One of my favorite places to eat, period. Healthy, mindful, organic vegan food and just as important, it tastes great. This is my go-to referral for anyone in in Ojai and it’s not your daddy’s vegan restaurant. Hip, fun, forward thinking, great menu. Free lemon water, real silverware –nice touches. Signage is a bit obscure –One word, «Vegan» on the outside wall and a wooden fence near the street. Shaded area outside is where I like to eat. They also do takeout. I’ve never had a bad meal there.

Super friendly staff! Even after my girlfriend accidentally knocked over a glass hot sauce bottle during lunch hour, the staff genuinely seemed not stressed about it and cleaned it up and told us not to worry about it at all :) and the food was fantastic! Had a «reuben» sandwich which was the best vegan sandwich ive ever had! Its not a very fancy setting, its kinda dive-y, but that adds to the special vibe of the place. Even non vegans can definitely find something to enjoy on the diverse menu :)

This place is a gem. I am very happy I found it on Unilocal. I was researching places to eat for dinner and Hip Vegan popped up. I am a carnivore but my wife avoids meat. After seeing all of the good reviews, I made a note in my calendar to stop here for lunch and am very happy I did. We each got a wrap. I got the Indo and she got the spring roll. They were both excellent. I generally avoid vegan/vegetarian places because I often feel the food lacks flavor. That is not the case here. Each wrap came with a bowl of amazing soup. The soup of the day was dhal and it was totally flavorful. It was a good-sized bowl and would have been enough for my wife. The wraps were both very flavorful. I was totally surprised. They also have a great beer selection. I went here because I thought my wife would like it, she actually loved it, and ended up being a huge fan myself. We will be back!

This place is pretty cool and the prices are fair for Ojai. Pro Tip: Get the fresh squeezed juice(you pick your own fruits and veggies!). Great price for what you get!

I am INLOVE, good food, good prices, great service. Everything that our party of 6 ordered at 7pm on Saturday(new weekend hours!!) was amazing. I had the Hip wrap, added caramelized onions and a side of gauc. Amazing! My husband ordered Ray’s Ruben, he is a meat eater and he loved it! My 14 year old son enjoyed the Spring Rolls even, and especially the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake for desert. And my baby even ate her quesadilla. A restaurant that the entire mixed diet family can eat at AND it’s excellent. Hip Vegan for life!

I was SUPER stoked to come to the Hip Vegan to try their date shake. My husband was sick and ordered a green juice(he thought it was okay) and I was going to order their date shake. Unfortunately after ordering I was told they don’t have bananas in stock and sometimes they just can’t make the date shake… uhhh…ok? Why not just buy enough bananas to make sure you don’t run out? Really strange to me. I’d probably go back to give them another chance if I were in the area. I feel like I didn’t get to give their food a real chance, but I didn’t get a great first impression.

There’s no obvious sign out front, you just see a small gate to their outdoor patio seating. Continue walking through to the small building in the back. Tasty fresh and heathy vegan restaurant. Closes early!!! I believe at 5pm. They have outdoor patio seating. You order at the counter and you seat yourself. They have salads, rolls, soups, burritos, burgers, shakes, etc I got the Indo wrap and it comes with a side of soup or salad — I chose soup. It was very tasty and hearty. The wrap has a light peanuty sauce. I added avocado to the wrap and I recommend doing that. The side of soup was also tasty and filling. Definitely will be back to try more items on the menu. There’s plenty of parking behind the restaurant.

Fantastic food. Nice, low key spot with good energy. I walked in on a Saturday for lunch so there was a substantial line, but it went pretty quick and gave me time to review the menu. Ordered the special mushroom tempeh burger and asked for collared greens instead of whole wheat bun. It came with chips and salad on the side. I also had their iced coffee with coconut cream. Overall, great food and fantastic service. I’m only giving them 4 stars as they’re a tad expensive for what you get, relatively expensive and had a difficult time finding parking.

