$ 5.99 lunch special rice, plantains, curry or jerk chicken, bottle of water I tried both and loved both. I preferred the jerk chicken. I really loved it!!!

OMG, sooooo good! I have been lucky enough to be treated to this restaurant twice now and I have not been disappointed either time. The first time I had the stewed chicken, which wasn’t a bad choice but today I had the curry chicken and THAT was the way to go. With plantains, white rice and a fried dumpling I basically ignored my friends and tucked IN. One very strong suggestion is that you CHEWYOURFOOD… with intention. You want to avoid swallowing the chicken bones. The curry chicken is not spicy; it’s just a perfect blend of seasoning. The rice was cooked well. Only a moron botches plantains — that and the fried dumpling(YUM!) were almost like dessert. My friend always gets the curry goat(see what I did there? Get your goat!). Next time, I’m going for the curry shrimp. For about $ 8 w/a beverage, ToJ is an excellent place to curry flavor for lunch. See what I did there? LOL!

The curried chicken here is fantastic! I can’t believe I ate it all in one sitting. It was the perfect amount of food for $ 8. This place would’ve gotten more stars from me if the service was better. The employees just seemed so disorganized and frazzled. When I was ready to pay, the girl just passed my money down to another cashier and didn’t say anything to me. I just stood there confused. Waited about a minute or two for my cash, and just stood there waiting for my food. Other customers were just standing in front of the counter waiting for their food when employees should’ve told them to move out of the way. There was literally this wide lady standing in front of the counter the entire time and customers were just unsure where they should place there order. Wish I had known it would’ve been about 20 minutes. I would’ve ran down the street to take care of an errand. The bathrooms were also locked for some reason too. I wasn’t about to ask anybody to unlock it either. When it came to people receiving food, employees couldn’t even remember who ordered what. It was just a hot ass mess in my opinion. Call your order in.

The ackee and Saltfish and fried dumplings were amazing! The customer service was great which is unusual for a Jamaican restaurant.

This was my second visit to this restaurant, and I reduced my star rating to 2 stars. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, and it wasn’t authentic jerk chicken, they used tiny pieces of chicken, and a store bought jerk sauce, that poured over the chicken like a barbecue sauce. This jerk sauce was so bad it gave me heartburn for a day. I’m not sure how the food was so delicious my first time there, then so bad my second time, Sometimes businesses make changes to save money, but where you’re serving to Jamaicans who are looking for an authentic taste of back home, cheap fixes is shooting yourself in the foot. The good news, the place looks great, the deck looks almost complete, we’ll overlook the Panda bear pictures on some of the tables, most people know panda bears live in China. The bathroom was clean, and the staff was very friendly. I won’t be ordering the Jerk Chicken anymore. curry goat for me next time.

I went expecting some spicy jerk pork, instead I got jerk pork sirloin. It was not good to me. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing(oxtails) I was not impressed I actually ended up throwing my most of my food away not flavorful and greasy. And the service could be better I was reviewing the menu and the lady behind the cash registrar snapped at me to get my attention. That just rubbed me the wrong way.

Sometimes the food is good and sometimes you feel like you might get food poisoning. I do not feel comfortable with the fact that they leave cream based dressings on the unrefrigerated.

Never again! I love Jamaican food, but not this place! I ordered jerk chicken, and they gave me BBQ chicken that didnt taste anything like jerk! I also ordered coco bread and beef patties and they totally forgot to give them to me. I ordered over the phone for pick up and the girl was so rude, she made me stay on hold a while and then when she finally got back on the line she asked me to call back in 5 minutes. ??? So I thought they were really busy, when I pulled up to restaurant it was completely empty not one customer! Horrible experience!

I had the jerk chicken dinner there while on vacation in Orlando. The food was great! Great portions, great flavor, great bang for the buck. The meal was under $ 10, came with peas and rice, and a side(of my choosing) of plantains. There’s a sign inside that says your choice of 2 sides. I felt it was a little misleading. But I was still pleased with the portion size. The chicken was spicy, but not ridiculous. It was savory, smoky, and even a bit sweet. I’d gone to 2 other«Caribbean» places in central Orlando, this was the best. Hands down.

we stopped in here for breakfast one day — it was good I had ackee&codfish partner had calaloo came both came with plaintains, boiled or fried dumplings and bread I loved the akee&cod(partner didnt) partners calaloo was okay could have used more spices(just my preference) the boiled dumplings were odd think a piece of pasta about an inch thick boiled — not bad but not something I would order again the fried plaintains mmmmm I think pancakes and waffles have serious competion for my favorite breakfast starch — caramel-ly crispy/chewey mmmm

I really had high hopes for this place, but not being able to finish the food is lamentable. I ordered the stew peas which is my favorite Jamaican dish. When it arrived, it slightly resembled stew peas, but it was quite different-looking. The taste was horrible and some of the morsels of meat tasted slightly old or spoiled. Never again, and that’s a shame because the service was friendly enough.

They have a lunch special! Who doesn’t love a good lunch special? $ 4.99 can get you curried or jerk chicken lunch special with a drink Monday through Friday 12 pm to 4 pm. It comes with rice, beans, and your choice of side. Try the plantains you could never go wrong with plantains. You could never go wrong with a lunch special.

I decided to give it a shot… was just ok. It was a nice break from my usual lunch spots. I felt like the girl behind the counter hated me before I even ordered. They serve«Peas and Rice», not to be confused with«Beans and Rice.»

I found this little brightly colored fast food restaurant when driving down OBT one afternoon, It was very unlike any of the other dirty grey buildings along that strech of road. In fact it looked interesting enough so I decided why not give it a shot. Upon walking inside Taste of Jamaica its easy to see the island inspiration. Its completely yellow and green, The colors of the Jamaican flag and is as authentic as it gets. It had décor straight out of this Rastafarian paradise. The owners and employees were obviously natives of this island and they had a menu that showed it. I got the jerk chicken meal, it was a lunch special that came with a side and soda. And boy, the flavors were spot on. No ordinary fast food joint in town can compare to this little Jamaican experience. It was messy but perfect for getting the vibe you are one with the earth as these folks inspire a great feeling and taste of something outside of the normal Florida scene.
