Went to the Highland Stillhouse Pub tonight with my wife, the two boys and my parents for some live music and some good food and beer. It truly is a great bar and considering my boys can be there until 9 pm and actually enjoy the live music, I will say without a doubt that it is one of my favorite places to go. My youngest was dancing and clapping, My oldest was drinking a bottled root beer and everyone enjoyed the food. Some of the best times are had at the Highland Stillhouse Pub. Especially on live music Sundays.

My wife and I had never been to this place, and another couple met us there. We walked in at 9pm and it was packed and noisy. We had trouble finding a seat and a guy in a wheel chair had trouble getting inside because of the small walkways. The couple arrived around 8pm and ordered their food, and were just receiving it after waiting an hour when we walked in at 9pm. I dont drink and they didn’t have energy drinks so I had a coke. The bartender poured me a glass out of a 2 liter bottle, and it was flat. The tables were filthy and it was to loud to talk. They have an upstairs, but you have to squeeze by the staff, walk through their work area, and climb a steep stairs with a shaky handrail. The few tables that were up there were packed also. We had one drink and asked for our check. The bartender had put one of the other couples glass of wine on our tab, and we didn’t catch it until we got home. We won’t be going back.

A one-of-a-kind restaurant. Fantastic service, my waitress was very friendly and personable. Decent selection of brews. AMAZING food. Had the cottage pie, which was A+.

The food here is deep fried but delightful. I had the Scotch Egg and Linda’s mushrooms. The egg… oh my goodness. It wasn’t too sausage-ish and I appreciate that! I could taste the flavor of the egg and a little of the sausage. The mushrooms were lightly fried, crispy and delicious!!! The service was really friendly and welcoming. It’s small and cozy! A hidden gem

A very Brit-like pub. Funky and a wide selection of beers and whiskeys. Had a late lunch with my wife. She had a pastie and I had their fish-and-chips. Good thing I tried the half order — it came with four huge hunks of fish enough fries, er I mean chips, for two! It’s pretty cozy(and tiny) inside so try the outdoors during summers!

Love the vibe here. The Scottish eggs and English breakfast are awesome. The ambiance feels like a real European pub. The fish and chips are huge and delicious. The menu is good, but could have a few healthy options. We’d go a little more regularly if it did. They would also get a lot of business if they opened for breakfast at 8 or 9 on weekends.

Step through the threshold, across the pond, and straight into an old Scottish pub. Complete with narrow passageways, rowdy soccer fans, and perfected fish and chips. Wash it all down with a cold glass filled with your choice of anything from imported ciders to nitro beers. They have pretty much any whiskey that ever has or will be created. Service is highly attentive and the food was on point!

Great beer selection, cool interior and we got to sit on a leather couch and drink beer. Also have trivial pursuit cards at the table.

I’ve lived here in Gladstone since 2009 and have passed this place several times but never checked it out. I had friends who live in Beaverton tell me about this place! We went at night about 8pm and I had a Spanish coffee and my boyfriend had some really great beers… ending with McEwans… which he loved! The Spanish coffee was yummy, so I was disappointed when they ran out of alcohol for a 2nd. I’d go back again for that. They have 2 levels and we went upstairs and sat on the couch and talked and asked each other Trivial Pursuit questions. This place is authentic… and a great find for a Scottish pub. We had a great time… and we’ll definitely be back again. The customer service was great too. Very attentive, warm, and friendly. Highly recommend!

Came today for the USA soccer game. Although there is only one tv upstairs, it’s a cozy atmosphere that was fun to watch a game in. My wife and I shared the trilogy, which was a whiskey, Santa’s Sauce by Portland Ciders, and a Gorgonzola ravioli. All of the above was great. We also had a scotch egg… Our first, DELICIOUS! For the main course I had the Cottage Pie and my wife had a half order of fish and chips. Both of which were great and met our expectations! Guinness was only $ 4 draught on a Friday and the Belhaven Scottish Ale was great! We’ll be back again! Up the Chels! RCTID!