This is probably the best vegan restaurant I have visited to date! So good, that I decided to order two meals before they closed for the day. The service was great. Nothing over the top but all the staff were nice, courteous and respectful. Definitely no problems there. The first item I had was the ‘3 Scoops Salad’. One of the tastiest salads ever! The hummus they make is completely different from what you would expect but it was so flavorful and it really kicked up the awesomeness level of the salad. The seed pâté and almond pâté were a very nice and welcome addition to the salad and complemented the hummus very well. Altogether, one of the most flavorful salads ever. The second item I had was ‘Ray’s Reuben’. The quality of the bread was top notch. From the first bite, the combination of the bread, grilled seitan, and kraut was amazing. Super tasty! If you are in Ojai, definitely stop by!

This place is a great gem in Ojai. I was traveling with my dog, so I was thrilled that the only vegan joint in town was also incredibly dog-friendly. There are lots of seating options outside and we were able to make ourselves comfortable. A kind server brought my pup a water bowl, which made me smile. These guys are really nice. I was feeling indulgent, so I opted for the black bean quesadilla, while my husband went with the burrito. We both loved our food! I was bummed they weren’t serving their famous date shake, but they made up for it by having Einstok white ale(my favorite!), which paired nicely with the quesadilla. I can’t put my finger on what cheese they use exactly(I don’t think it was Daiya… maybe Follow Your Heart?) but it was perfectly melty and I’m sure it’d satisfy even the biggest cheese-a-holic. My husband is picky and was wary of this place, but he ate every bite of his burrito. I’d absolutely return next time I’m in Ojai! Their menu is simple but diverse enough to win over all kinds of people, and I can’t wait to try that date shake.

I am not vegan, but Hip is definitely one of my top favorite restaurants in ojai for lunch.(since they close at 5:00) They make their own soup each day and it’s always delicious. The south indian dal soup is amazing with lentil and a curry spicy flavor. I chose the spinach and cheez quesadilla which had a sauce that paired perfectly. My quesadilla was amazingly melty and delicious. The hummus plate is always a great choice with kalamata olives, cucumber and tomato! And their poppyseed dressing for the salads is my favorite :) If you’d rather have a roll, I recommend their spring roll with the peanut thai dressing sauce! The service is always spectacular/cashier always does a great job. Very nice outside patio with shade, perfect if you want to bring your pup!!!

Our family was staying at the KOA in Santa Paula and were in Ojai for the day. We are not vegans but we do enjoy the creativity involved with vegan cuisine and I always like visiting local places when I can. We ordered the three scoop salad, hummus platter, vegetable soup, spring rolls and avocado toast. All of the food was very fresh and well made. The kids enjoyed the hummus platter and avocado toast. It was a really nice day so we sat outside on one of the picnic benches. Service was good and took a realistic amount of time given the amount of preparation involved. The staff is cordial. I just remembered I also got a chocolate date shake and was disappointed in the flavor. It tasted more like banana than dates.

In town for a wedding. Found this gem via Unilocal.Adorable place with a lovely garden amidst succulents. Husband and I(both vegan) strolled in 30 minutes before closing and didn’t feel rushed at all. Had a large Barbara’s Salad with tahini poppy seed dressing and a vanilla date shake. The salad was the size of my head. Ginormous even, with a liberal use of avocado. This is why I love California. The ingredients were simple and fresh– grated carrots and beets, marinated collards, spring greens, avocado and quinoa. The tahini dressing was to die for and made the salad spectacular. Sweet and savory at the same time. The hubs had the Spring Rolls, raw veggie packed rice wraps with marinated tofu and served with a salty(in a good way) «Vietnamese Dip». Oatmeal chocolate chip cookie for dessert — totally insane, crunchy carmelized crust but still chewy and soft. This place is a healthy vegan’s wet dream. We’ll definitely be back!

Was wandering around the area and thanks to Unilocal found this place!.. and very much enjoyed my lunch here! Perfect little spot, good vibes, good people and good food! Small little spot with some indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating in the sunshine(and shade). Ray’s Rueben and the Avocado sandwich were both delicious!
