Service and atmosphere great! Pan fried perch and fries not bad. The totally chill porch makes up for any short coming of the food.

My daughter took me here for Mother’s Day. We’ve been here several times before and the food is always really good and today was no exception. They were busy but the service was tremendously slow. We have never had to wait that long for our food. The kitchen must have been short staffed. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. We were not in a hurry but wow! I had the catfish tacos and OMG were they ever good! I will sure order them again.

Love the food and love the atmosphere! Don’t let the full parking lot scare you away. We’ve never had to wait longer than 30 minutes for a table.

Great spot tucked away right on the Mississippi River with exceptional views! Highly recommend the drive. Excellent food, usually a bit busy but worth the wait.

First visit and enjoyed it very much. Met some long time friends who coincidentally visit Red Pines often, as it’s one of their favorites. Old Fashioneds and Bloody Mary’s were served up and I’d highly recommend trying one of their delicious Bloody Marys, served Wisconsin style with a beer chaser. Entrees at the table included the Walleyed Pike — rave reviews from the two that had it. I had the lake perch(deep fried with a light, taste enhancing batter) — WOW — what a plate full and some of the tastiest I’ve enjoyed. A dinner of smoked catfish was also enjoyed. Cheyenne was our server — she was attentive and prompt — contributing to our fun experience and first visit to the Red Pines Bar & Grill. If you are visiting LaCrosse, Onalaska, or Holman and find yourself in the Brice Prairie area and want a scenic location, a fun atmosphere, and delicious food — visit Red Pines, I know you’ll enjoy your visit — we did!

Good food and a friendly atmosphere for couples or families. $ 5.50 for an average Bloody Mary with a little to much celery salt is kinda high. Overall a great experience. An outside semi enclosed dining area probably would have been been enjoyable had it not been winter but there was plenty of tables inside where we stayed.

We were there last night, not busy at all. Took 45 min to get our food, and 3 of us had salads. Has a cup of soup and it was luke warm. Didn’t know there were carrots in a taco salad, but there was last night. have eaten here before and never been this disappointed.

i grew up on the east side of Wisconsin where the fish is fresh and terrific. this place, Red Pines has the best pearch dinner i have had in this part of the state. In a habit of getting it almost always now. The pizza is great as is the sandwiches too. service has always been good and oh beer is cold and selection solid. Cant go wrong here!

Great spot for sure first visit in 20+ yrs brought back memories of college days visits to Red Sails but new building blows old away! Restaurant and bar are great and service was really good and one better walleye sandwiches had. Love the curds and they give a generous portion. enjoy to go back and sit outside now that most bugs are getting frosted away.

Wonderful dinner! Saturday night ribs, pan-fried catfish, cheese curds and even chicken fingers were great. Nice beer and bar selection. Service was wonderful and personable. It’s busy(a tad noisy) but not overwhelming. We’ll be back.

Recently moved to the area and heard about this place out by the lake. For a late lunch, I had catfish tacos, homemade potato chips and dip-wow! Overall, very impressed by this place, only downfall was being bothered by flies, however, nonetheless they were very busy on a Saturday afternoon. Definitely worth checking out, I will be back! $ 12 lunch with a beer

The new owners have maintained the quality and good service at Red Pines. I am not sure how a previous reviewer could say the food was not up to par because nothing has changed! The previous owners have worked with the new owners to make a smooth transition. Red Pines remains a go-to place for a great meal and great people!

Red Pines went from a four + star down to a two star at best with the change in owners. The ribs were one of their signature items our now horrible. Even the beer battered chicken tenders which are normally really good were soggy and not edible. I was going advise the waitress since we couldn’t eat the food but she never came back. So, after 40 minutes I had to flag her down to pay the bill and just left. I later called to speak to a manager only to find out they were under new owners. He assured me the food stayed the same and I assure you it hasn’t.

A standard bar/restaurant menu but done with good ingredients. Among my group we ordered two perch dinners, the taco pizza, and the catfish sandwich. Clean plates all around! Sat out on the patio and played giant jenga. Nice way to end a day after a lackluster fishing trip on Lake Onalaska.

Nice place, good food and good atmosphere but the owners don’t know how to manage the front end. Hard to get dinner when all the tables are flooded with people only there to drink. Would have given more stars if this wasn’t the case!

Restaurant culture in Wisconsin is known for a handful of notable traditions — supper clubs, the Friday fish fry, beer, cheese curds, sweet cocktails, rural bar/restaurants — the list goes on… Red Pines takes a bit of all of these elements, mashes them together, and puts it in a small rustic themed lodge overlooking the shores of Lake Onalaska/Mississippi River. It’s not a fancy restaurant and an intimate setting but it offers one of the best gastro pub experiences in the area with some great traditional Wisconsin staples. I have been here at least 15 times in the past several years and although I haven’t tried everything, I don’t recall ever being disappointed. In my opinion, their pan fried perch dinner is hands down the best in the area; it’s not deep fried in heavy batter like the majority of fish fries I have been to. Staying with the fish theme, my favorite meal — The Wally, which is a fish sandwich with a fillet of pan fried walleye(or deep fried if you prefer) on it that is the size of your face. Roll up your sleeves and get extra napkins, you’ll need them. Other recommendations — the walleye cheeks are awesome, the cheese curds are some of the best in the area, and their pizza is surprisingly good — it’s not an over cheesed pot pie like you often find in places like this. Bottom line is that it is one of my family’s favorite places for informal dining. However, be warmed that this is not a large place and it can get packed, especially on Fridays. We tend to come early with the kids to avoid the rush. Earlier in the week is usually a age bet as well.

My wife and I had dinner at the Red Pines last night. My wife had her usual chicken strips — the best strips around. I had my favorite Blue Burger, bloody mary, and Alaskan beer! Don’t miss this jewel on Lake Onalaska.

The best Bar and Grill i have been in Onalaska. It is so pleasant and scenic. Not too crowded, just right sized. The Walleye is the best to have here. with an excellent collection of beers.

Best pan-fried walleye I’ve ever tasted. Ate lunch at Red Pines today with my husband and family. Also tried their cream of potato and sausage soup, which was delicious. Homemade chips and fantastic fries. Will definitely go back. Especially in the summer as the view of Lake Onalaska is fantastic.