Phantom Scotch! This review is only concerned with Scotch, which is perhaps not entirely fair when applied to the restaurant as a whole. However, when one calls one’s establishment *The Highland Stillhouse*, schmucks like me take your extensive list of libations at face value, particularly when it seemed that we could in the past. Unfortunately, the list is terribly out-of-date. My birthday was a few days ago. Last night I cajoled three friends into joining me at the Highland Stillhouse in O.C. to sip some fine single-malts. We arranged for designated drivers and all that. It was to be a Scotch extravaganza. What followed was a bit shocking, given their reputation and extensive menu. I ordered something like six different Scotches from their menu, but they had none in stock. This back-and-forth took about an hour, and the waitress began to despair. I finally ordered some Old Parr off of the back of the menu, but they didn’t have that, either. At this point, I asked to speak with the owner or manager. Not to complain! The first time I went to the Highland Stillhouse, an enthusiastic Scotch monger(I’m pretty sure it was the owner) was delighted to share his extensive knowledge and help guide me in my selection of a new-to-me single-malt. I asked for the manager because I wanted to have someone that(a) knew what they had in stock, and(b) knew their Scotches well enough to help me match up my taste in Speysides with something on the shelf. The waitress apologized and said«of course, I’ll be right back.» A few minutes later she returned and said the manager was gone. I presume s/he left with all of the Scotch? Or rather, perhaps the manager said«#@$% the customer, I’m not going to help.» Confounded, I asked for water so I could have something while my friends finished their drinks. Nobody at our table was angry, abusive, or loud at any time. The waitress was always pleasant, and seemed as disappointed as we were. She handled a bad situation as well as could be expected. Apparently, the Highland Stillhouse’s Scotch menu could be reduced to about ten items, all of which are pretty vanilla in a Scotch fan’s own liquor cabinet. They have Macallan, Glenfiddich, and the like. Mortlach? Forget it. Tomatin? Nope. Macallan oddities(from the menu)? Nosir. Others I can’t remember off of the menu? Zero. Zilch. Nada. The place still has nice atmosphere. Beer and chips are probably fantastic. A Timbers game was on while we were sitting upstairs in the little nook with the fireplace. There were lots of friendly people having a good time. It’s cozy. I’d want to be there, except I can’t get what I came for and nobody is able or willing to help. I realize some bottles of Scotch cost a lot of money. I also realize that after years of operation, a restaurant must focus on its bread-and-butter business. For example, if you don’t sell any Tomatin(except to Scotch snobs like me) then you’d be crazy to spend $ 200 on a bottle that will take up space and require five years just to break even. Doing good business is nothing to be ashamed of. However, purposefully misrepresenting yourself to your customers is inexcusable. My advice to the owner, manager(if there is one), and staff: Get a sharpie. Cross out the things that you don’t have so you don’t waste your time or your customers’ time. This would take almost no time. Clearly, management has not allowed this to happen. It shows a profound lack of respect for staff and customers. And hey, the sharpie smell might waft off of the page and remind someone of the smell of a good Islay, and you could perhaps sell a few drams of your cheapest Laphroaig, if you actually stock anything so esoteric.

When a Scotsman tells you to go… you’d better go! So I was told by a Scottish customer of mine that this is the only place to go for a taste of his homeland, a drink of his homeland, and basically I kind of got the idea that this was his place to go for just about anything. Can’t say as I blame him! The Highland Stillhouse fires on all cylinders but you better go hungry and thirsty and prepare to stay awhile and soak it all in. If not for the atmosphere, for the flushed feeling after a few drinks! Sitting in a beautiful building atop the supreme lookout over the Willamette River in Oregon City, you are rewarded on nice days with a beautiful view on their deck, or a nice warm«Stick around Mate» feeling inside their dark but well decorated rooms. The food is outstanding. Skip your usual pub fare mindset and don’t go in thinking about a hummus plate and tater tot nachos there fella! This is Scottish and British fare through and through. Haggis, sausages, scotch eggs, pasties, fish and chips, and a few salads and sandwiches are on offer here. Everything is nicely done in traditional style, and you won’t find entrees with a lot of sides. Being veggie there weren’t a lot of options for me, but I didn’t expect as much either. The veggie pastie was my choice, and I was a happy man. Basically it’s a light and flaky crust surrounding a vat of veggies and gravy. Sort of a pot pie but so so so much better. Pastry was perfect. Light, but not so thin that you didn’t get a good piece of crust with each bite. Fries are very good here as well, and should be the case. Drinks are the real treat here. Great selection of beers, especially Scottish and British selections. The wall of whiskey they must have is enough to make your jaw drop and there just isn’t enough chances to try much. If you’ve heard of it, they have it. If you haven’t heard of it, they probably have that too. You could work your way through single malts here for a lifetime. What a treat… and we have it in Oregon City, not stuck up in some wanna be authentic pub in the Pearl District. There is a real feeling of friendliness here. Very nice owner that doesn’t hesitate to come around and say hello, and the service overall was very good. Value wise you couldn’t do better for a nice meal out and a few drinks. $ 20 a person will get you plenty. Get to the Stillhouse! Scottish recommended… Unilocal reviewer blown away!

