My family recently hired Armstrong Relocation, an affiliate of United Van Lines, to move our belongings from Tennessee to New York at a cost exceeding $ 10,000. It took 2 days to pack and load the truck. On day two, my husband noticed that one of the workers seemed careless in the way he was taking the furniture downstairs. A short time later, while the workers were upstairs, there was a loud thud and my husband ran upstairs to find that same worker passed out drunk on the floor. Armstrong was notified and the worker was terminated. While looking for a replacement, my husband, a cancer patient, and son took over and assisted the remaining worker for several hours. I contacted the company the following day to inquire about financial consideration and was told that we would be discounted $ 100 for our«inconvenience». I protested and also pointed out that we were being charged for two workers during the time my husband and son were working. The outcome was that we were given a 1% discount, not nearly enough. In addition, when I inquired how much storage space would be needed, I was assured by an inspector sent by the company that 10′ x 30′ would be more than adequate & so that’s what I rented. As it turns out, halfway through unloading the truck we discovered I had to get an additional 10′ x 15′ unit. Of course there’s room for error but that’s a pretty large(50%) and expensive miscalculation. On the day that the truck arrived in New York, I was told I had to be there and they would arrive between 8 and 10 A.M. They arrived at 1:45 P.M. While moving things into storage, one of my best pieces came off the truck intact, only to fall off the dolly on the way to the unit. I currently have a claim in for that piece as well as a curio with shattered glass. I have been trying to talk with customer service to explain the situation and to request a partial refund due to the complaints listed above and they have been completely uncooperative and rude. This company is a true disgrace on every level, from pricing to the actual moving to customer service. All told, it was a nightmarish experience and I will never use this company again. Let this review be a warning!
