Zesto’s Shop

Seen this chain on ESPN virtually nonstop throughout the College World Series. Appeared as if almost daily their on air presenters were eating Zesto shakes.
Tried the location near TD Ameritrade Park, but no joy as they were closed due to running out of product??? Really.
Found this location via Google. The area looked bad. Seemed like a haven for drug and criminal activity as the patron in front of me was shirtless waving the flag of jailhouse tats to any friends that saw him at this Zesto.
I ordered a vanilla Waffle cone. The ice cream wasn’t even in my hand and was melting from the cone. The product was soupy, disappointing and a waste of the approximate $ 3 I’d spent.
One may ask, «how can you mess up ice cream?», it was overrun with an eggy taste, almost as if it were a hybrid ice cream/​frozen custard.
Zesto lesson learned: don’t believe the hype. Just because it’s on TV, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good.

Worst footlong hotdog EVER.
Right before visiting the zoo, we stopped at this little place to grab the local fare. The hamburgers are (apparently) very good. I elected to try the footlong hotdog and what I got was absolutely disgusting. I’m not asking that a hotdog stand has gourmet hotdogs, but this place really fell flat on its face with that hunk of crap and they should just take it off the menu.

Visited this old place last weekend while visiting the Zoo. We walked across the street from the Zoo hoping to get a better lunch at a better price then we could get inside the zoo.
There was a small line but the weather was great and we were not in a hurry so we got in line… The line moved slowly and when I put in my order for a Single cheeseburger for my daughter and Double for myself I was told they had one burger left and they would have to cook some more so it would be 15 to 20 minutes… Seemed strange on a beautiful Saturday that they would be more prepared… There were only two people working. on taking orders and serving the ice cream and one at the grill frying the burgers.
The burgers came in about 30 minutes… these bugers are way too big!.. Too much meat… My double must have been 6 inches tall…
The ice cream was great. we had a malts, shakes and Astros. but after downing the pounds of meat it was hard to eat the ice cream.
I fear the place is on the decline because of the closure of Rosenblatt Stadium… Hopefully they will keep things going… they could save some money by cutting down on the amount of meat they use in their burgers.

Was so bummed they were out of ice cream.

Great place for ice cream and the burgers weren’t bad ether really long line when the CWS is in town.

Before I tell you about Zesto’s, I have to inoculate myself against charges that I am some kind of East Coast snob hating on the Midwest. I liked the city of Omaha and will recite 10 fun facts that our gracious hosts shared with us about their fair city:
1. Omaha is the birthplace of Marlon Brando. (Now how cool is that?)
2. The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha receives 1.1 million visitors annually.
3. The zoo was voted by Reader’s Digest as the best zoo in America.
4. The annual College World Series is played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.
5. Henry Fonda grew up in Omaha. (No, I did not see Jane there.)
6. The stadium has dollar beer night on Thursdays.
7. Omaha’s Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is a 3,000′ footbridge across the Missouri.
8. Omaha is the birthplace of Fred and Adele Astaire.
9. Omaha is the home to five Fortune 500 companies.
10. Warren Buffett, the richest person in the world lives in Omaha.
I was visiting Omaha with colleagues and we’re driving past the stadium when one of our party expressed a desire for soft serve. A quick U-​turn, and we’re in the Zesto’s parking lot. Picture a Sixties-​era Dairy Queen knock-​off that is in desperate need of a face lift. Colleague describes what she wants to the soft serve artist behind the counter. She’s told, «What you want is an „Astro.“ It’s what a Blizzard aspires to be.»
Unfortunately, they were out of Heath Bar bits or Whopper pieces, and colleague got crushed Oreos. I tried to get a medium chocolate dip cone but had to settle for a small because they were low on chocolate sauce. My cone turned out to be a misshapen blob of ice cream albeit covered with a nice crust of frozen chocolate.
Only in Omaha?. There were four alcoholic beverages listed on a hand-​written white board: Beringer White Zinfandel, Budweiser Lite Beer, a combination of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and lemonade, and margaritas. Sorry, no tequila with my twistee please!

Zesto’s is an Omaha staple. Great stop when you are done with the zoo, or in the summer after a game or before some brews. The food is great, the ice cream is awesome. Nothing particularly special about either the food or the ice cream, but it’s all good. The place tends to get extremely busy during the College World Series.
I guess it’s also fair to note that they are open seasonally, so don’t plan on stopping by for a cone in December!

I love to go here. When I take the kids to the zoo, I always tell them if they are good, we can go to get ice cream. I always hope they are good, cause I need my ice cream fix!