After a day in the sun watching amazing feats of strength from strongmen at The Highland Games, you can’t just go anywhere. You have to come here to finish it off. We walked onto the really neat patio that overlooks the Willamette Falls. The servers saw our stamps and were instantly excited asking us how it was and what we saw. It felt like we’ve been coming here forever. Even though we didn’t carry any Portland stones, we were famished. We settled on ½ order of fish & chips, haggis balls, banger sliders, and a traditional beef pastie. We oohed and ahhed as the food came out. It looked so darn good. Why hadn’t we been here before? I feel like I’ve been missing out! The fish & chips were light and crispy. The haggis balls reminded me of the boudin balls we had in new Orleans. It basically tastes like a rich meaty smoky breaded and fried goodness. The banger sliders were adorable. Dipped in mustard, the little pretzel roll and sausage were awesome. The pastie was also super good. It came with coleslaw and had a nice flaky crust with hearty beef filling. The waitress said they had the biggest whisky menu in Portland. It all organized by country and region. Very intense! The Ardbeg on the side of the building and in the menu just reminded me of Parks and Recreation when Ron Swanson went on a journey to Scotland. I felt more manly just being there!

I absolutely adore this place. It’s a cozy, Scottish bar that has an excellent selection of beers and a phenomenal selection of scotch whiskeys. The word tavern seems to fit it perfectly. They have a downstairs restaurant area that’s dimly lit and quite inviting. You have to walk back, a little last the kitchen, to find steps leading up to some well decorated small rooms upstairs and the real bar. I can’t stress enough how good their scotch selection is. The kicker that really adds to the whole experience is the Scottish good. They have wonderful sausage dishes like Banger sliders and Bangers and Mash. Among other traditional dishes they have Scottish eggs and pasties and bridies. They also serve sandwiches(like one of the best Reubens I’ve ever had) and burgers, salads, and other common fare that is delicious. The staff was super nice but took quite a long time. I ordered a dram of scotch, and when that came out after 25 minutes I ordered a meal and a beer which came out about 35 minutes later. When she asked if I was ready to square up I ordered a pastie to go and settled the bill. After my pastie came out I had spent 2 hours and 15 minutes here. I haven’t tried any of the breakfast or sweets yet, but I definitely plan on it.

Say what you will about OC, this town has cole slaw down. The Still House offers more then crisp, competent slaw, however. My gluten free fish and chips were amazing; the fish was steaming hot and perfectly cooked. The half portion at $ 8.95(approximately) was just right; the full portion would certainly be enough to feed two people. The house wine was reasonable at $ 5 a glass; the dark draft beer smelled great and would have been a great pairing with the fish and chips. My husband said it was delicious and went well with his pastie and chips. He also liked the lightly dressed, no-sog cole slaw. The service was pleasant and efficient – don’t adjust the little oil lamp at your table, however. You’ll get called out in a nice-ish way. Or, if you have a defiance streak, go, adjust, readjust, and enjoy the fall out. That might be fun to watch. On a warmer night, we’ll be back to sit outside.

Love this place. Between the atmosphere, the staff, the food, and the very impressive Whiskey list, you can’t miss with this place. Now summertime is my favorite time to come here. The exterior is laden with patios, decks, overhangs, covered and uncovered seating. Being on the second floor, you also get a little view of the Willamette river and Willamette Falls. It makes for quite the scenic view. It’s also a great spot in the dead of winter, with a great, dark, old world feel in the upstairs and downstairs bars. In one room you can cozy up to a fire, or catch a live show in the downstairs bar. Either place you chose to sit, you’ll feel like you stepped into an authentic Scottish Pub. What really separates this place from the rest is the food. The beer and whiskey are hand tested and selected by the owner and the list is quite impressive, but somehow he also nailed it with the menu. Pasties, Scottish Eggs, Bangers, and the best Fish and Chips in town. These are just a few of the great menu items that Highland Stillhouse has to offer. If you end up going in for a visit, make sure to say hi to Mic. He’ll be glad to see you.

The food was great and they have a good beer and whiskey selection. The two stars is solely based on the awful service. I’m not worried about he food taking long, it’s a scratch kitchen, I appreciate that. What I cannot deal with is being at this place for a few beers and seeing our waitress 3 times in 3 hours. It’s honestly impressive how little we saw her. It’s really shame because the food and location is really great.

Love it here! Massive Scotch, Whiskey and Rum menu. Including Yamazaki a well loved Japanese Scotch. :). Almost always get the Fish and Chips. The large is great for sharing. Grab yourself a deep fried pretzel or the braveheart. A Zenner’s sausage wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Or if you feel brave get the Haggis Bites. :) Consistently great food, awesome outdoor seating area and just phenomenal ambience. A Gem in Oregon City!

Great beer, great service, really nice people! Live music and tons of good Scottish whiskey. I was there with a friend and when they wanted to close we asked them for another place to go and Mic, the owner, drove us all the way to the next bar, just to know that we are save — cute as hell!
