After 30 years of not using skates, it was definitely worth the wait! A friend of mine threw a birthday party for her daughter on a Saturday night. This place gets packed with people of all ages between the hours of 7:00pm-10:30pm. Despite the crowds, it was not a rowdy environment, it was good ol’ fashioned fun with a DJ playing great music. When you arrive, you purchase your admission and rentals and you head to the skate rental booth. You can choose either 4 Wheel Skates or Rollerblades or bring your own. Just like the bowling alleys, you have to leave your shoes and walk around in skates or socks. Be careful if you haven’t worn skates in awhile, it can be hazardous to your health! They do offer training wheels which looks like a walker with three wheels(see pic). I had no shame in using it, it’s better to be safe than break a bone. The dancefloor aka roller-skating rink is spacious enough for you to roam. If you get in trouble, head towards the side hand rails. Towards 9:30pm, you have to dodge people so be aware of your surroundings. I found the Twilight skate session to be really cool especially with the glow in the dark Space theme. The Twilight session is short in duration, I’m assuming it’s because of the crowds. There are definitely people that are experts and it was enjoyable watching them dance on roller skates. In terms of food, it’s what you would expect, a pizza stand with snacks and refreshments. They also offer a small arcade and a gift shop where you will find candy, toys and roller skates. There was an Orange County Sheriff present and he walked around making sure everyone behaved. Astro Skate is located on Goldenrod next to the Save A Lot & Saigon Noodle Plaza.

This is a recently renovated skate center, that Small Fry and I will definitely be coming back to. Facility is super clean, recently updated/remodeled, new skates, friendly staff… and free coffee & WiFi for the parents. Small Fry didn’t have school on a Federal Holiday, so off to Astro Skate with some friends we went. I was super impressed with the whole set up. The staff were very organized with different activities for the kids; bounce house, black light hairspray, dance room, jump rope/hula hoops. There was always something going on besides the skating. It was a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon, for both of us! Note to parents: It is LOUD and cold in there, if you’re just sitting and not moving around. Bring some earplugs and a warm sweater, or plan on drinking a lot of the tasty free coffee!

The good: the rink has been renovated and is much improved from years ago. The bad: my main complaint is the lack of control over the rink. People going the wrong way, kids laying on the floor too long, people skating across the rink and not to mention people trying to skate and video tape themselves the whole time. All this is being unchecked. I know they can’t catch everyone but I’m watching has the security guy just skates on by like he doesn’t work there. Lack of control will keep me from going back. I’ve gone a few times at different times and it’s not getting any better. I’ll have to skate elsewhere.

Beware only use cash in 2015, we went there lived in cali and Vegas now Orlando this is the most backwards flash back in time place, when you pay with debit or credit card there’s a charge for 1.50 it says and girl at front days so, your bill will pop up 2.50, if u press wrong button it will charge another 2.50 for transaction, have reported to my bank. You can’t skate freely, music is not even top 40, it’s heavy metal honky tonk, they keep stopping for different games every few mins. There are no paper towels in restrooms, they look more like rest stops.

So much fun! Just had my daughter’s birthday party here and it was a blast! Everyone had a great time! This was probably the best party ever! Jon did a great job as a party host and kept everything rolling smoothly. Pizza is yummy! I love that they have the kids come into the Dj booth. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Don’t forget to tip your party host! We have also been here for regular skate. We never went to the old location but many of our guests commented that this place is soooooo much better than the old one. The kids always have a great time. Here are some things I hope to see in the future: 1. When party panda comes out have birthday kids come to center of the rink and/or have party panda visit with party guests. It’s not a party without a panda:) 2. Frequent visitor pass/season pass– I am sure we will be here many times a month. If a season pass isn’t an option maybe a frequent visitor pass? Buy 5 get 1 free? 3. Trainers supplied with parties. It would be nice to have 1 – 3 trainers supplied with your party booking. Most of our guests never skated before. To keep customers coming back teach them to skate ! Even if these suggestions aren’t taken I would book another party here in a second! Great work!

I decided to google the closest skating rink to our home and Astro Skate was recommended. They have undergone extensive renovations, but it is still a work in progress. They have a great selection of music and games for the kids. They offer skating lessons on the weekends, which, having a two year old will come in handy. We had fresh pizza(delicious!) and the soda portions were generous. All in all we had a great time and the prices are reasonable.
