awesome new machines and a great staff, it is unfortunately small. Lately, I’ve been trying out the Blanchard Park Y on the weekends and I do like how big it is compared to the Avalon Y and the fact that they have a smoothie bar! It’s not nearly as sparkly new as the AP one but it’s nice not to have to wait forever for a machine to open up. The group aerobics room also has much more privacy but I wish they would have some late evening classes so I could make it after work. Driving back to Avalon for the evening classes just isn’t an option with the horrific traffic on Alafaya.

I give this Y five stars for the staff. The staff here is great! So friendly. I started coming to this Y for the tri club. I am a regular downtown and I did not care for the downtown tri insructor. The instructor here is great! Her name is Jacklynn. Shes an awesome motivatior and the whole tri group is so friendly. The Y is not very big and you may have to wait for certain pieces of equipment. The equipment is also older and needs to be more up to date like the downtown Y. The child development center is huge and the staff is great. The bathrooms are clean but old, probably the original bathrooms that were put in.
