I have been a customer of Feinsod since moving to Old Greenwich in 1994. The manager Larry, had not cracked a smile and has been unpleasant ever since I can recall his presence. Today however, his attitude broke the camel’s back. I tried to exchange a faulty item purchased 2 weeks ago, but I did not have the receipt so he bluntly refused to help. I am enrolled in their«frequent shopper» program so they could have located my purchase, but that was too much trouble. I told him I was going to Home Depart and he coukd care less. So after 21 years, I am not setting foot in Feinsod’s again… I do not care howe close they are to my home. I prefer to drive 15 minutes just to avoid seeing the unpleasant look on Larry’s face.

I stop by this store almost every week. They have a great selection of everything you might need to take care of your home. Andrew, Larry and Peter are particularly helpful. We are lucky to have them in Old Greenwich.

Feinsod’s reminds why Home Depot and Lowes have taken over the hardware market: You’d expect a small local business to be both friendly and welcoming, but what I’ve always experienced is a rudeness and sheer disgust with the customer that is beyond shocking, from the ancient salespeople to the equally ossified cashier, these people take both their customers. and their lives. for granted. Get in your car and drive to a place of the living, for the living.

I don’t know what Steve D is talking about. Jay Feinsod is probably the most service-oriented merchant I’ve ever met. He will go out of his way to help you solve your problem, whether it’s finding the right nut to fit on a bolt or picking out the best Weber grill. He will get on the phone and call anywhere to find something you need that he doesn’t have and you are desperate to get in a day. He will get in his car and personally deliver that item to you. The store is your typical wonderful hardware heaven but neatly laid out and organized in an easy-to-find manner. Feinsod Hardware is the anchor for Old Greenwich, and you can ask any merchant along the street who does the most for Old Greenwich and its residents, and Jay will inevitably be the answer. So, Steve D. stop your slander and go in and apologize. Maybe you had an off day, but don’t take it out on the sweetest guy in town.

Jay Feinsod is a retail genius. Once the owner of a mini hardware empire with 3 stores he has consolidated his efforts to the store closest to his home. How does a local TrueValue store compete with big box stores like Home Depot and he does! While serving on the True Value Board he found an obscure provision in the Federal Farm Act that permitted Hardware stores to get free credit like farmers; the result being True Values prices are competitive with Home Depot! Also everything you need amazingly you can find on those organized shelves with ample help from knowledgeable sales clerks and good parking – a winning combination. Been shopping there for years

I gotta say — in my experience, they have been friendly and more importantly, helpful, which is exactly what I look for in a hardware store.

It is incredible that this store has everything! And prices compare favorably with Home Depot. How can that be? A very smart Merchant, Jay Feinsod getting Federal Farm Rates for businesss expansions and constant updating. But unlike Home Depot you won’t waste time looking for help.

That one guy’s nuts. This is a great hardware store. They have everything, they can find anything and they’re close.

I definitely like Feinsod’s, it usually has whatever I need, and the people who work out on the floor are(generally) nice and knowledgeable. Price is sometimes a little higher than big-box retailers, but understandable so, and not by too much. Biggest(slight) issue is their hours. I frequently find projects to work on on Sunday afternoons, and if you’re not in there by 2:55pm, you’re outta luck. Same thing weekdays at 5:25pm. They are very strict about their hours, as another person has commented. But I understand it’s a family retail business, and as such, they get to pick the hours. They probably have family stuff they’d rather do early evenings and Sunday afternoons than ring up another $ 100 or so of hardware, and I can understand that. If/when they’re open, I find Feinsod’s to be a more pleasant experience than big box retailers. Taking one star off for the short hours but overall, thumbs up.

We walked in to a completely restructured and very-well-organized hardware store and were greeted by a fellow who appeared to be the owner. We weren’t very familiar with hardware stores, but the owner proceeded to show us everything we needed. He was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were able to get in and out very quickly.

Will no longer support this local business as they don’t honor posted closing times — even when you are standing at the door with other customers. I guess they make enough money to turn away local business — with their higher prices. I always try to support local businesses and their higher prices points, but when they shut you out — they are telling you they don’t need your business. Having spent thousand of dollars over the last year with Feinsod(between Port Chester and OG stores), I just expect more. They can thank the older woman who works the counter(OG) for the loss of business. Home Depot from now on.
