I go get take out here every Friday. They are so quick and the food tastes fresh every time. Quick service and good customer service. Prices are fair. Everything looks pretty clean. Best sushi in town!

We frequent sushi/hibachi restaurants so it was hard to give them even a 1 star. Our soup was cold, never received our salad, the edamame was far from fresh, it was a brownish green color! The noodles were cold, chicken was very tough and sushi was falling apart and did not taste fresh at all!!! Wait staff was very slow and/or lazy. I never once had my drink refilled despite the fact that it sat empty on the table for more than half I our visit. Would not recommend anyone spend money here. For awful food our tab was $ 65.00 and that was without any alcohol.

Love, love, love that I can find good food and quiet atmosphere in Orange. It is perfectly located between work and the house. The food is tasty and the price is perfect. Top 3 for Orange, Texas. As far as the staff, some days they are great and some days they are not to be bothered with.

Was visiting from out of town and had a craving for sushi. After reading the Unilocal reviews I was a bit hesitant but was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was good quality and came in very large portions. My son had the teriyaki chicken and he licked his plate clean. The hostess was terrible she never greeted us and was on her phone the whole time. Our waiter however was delightful and the food more than made up for any of the hostesses sorry comings. Don’t listen to the reviews, try this place for yourself. A bit pricey but the portions more than make up for it.

This is my fourth and last review of this crappy restaurant. In my first review I had nothing but accolades about the place. I liked the food and the service. They were new in town and I thought they were really trying to set the bar high. I frequented the place until they served me imitation tuna which was nothing more than cheap fish with a pink dye on it. When one of the fish pieces fell off the rice I noticed my rice was pink. I raised a lot of commotion on that one as I was paying premium prices for what I thought was real tuna. Up until then I never suspected a sushi restaurant would ever do something like that. I got the manager over to my table and he assured me it was only a mistake when they ordered the correct product and actually received the imitation«tuna.»(in hindsight I should have been suspicious that they actually served it) I dined there several more times after being begged by a member of their wait staff and changed my bad review back to a good review. About the 4th time they did it again and put the cheap fish on my plate. So I went from great review to bad review to good review and now stay away from this place like the plague unless you like paying confiscatory prices for mushy trash fish dyed a pretty pink. What a scam!

Being from the Orange area it is really convenient to have a decent sushi bar just minutes away… The food is good, the service is steady, and the waitstaff is incredibrarr… also the precise location of the restaurant is in a shopping center that is known for failed businesses and Kotoyama has been there for a few years still going strong… what you know about justifying my review haaaahhhh?

Kotoyama was a great idea for the Orange area but unfortunately the execution wasn’t as great. It does offer average quality food and the Sushi is usually well done but the wait staff are well below par. Add that to the fact that the entire restaurant feels a bit cramped and the prices are that of some of the much more nice Sushi bars in BMT and you no longer have a recipe for success. Though I hope in the future I can raise the rating by them raising expectations of their wait staff.

For some reason, this place has three Unilocal listings. One has no review. One has a 1-star rant, and one has a 5-star lovefest. I was wondering where to add my review. It falls somewhere in between the other two. I’ve decided that the only answer is to post it in each listing. If you find that wrong, please forgive me. Or bite me. Your choice, really. Having recently made a second visit to Kotoyama, my opinion of the place has changed hugely in the positive direction. My first experience was not worthy of any stars at all. That was entirely due to the incompetence of the waitstaff and the indifference of someone claiming to be management. Needless to say, it took a little prodding from friends to get me back there almost a year later. I have to say that I’m happy they did. The service was better this time. We actually got the food we ordered — not some dipstick of a waiter telling us we didn’t order any sushi and then bringing the check with the item scratched out. We, my wife and I, are not really sushi people. We enjoy it on occasion, but we don’t know a lot about it. This trip, we had a couple with us who did know sushi. Their knowledge helped guide us and the experience was enjoyable. The food was all good, from the sushi to the tempura to the entrees. If you go, don’t expect a fancy atmosphere. Do expect to drop a few dollars, as they aren’t cheap.

One usually experiences bad service every now and then while gobbling up food at various joints around town. However, the occasional bad service can be tolerated when the place is packed and the waiters are being worked to death. Mistaken happen, but good restaurants work quickly to fix them. Kotoyama is not that restaurant. In fact, it is a restaurant that serves pricey pre-cooked food that has been ill-prepared. Upon entering, we were greeted by our waiter. We placed our order for an appetizer. I was delighted how promptly it was brought to our table, sadly this was the only delight to be had at Kotoyama. It was soon made apparent how the Sauté Mushrooms made to our table in such a short time. We started our dinner out with a dish that had been sitting in the refrigerator for hours and had only been slightly heated. We were then treated to a finely cooked Chicken Teriyaki. Which was also cold and not even properly heated. The major problems did not arise until I started eating and discovered pieces of shrimp in a meal that was supposed to be prepared without shrimp. Being allergic to shrimp, I called the waiter and inquired about the dish. The waiter was very apologetic, however the owner firmly stepped in and started calming that the shrimp has been listed in the menu. Upon closer inspection of the menu, there was no shrimp listed. I asked for the dish to be replaced however the owner declined. I could tell that the waiter was very uncomfortable with the situation and this was not entirely her fault however she did not to help the situation. The owner continued to be argumentative and we realized that this was no avenue.
